BAY AREA MEDIA COVERAGE OF CAPITOL MOB TAKEOVER...
With a few exceptions, Bay Area TV News stations stuck to network coverage of the Capitol Hill mob takeover; that was a wise and logical decision as the scene of the incident(s) too place right there at the Capital --with live reports and on-scene reporting --plus an eventual glimpse into the inside awfulness taking over at Capitol cloakrooms.
It was awful and it was riveting at the same time. Sort of what we've come to expect in 21st Century live television news. As with recent TV, you (the viewer) felt as if you were right there from the scene of the crime and with all the technology, you were.
I BEGAN watching the events around 11: 20 AM (PT) --my first inclination was to channel-switch from first, CNN and then, MSNBC and FNC; with separate visits to BBC and CNNI. I wanted to get a glimpse of International coverage. Like you and me, they were shocked at the events to take place.
I periodically tuned into network coverage; both CBS (KPIX) and ABC (KGO) had pretty solid spot-on coverage with tremendous reporting by ABC's Jonathon Karl and biting commentary by ex-NJ Gov, Chris Christie, early on, ripping hard into Pres. Trump, saying "the president will be responsible for all this." Turns out Christie, a regular on ABC's Sunday program, "This Week" was right on.
Adding depth to an already superb reporting panel, CBS' brilliant, Margaret Brennen added terrific questions to her CBS staff on the scene at Capitol Hill as the situation became more tense and the protesters got more aggressive and violent. It was Brennen who FIRST to ask, "where is all the police?! "Where's the security?" --"This is outrageous," said an exasperated Brennen.
RADIO:
KGO went with coverage from its ABC radio staffers virtually all day until John Rothmann took over at 6 PM and broadcast until 10. Rothmann took calls and periodically went back to ABC's inside the gallery vote with VP, Mike Pence in charge of the proceedings,
KCBS was network geared with its CBS Radio staff; KQED took feeds from NPR.
I was watching CTVnews from Canada. Great coverage and different perspective on what was going on in DC.
ReplyDeleteYou take the far left and far right, put them on an island and let them fight to the death with Trump as the host. Boom! Ratings bonanza!
ReplyDeleteWe all know who would win. The only problem would be the left would need time to develop a new far left afterwards.
DeleteThey would be without their rioters!
I was watching CBS and was impressed at how they were handling it. ABC was pretty good too. Fox was actually pretty decent. But you have to admit, nobody did "F her in the P*$$&" on any of the live reporters. That was pretty impressive.
ReplyDeleteI flipped between CBS and MSNBC. CBS with Norah O’Donnell was surprisingly good and MSNBC array of reporters were competent. Nicolle Wallace, Brian Williams, and Rachel Maddow were straightforward.
ReplyDeleteNicolle Wallace is so 🔥...I always watch her show.
DeleteChannel surfing between CNN, CBS and ABC...great coverage from each of them. I agree Norah did a solid job. Maybe CBS should consider having LIVE!! 1 hour Network News @ 5pm as a everyday basis...could begin competition and actually watchable...
ReplyDeleteSo everyone is just going to ignore the riots in Seattle and Portland. Where the terrorists burned down a police station? Where they took a part of the city of Portland and created their own little utopia. Or when BLM, Antifa and the rest of the brain dead liberals "stormed" the US Capitol because they wanted to protest Justice Kavanaugh? Does no one remember the violent attacks from the left because they hated Kavanaugh and believed the lies of Feinstein, Harris and the rest of the mentally ill liberals? Disgusting is what this is. The willful ignorance of the MSM to ignore what the fascist terrorists did to this country this past summer.
ReplyDeleteGod help us all if this is the future of our great country.
Based on comments I'm seeing EVERYWHERE, no-one is forgetting. In fact, there is quite a bit of eye rolling at what the media is doing on this one in comparison to the cities burned in the last one. People are waking up. Only people in echo chambers (such as here) are seeing it 1 sided.
DeleteNice biased rant there. Hope you feel better. Now address the difference in police behavior, National Guard etc. with respect to peaceful BLM protesters and what we all saw Tuesday. Thank you.
