Dennis O'Donnell MIA Status Has KPIX Co-Workers "Freaked Out"; Sports Anchor Now Three Months Into LOA

A GOOD MANY people at 855 Battery--the home of KPIX--are "freaked out" over the continued MIA Dennis O'Donnell. The PIX sports anchor has been absent from the desk well over three months and his co-workers at Channel 5 are exhibiting anxiety attacks over his status. The panic attacks that are pervasive at PIX had one STAR ANCHOR so frantic, they had to be consoled by a fellow staffer.

O'Donnell is believed to be home in his Danville estate dealing with a mysterious, apparently serious health issue. The malady is concerning enough that O'Donnell has taken a LOA (leave) --only senior HR people at PIX know the specifics; of course they're not talking, not only publicaly, but they aren't saying a word privately either. A senior staffer at PIX told me the subject matter is so secret and guarded they have NO IDEA what's going on. The individual is usually chock full of information. Not now.

O'Donnell's absence has drawn ZERO coverage on the Bay Area media scene--not an iota of a story much less a mention. The local "whatever" feeling about O'Donnell was the deal behind the scenes at PIX has now seemed to to turn. Then again, his (DOD) weekend/fill-in anchor bud, Vern Glenn, has no idea on his status. Glenn told this blogger in August that O'Donnell "was on vacation." Righttt.

I Called a few Bay Area sports anchors; they have not heard a word or even speculation.

  1. “On vacation.”
These people come up with lamest excuses.

  2. Sometimes people get really sick, even die. They are not required to discuss same.

I look forward to Martha Ross over at the Mercury News being "first on the scene" with a story about this now that you've continuously mentioned it.

  5. Maybe its time for Gary Radnich to be the "bird dog" on the DOD story and fill us all in.

  6. People come and go in the news business all the time. I don't think anyone at PIX is that concerned. People you work with are not your "friends"....they just work with you. I wish Dennis good luck.

And all the pretend big dog newspapers will steal from homeboy Rich again when Dennis turns up in the Tenderloin. And everyone else be like “wait wasn’t he just on channel 5?” 415 fo life! Keep it up Rich

  9. Hang outside of his Danville home. Personal addresses are easy to come by if you know where to look. Bird dog him to the grocery store and ask him what's up.

  10. I think this is really distasteful. If it's the worst scenario, this is downright vulture-like.

  12. It's common for KPIX 5 on-air staff to go missing with no explanation

  13. Channel 5 never talked about Veronica de la Cruz, either.

  14. As I mentioned before, I think Dennis O'Donnell probably retired and he might not have wanted anybody to know. He seems like he could be kind of a low key guy, even though yeah, this is bizarre. Hopefully he's ok.
