LIKE MANY OF YOU, I thought Pat Thurston was a one-trick pony. Years ago, she made me cringe whenever I heard her voice --be it many moons ago on now-gonno, KPIX-FM (which broadcast the OJ trial) and Thurston was a commentator.
Pat has been with KGO over two decades and is now their top talk-show host. And easily their BEST interviewer. And has made a convert out of me which is very hard to do.
Thurston, for one, gets to the studio early on --at least two hours every day and PREPARES. That's a lot of prep and it shows. You can dislike her and her politics; guess what? I barely agree with PT on a lot of the debate; I tend to be a moderate center-left and I'd say Thurston is far more liberal but I listen. I love to hear Thurston's monologue and I look forward to her takes because I know I'll be entertained and informed and that's first and foremost in news-talk pedigree. And it is there where Pat Thurston has my ear and interest.
*Thurston's putdown of wimpy Paul Rodgers on KGO Friday was SINCERE; Rodger's BAITING of her was a blatant attempt to create controversy for controversy sake. I heard it all, I could tell. And as I listened I could also tell that Thurston would make mincemeat of that jerkoff and she did.
*KRON had visitors from their corporate people last week, Nextstar, and trust me, there was more back-office theatrics than a Hollywood strip show.
*If Thurston and John Rothmann were a weekly Saturday PM show, I'd make sure I'd listen to that duo because it's listenable and that's all I care about.
*Sad Friday listen: Rush Limbaugh.
*Another predictable pound of dreck: Sean Hannity on both his radio and TV show. Throw in Mark Levin tto, gawd how BORING. The guy sounds like a drunk Groucho Marx.
*Befoe the election did any of you ever hear the right-wing radio echo machine complain about voter irregularity? Yeah, you know why? Because until Trump brought it up, they didn't. Never. And when Al Gore was screwed back in 2000, where was Hannity and Levin? Humping Lou Dobbs.
*PLEASE DONATE TO 415 MEDIA --THANKS.
Agreed 100%. I have learned a great deal from her broadcasts, including those of Rothmann. That duo blows out of the water any talk-show host here in the San Diego area. Here the local hosts are virtually all right-wing and do not prepare for their broadcasts at the same painstaking degree that both Rothmann and Thurston do. Thank God for the internet so that I can listen regularly to Thurston and Rothmann.
ReplyDeleteMore like 3-4 hours of prep.
ReplyDeleteKRON had visitors? I would only visit KRON to see Vickie, Mabreesa, and Erika.
ReplyDeleteApologize for Trump or try to tap the breaks on Republican criticism and Pat will hand you your bloody scalp. She does not take shit from the "lets calm down" crowd. She even ripped Rothmann a new one the day prior to skinning Rogers' balls when Rothmann went a little soft on nailing Trump to the wall for the DC traitor show. She wants Trump out, now. Rothmann went a little "voice of reason" on her and called her too emotional. That went badly for Rothmann.
ReplyDeleteI can’t find the link for the Pat vs Rodgers takedown. Can it be posted?

ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to see a list of which news staff/reporters/anchors/journalists have recently left (say in 2020). There seem to be so many who just vanish and leave. I can't keep up with their names & faces. There seems to be an awful lot of turnover in this area. I don't care whether anybody here liked them or not. Some names which come to mind:
Katie Green, Lauren Martinez, Sara Zendenam, Veronica De La Cruz (questionable as to status), others I can't think of by name or employer right now....Michael Savage (I haven't tried the new Podcast format/wondering if Apple/Facebook/Twitter will ban him).
Trump can buy KGO radio and use it as a MAGA Network blowtorch.
ReplyDeleteTrump can rent time on 690am in Mexico and revive the old border blaster days..
CB, Ham and GMRS radio repeaters can replace twitter.
Just like WW2, Trump can use shortwave services in Poland, Vietnam, Mexico,Brazil to replace twitter.
Social media was/is Trump's thing and not radio. Twitter was Trump's largest mode of communication with his army of Red Neck supporters, over 80 Million followers. Thank God Twitter banned him and all his toxic ranting.
DeleteHe still has Rush Limbaugh and many indy AM's and FM's struggling for listeners. Twitter has already lost 5bil and Facebook has lost 34 bil since banning Trump according to Market Insider...https://markets.businessinsider.com

Trump and the MAGA movement is not going away...it's just getting bigger.
Trump also has a MAGA GMRS repeater in L.A. on 462.725 mhz UHF. The deplorables are already buying up CB radios and Ham radios.
Good luck censoring or banning those outlets since the FCC was gutted under Clinton.
I own a small AM-FM here in the northern part of the state. I will gladly carry anything from President Trump. Just give me the sat coord, ISDN or even a dail-up-listen line.
DeleteWe CAN SELL Trump radio in my small town with NO problem. Trump should buy Cumulus at the fire sale price.
I'm sure a few of you know exactly who I'm not too worried...this is a liberal county that values free speech, enterprise and the family unit.
Both Rothmann and Thurston are the MOST boring talkers in radio!!!
DeleteA secret anonymous source has handed me a page from John Rothmann’s contract. It says that every time he says “President of the United States,” he gets an extra $1. Anytime he is able to draw out those words beyond 5 seconds, the amount is doubled to $2. I think that explains why he persists in saying “President of the United States” when “president” would do.
