Rosemary Orozco 'Issues' at KTVU

NOT READY FOR PRIME TIME--The OROZCO DILEMMA

I'VE always wondered aloud (and privately) why KTVU weather guesser, Rosemary Orozco, was left behind the various gigs in prime time that have opened up or are about to open up. Orozco, curiously, has been passed up. Why? She has obvious appeal. She certainly has screen presence. She has a very decent delivery. She has a respectable knowledge about weather and makes for a pleasant, crisp and inviting on-air persona. That's the obvious.

The uncomfortable truth: Orozco isn't going to get the Bill Martin weeknight gig (when Martin is allowed to retire anytime soon); she will not be taking Steve Paulson's place on "MO2"; she's pretty much destined for the weekend and occasional fill-in on other time slots. Truth is, there are several factors keeping Orozco from graduating to a more featured slot. She has "issues" at the office. I've been told by multiple KTVU sources that she (Rosemary) has had numerous worker flare-ups at the station. She has the reputation of being difficult to work with. One person at Fox2 was so annoyed at her the person confronted her and told it to her face.

KTVU continues to pass her over and we now have reasons why.

  1. In her flirty poses and somewhat tacky outfits, Rosemary strikes me as that mom of a teenage kid who wants said kid's friends to think she's still hot. Or, as you might put it, Rich, a cosmetics clerk at a Nordstroms in Fresno.

  2. When she gets loud does she sound like Sofia Vergara on Modern Family when she gets loud on the show?

    1. You know Sofia used to be a tv host before she became an actress. I wonder if she has been called a "lanky beaner" too?

  3. I'll happily volunteer to be that teenage friend. Any chance she has a daughter named Stacy? If that is her goal, mission accomplished.

  4. I think the bigger issue is that she cannot ad-lib well. That can be a problem in live television when technical issues occur. KTVU management knows that and don't want to take a chance.

  5. If she's as much trouble as Rich says she is why does KTVU keep her around then when they have so many weather anchors there? Christina Loren was cut loose from KNTV for less friction.

OTOH, KTVU hasn't had a solid regular consistent on air rotation in years. Every week it's different with some on air talent showing up somewhere that isn't their "regular gig".

  6. Rosemary is VERY easy to work with and literally never has a cross word for anyone.

  7. Were I voting on the Bay Area's best weather-lady, the one I'd prefer to watch, I'd choose the one on Channel 4. Sorry, forget her name. Besides being attractive --- which she is in spades -- she has an excellent voice. And truly excellent diction. Very easy to understand what she is saying. Plus she quickly gets right to the point; neither a mumble-er or equivocator she. She does have one minor downside, an area for improvement: the dresses she wears are too busy. They clash w/the weather map behind her. She'd do better appearance-wise with wearing a no-pattern single or at most two color dress. But that's just quibbling.

  8. Posemary might be better as a bigger fish in a smaller pond. Like maybe back in Sacramento. I have a friend who worked with her at KEYT in Santa Barbara and said she was nice a a bit of a "cold fish' (her words). She is pleasant enough, but is restrained and doesn't have that outgoing type of personality that makes for good tv.

I don't know, but when I sometimes watch her gives the weather, I get a feeling that she lacks some confidence. This is not the same person I watched occasionally in Santa Barbara. Maybe she is intimated or over-her-head in a major market.

  9. Rich, this is off topic but IS KTVU related. Just a few minutes ago, they ran a "My Pillow" with your 2nd most famous seditionist, Mike Lindell. Is KTVU in such trouble finantially that they are open to having a business relationship? As a FOX 'O+O'station maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Your thoughts...

  12. The Firm being The Firm, with Rosemary Orozco no longer an efficient successor option, the time stall regard Kyla Grogan must stop. Let's move on from the ever-worsening Bill Martin.

  13. Good heavens send her over to KPIX where competent help is desperately needed, on Saturday 8/14 at 7:25 PM on CBSN Bay Area (KPIX streaming) the weather forecaster predicted a foot of snow on Donner Summit following today's rain in the Bay Area. In the middle of a dry summer heat wave.

Anything or anybody is better than this.

  14. Sad to say that I’m not surprised. I saw Rosemary at Target in Alameda last year when I was shopping with my wife and two young daughters. My wife and I very politely said hello to her and that we are longtime fans who enjoy watching her on weekend mornings. Rosemary was so cold and rude. She couldn’t even muster up a smile, instead just saying ‘thanks’ without even looking at us as she turned around. We stopped watching ktvu on weekends after that.

    1. Similar experience here. I use to go to the same gym as Rose Mary and she had the same reputation at the gym. I saw her be rude to staff and other customers more than once and heard similar stories from others at the gym. She was also known for trying to get the attention of the young and ripped juiceheads at the gym.

    2. What a lovely person. Sounds like she’s right where she belongs: 7am on weekend mornings when nobody is watching while simultaneously working on her strange clothing line. Which by the way I showed to my wife, she literally laughed out loud. She thought it was a bad joke.

    3. All this talk about how hot Rosemary is yet all I can think of are the times she kept farting when she was working from home. “Daytime highs today, 76 in Concord [FART], 82 in Liver[BLAST]more, 81 in San[TOOT] Jose.”
Did anyone ever figure out why she kept farting? It happened off and on for a solid 2-3 weeks.

  15. The male weather persons are allowed to age gradually. Steve Paulson does not attempt to appear as a 25 year old heart throb. He wears age appropriate clothing, his hair went gray gradually and he is a healthy appearing senior. The women employees feel pressure to appear 25 years old despite being in their mid 50s. Some of the women have faces that appears tight and expressionless due to plastic surgery. It also seems strange that women are pressured to try to look like a young Dolly Parton. Some of the women parade themselves desperately to look younger and younger despite being in the golden years. It seems artificial and forced, as they prance around the set in stiletto heels .
