KGO Radio  has you --the listener-- in mind and is stepping up to the plate.

With the Coronavirus pandemic in full crisis-mode, a KGO source has told me the news-talk, 50K-watt, giant will have LIVE, weekend programming on its talk schedule.

Weeknight talk host,  John Rothmann, will be on the air Saturday Night (tomorrow) from 5-8 PM and Chip Franklin, Sunday, 5-7 PM.

This is both a smart move from KGO and a strategic plus as the virus is Topic A around the country, the world and its center vortex here in the Bay Area.

I know Rothmann has been talking about this for over three months when it wasn't at the top of the news domain; Franklin has been nonstop and has talked it virtually all his 3-6PM slot on KGO.

It's good too because KGO will be fulfilling its live and local audit to the community and there is no such thing as "too much virus talk" on the radio these days.

I'm glad KGO and Cumulus sees the light.

  1. KGO is improving and that's a nice photo of John Rothman when he was in his 20's :)

    1. If you go to KGO's website you will find a more up to date photo of John. I think in this picture he might be in his forties or thirties. I saw him at a rally in SF around 2002 or so and he looked pretty much like that. In any case I'm glad he will be on this week end, as well as Chip. I usually work on week end, but since my employer (Macy's) is closed I'm just hanging out at the house.

  2. I'm hoping this will boost ratings, draw more advertising dollars and they can get more local talent to fill most hours all week long like the old days. Maybe find a good doctor for a show ala Dean Edell.

    1. Since Cumulus, KGO Parent Company, is Just about to go BACK in Bankruptcy AGAIN, I Doubt that is gonna happen...What they would have to do is have a bump in the ratings by 2-3 points. AND they would have to be Informative/Entertaining ALL THE TIME...and they are NOT.

  3. Is it too much to hope that we'll get Len Tillem back also? He was always so entertaining as well as informative.

  4. Got to give Chip Franklin credit, he's an excellent pitch man and his commercials are the best on KGO. The weekend infomercials like Doug Andrews are terrible

    1. Not only terrible, but the product and the information he is pushing is very misleading. As far as I can tell he wants people to cash in their 401K and other assets and buy HIS life insurance product. Listen to Ric Edelman and Dave Ramsey those are terrible products. I'm licensed Life and Health Insurance agent (not active right now) never sold Life Insurance, but of course family with the product.

  5. I miss Dr. Dean, who retired at the right time before the Cumulus cruise sunk terrestrial radio to the bottom, especially in the Bay Area. Tillem is dealing with health issues, but yes, I miss the Loyah, too.
