YEAH, LARRY KING WAS ADAMANT ABOUT "Being Yourself." Not faking or pretending to be someone else but being you, for better or worse. At least you're not attempting to be a fake or phony which is the ultimate sin, especially in the broadcast business.
There's plenty of people here (everywhere, really) that are nothing like they portray either behind an anchor desk or microphone. Sure, an ego is usually mandatory to make it into the biz but there's reasonable ego and unreasonable. There's a confident person and then there's a total blowhard. I've met some of the biggest jerks who thought they were gods and I told them to take a hike and get a hold of themselves.
You can fault Larry King about a lot of things but one great thing about him: he was very genuine and sincere. He was the same off the air as on, I know first hand. I kidded one time at breakfast that he was too honest and cool. And in that typical Brooklyn accent, he would mutter, "Rich, you want me to be a schmuck, I can accommodate you." I told Larry, not so fast. He made his point.
MY POINT: you can't manufacture sincerity. You're either real or fake or one helluva actor.
BREAKFAST MEDIA NOSH....
Yeah, that Ronn Owens endorsement of the GOP Georgia senators; how'd that work out? This may sound ludicrous but it wasn't the endorsement but the person behind the endorsement; a guy who's as fake as ever, talk about a real person who isn't real at all and has never taken a stand in his life...want proof? Ask Mickey Luckoff...Another problem with 95.7 FM's "The Game": when you tell everyone how great you are and you're not, there's a problem. The Game keeps trying to be relevant, for over a decade in fact, and yet no one is listening so the idea their great is beyond laughable...KOIT sells mellowness and has been for several years, I have no problem with that...89.9 FM, please, please, give a listen, easily the most sensational hidden gem on Bay Area radio!..Excuse me but does Julie Haener have a pulse? ..Christin Ayers is killing up in Seattle --Paul Deanno is freezing in Chicago at NBC but every two weeks, he feels much warmer.
