Sunday Eggs and Coffee; Entercom Thrilled; KCBS Rank and File Pissed Off; Record March Book But Moolah Goes to Bosses; Eat Up

Sunday Breakfast by Karin Bijlsma on Dribbble

*YEAH KCBS, your execs and corporate owner, Entercom, are thrilled that you killed in the Mrach book , but on the other hand, your rank and file staffers? They're PISSED OFF. They weren't invited to the party, why? Entercom continues to lay off people; KCBS locally, despite everyone in the world listening. While Entercom paid million dollar bonuses to the big suits, reporters and anchors got ZERO! So those sullen faces in the KCBS newsroom are sullen for a reason.

*Entercom, pre coronavirus pandemic, made close to 2 billion last year; now? a measly $1.4 billion. The stock holders are happy. Regular folk: ask the ones who've been furloughed. I'm sure you'd get a colorful response.

*KGO Radio ratings way, way up; KNBR way, way down. It was KNBR that, in the old days, basically paid for the KGO operation, no more.

*KGO will sound the same, so too KNBR and KSFO, and "The Bone"--except on Monday, 4-20, the economic transition --hosts working less hours and shifts, along with engineers and producers, will make for a highly, pissed off personnel --they may be wanting to smoke a joint and drink --Cumulus' version of 4-20. How symbolic.

*The local TV stations? Yeah, ratings are way up but nowhere near the cable numbers --people here, like people in other markets, want pandemic news but they don't seek info locally--they turn to CNN and MSNBC. Fox too.

*The amateur-hour sports-talk hosts here are still dumb talking about the NFL draft --as if the draft was the second coming. Even if the NFL has no season as it probably won't. Even the prospect of having no fans in stadiums is not an option . Sports-talk hosts are yes, clueless. The toy department has an existence for a reason.

*Still wretched: Mark Thompson.

*Yikes: termite ads in a pandemic.

*Yeah, Steve Somers is an acquired taste. He's not for everyone. But that's why Baskin Robbins has 31 flavors. Same deal. Think about it.

*A new Kenny Choi? like week-old white bread.

  1. Where do you get that KGO's ratings are way, way up? The numbers you have access to (the ones published publicly) show they're stuck in 21st place. If you get a chance, look at the book. There are 15-minute day parts where they don't even have 500 listeners. The numbers are slightly better at KSFO, and Cumulus doesn't have the payroll associated with that station that it does at KGO. At some point, Cumulus will figure out that if they replace everybody on the KGO schedule with satellite programing, they'll get the exact same numbers. It worked at KSFO.

    1. KGO Ratings are FLAT...BTW Thank you for that 6:09pm...And after two months at 1.8, It appears THAT NO ONE show had a significant rise in their Ratings, which might have moved them up. A rising tide LIFTS all boats...and Ratings.

Here is some advice for Cash Strapped Cumulus, Move KSFO's Format, Now all syndicated, to KGO, and sell KSFO to a Religious or Foreign Language Broadcaster. You will save many salaries, and because of KGO's Superior Signal, get better ratings and better rates on spot time. It might even help Cumulus SELL the SF Cluster, which NO ONE seems to want to buy. So Sad that the EGO maniacs (Dickeys) that bought ABC/Citadel radio in 2010 destroyed KGO and other Major Market Properties. Please GO BANKRUPT AGAIN. Only this time "FOR THE GOOD OF RADIO" please Don't comeback.

    2. That sounds horrible. KSFO is all right wing, and not even interesting right wing, although at times Michael Savage can be interesting and I use to listen to A&G at times, but Hannity, Levin and Rush, all total predictable, everything Trump does is genial, and everything the Democrats do is horrible. I have no problem with a right wing radio station, but those of us who like more diversity and more liberal hosts, wouldn't have much left if KGO went away. Besides, you can get Hannity on 650 am Sacramento, Rush on 1530 am Sacramento, and I'm sure some other stations that reaches part of the Bay Area.

  3. KCBS fired the good people and kept the hacks. Sad but not surprising
