Sunday Morning Disgrace at KGO (ABC7)

ᐈ Ashamed clip art stock vectors, Royalty Free disgraceful ...IT DOESN'T TAKE A LOT, THESE DAYS, TO BE DISGRACEFUL...To wit:

Sandwiched between the hundred thousand weather reports (which no one gives a shit about because there's this one scary thing taking place) KGO (ABC7 --owned by Disney) set a new low in "how to tell everyone we're nothing but butt-kissers to the Disney empire", the O and O did the following stories on its 9 AM newscast...

First, a low-comedy on those fools working for "American Idol" (carried on ABC7) --a two-minute as-licking promo, featuring Ryan Seacrest.

Followed by a Bay Area "singer" who yearns to be recognized --because, (my words) you can't miss out on a dream even in the middle of a pandemic when over 50 thousand Americans have died.

It was disgracefully abysmal, and then, a certifiable joke.

I felt sorry for the anchor.

Back to weather.

  1. Thanks a lot Rich...I had managed to completely forget about Ryan Seacrest's existance and you ruined it.

  2. Why you so surprised? Fox is notorious for bullshit like this. They're the ones who started this "corporate PR" nonsense because they want ratings. After all, with the plethora of networks around, they want eyeballs on their shows. Frankly, considering some of the programming quality, "Guy's Grocery Games" are much more attractive than watching "The Masked Singer" and goofy Ken Jeong who knows how to keep a gig with his dramatic facial expressions.

  3. I have uncovered doznes of Bay Area employers violating the governor's orders about worker safety, and presenting them to KGO and other stations. The silence is deafening, but when I do hear back I am told there are many stories out there and not enough time to do all of them and they have to prioritize. Then I tune in and see the kind of crap you're describing here, plus stories such as KPIX's "report" that there's more garbage curbside now that people are staying home (no shit!), and a story on one channel, I forget which, about people who are making Covid facemasks for their PETS! They have time for this "reporting," but employers who are breaking state laws and putting employees at risk aren't important enough to warrant investigation. Of course, the fact that many of those employers advertise or someday might advertise on these stations has nothing to do with it (they tell me).

Capitalism has accomplished the same things communism managed to accomplish, only without even using threat of force. So I guess you *could* argue that capitalism is more efficient, if just as deadly. Capitalism also has more contented stooges—I'm sorry, consumers.

  4. KGO Evening News is better than KTVU right now. We got Dan Ashley and Kristen Sze coming to the studio without showing off their home and showing professionalism as an anchor coming to work and deliver good news. Adding on Ama 4K quality reporting at home with a portrait wall background and Sandhya beautiful office at home except her video quality or connection with Xfinity (modem on the background) is not too good. I have no reason to bash KGO vs KTVU Julie bad quality audio and picture, even Jesse Gary audio and picture is better.

  5. A shame that ABC affiliates have to help pay Seacrest's colossal salary (not just with Idol, where three superstars play judges yet have to wait for every single signal; but also with his Kelly Ripa-led weekday morning show), in order to show vital COVID info. LOL, 9:52.

  6. For any reporter/anchor reporting from home, it'd be fine with me if you were wearing a microphone on a headset if it'd give better audio quality.

  7. Is it possible to have the at-home anchors upgrade their internet connection? The stations should be willing to pay this expense. Out of sync audio and video, as well as the delay is distracting.

      Ha ha!

When I worked at KTVU they bought a cake (a Safeway cake) for a departing crew member. The news director at the time (Andrew Finlayson) came running out of his office when he saw it and asked the desk if "we" had paid for the cake. "No," the desk said. Can't spend $20 out of petty cash can we?

    3. Departing crew member = rat jumping ship. I'd have bought a day old cake!

    1. It appears she's hired a PR person to comment occasionally here. And yes, she should feel that insecure.

    2. I thought he was reporting, not anchoring. I saw him on KPIX.

  11. To the last comment. You obviously don't watch Kgo or Dion that often. Lots of energy and multi-dimensional. Not sure if by choice but she is always doing awesome/unique stories when reporting.
