Pat Thurston on ABC Talk Conduit for 2021; KGO Needs to Take Care of its Rising Star

Where are they now? A look at where '90s talk show hosts are today - New York Daily News

YEARS AGO, ABC had a talk syndicate --a spectrum that had the likes of Geraldo Rivera and Tom Joyner; it was not great but very steady.

Now, word on the street, is ABC is exploring the possibility of bringing back a 2021 iteration of its once interesting radio talk enterprise; more importantly to you? ABC has KGO talk host, the star-is-rising, Pat Thurston, on its radar.

Thurston, easily KGO's hottest property, (M-F, Noon -3 PM) is quite happy doing her midday show and her ratings have skyrocketed. How much? Enough for KGO here and the bosses to consider Thurston at least a modest raise. Thurston deserves it and more so.

  1. Were I her I wouldn't go near it. The big suits have a habit of being enthusiastic about something this month, and then blowing cold on it the next. She'll be sorry.

  2. On a completely different subject, what was up with Dennis O'Donnell on KPIX at 6:00 today??? Bastida tossed to him talking about how today was his birthday, and he was both puffy faced and stumbling on his words. He sounded strained, like he was having trouble just reading his into and outcue. Don't know for sure, but it sure looked like too much celebration to me. Shades of Jessica's Savitch's infamous newsbreak in 1983.

    1. The Savitch comparison is a good one!

O'Donnell has been having periodic problems with his speech, and also strange on-air actions, for the last 3 years or so. Rich has mentioned it in his blog, I've posted on it several times, and so have others.

Hope Dennis is OK. Hate to see a longtime local media figure, and native son, struggle like that. To his credit, Dennis seems to be maintaining a positive tone.

  3. She works for Cumulus, not ABC/Disney. A raise? Seriously?! Cumulus just had a round of layoffs last week, including KSFO's last on-air personality.

  4. Have you ever heard of that other "rising star" Dick Van Dyke?
