KRON NEW SLOGAN: The SF Bay Area Weather Channel --at least that's the natives at 900 Front have been joking about--viewers too.
But seriously, seems KRON has 400 million weather boards and instead of actual news, the woeful albatross has turned into the storm center even without any real storms to report on unless you count relatively benign rain events that are barely that and more mist.
I GUESS KRON could bill itself as the, seriously, "Bay Area #1 source for weather" but that seems kind of ridiculous even by KRON standards. Fact is, we don't have any real weather here anymore; at least not that would warrant 46 thousand weather updates. My goodness, even the Weather Channel doesn't do as much weather than KRON does; to be fair, KRON isn't alone, KTVU is right up there at the leaderboard in excess weather reports.
The KTVU morning show is the most ridiculous. I swear to god I see poor exhausted Steve Paulson every 3 minutes. And what's really funny is he's not on long enough at one time to actually get to tell you anything. Plus why does he do the whole show and the other anchors only do half of it each? That man must have to take a nap after that!
ReplyDeleteI assume that it is a cheap and easy way to get content for all the newscasts. It has become a running joke in our household. It's not STORMWATCH!!!!!...it's raining for cruing out loud.
ReplyDeleteThey do weather and many other gimmicks so that they don't have to employ writers, editors and fact-checkers. You'll see boring ten-minute-long interviews with officials—the same officials every day, being asked basically the same questions every day and answering the same way every day. Long "featurettes" about a struggling restaurant, or some idiot who plays the ukulele, or a dancing parrot. Or "press release journalism," where a medical center or some such sends their own B-roll and pre-fabbed questions and the "journalist" just asks them to some talking head on camera...often a talking head who used to work in news before they realized being a mouthpiece for a hospital or SamTrans is more lucrative and has better hours.
DeleteThis is what we call "news" today in America. If you want to know what's really happening, don't watch this caca. I'm not saying NewsMax and OAN are the places to go...in fact in the U.S. there's noplace to go anymore, really. Even the New York Times is just a sellout, a shadow of its former self. The best place to learn about what America is doing is overseas news. They're still making a half-assed effort to cover us.
I'm tired of the uninteresting, forced, three-way small talk right before the weather reports on so many local news broadcasts.

ReplyDelete- All the weather on the Kron? I don't believe it's because of weather. It might be because of "other reasons". Is there another dysfunctional smile coming to the morning? The photo that Rich shared two months ago still makes readers notice, and not for better. The ewwww level is above the roof.
Kyla Grogan is the one they put on for Bill now when he's off. Bill is fine but I really like Kyla. She just has her act together and there's no blah blah blah rambling like some others. I'd watch if she took over. If they bring in somebody new I'm probably going over to KGO to watch Sandyha who also does a really good job.

ReplyDeleteToo much Mabrisa Rodriguez. A breathless wall of words,and weird cadence, usually ending with 'You ARE going to see RAIN as you head out the DOOR for your(WHATEVER DAY IS TOMORROW)'.
