IF BRIAN HACKNEY wants the KPIX weather gig about to be open (vacated by Chicago-bound Paul Deanno) then he can probably have it although there's no indication he's going that way. Hackey still thinks of himself as a news guy first but that may change soon. Nobody really knows what's goin g on at PIX other than there's a lot going on, use your imagination.
*THIS is Greg Papa in a nutshell: the new 49ers PBP guy has asked guests what they think of his new TD call. Not just a few guests on his KNBR show but every guest. What an egotistical asshole.
*Frank Somerville and Mark Ibanez should know that married men should stay clear of single, cute, female Iranian interns; at best, they create conflict. At worst, they cause divorce and misery. Both KTVU guys got caught up in this seduction and no longer talk; even on the air they barely look at each other.
*KGO Radio is so desperate they're asking salespeople to work out national accounts; in the biz these PSA-like ads are referred to as remnents --they are nothing like, in terms of revenue, local banks ads and car dealerships and food stores. They are almost freebies and portray a shop barely able to keep the air conditioning working.
*By the way, hey Jim Gabbert, KGO could be a steal for you, you too MZ Zwerling. Nickels on the dollar I hear.
*KPIX proves you cannot just operate a news team and just wing it. You have to have direction and MO; you have to have a clear idea, a goal and a series of ideas with an endgame. CBS could hire me and I could devise a plan to rid its O and O on a path, not necessarily to paradise but not to Death Valley either where PIX is headed at a far higher cost than it would be to let me execute the execution.
*Yes, they say the full disclosure each and every time they whore the company; that said, Disney's insistence its ABC-owned stations continue to pimp Disney ventures like its park, t's films, its TV shows and do so almost every day makes its TV News anchors look bad. They know it sucks too especially the ones on KGO whose faces look like a DMV photo when having to plug Mickey Mouse every day and every newscast, what a crock.
*Don't be shocked if Entercom BLEW UP the entire "The Game" (95.7 FM) sooner rather than later. The all-sports FMer doesn't seem to make any money nor does its talent of on-air people but in PM drive, Damian Bruce has a sheer talent of telling listeners how he is as a father. How riveting.
*I think it's a game to actually hear the game.
*Papa needs a 100 grand a month just to pay the bills. No wonder he hops on everything.
*The Warriors have LOADS of money; talk about a franchise that could and should BUY its own radio station.
*Did someone mention Bruce Bochy retired?
*The mental morons in the morning on KNIBBER practically came in their pants while talking about the BOCH; I don't know if that's course for laughing, crying, shaking the head, wait a minute, All of the above.
*Good news, Bad News: First the good, No more Giants' replay, now the bad, more Amy Lawrence of CBS Radio sports.
*Could Bochy take Amy G with her?
*Paul Deanno headed to Chicago --more money, more people, less good weather. But good for the windy city and Paul, you don't even have to hybrid too And you'll make much more moolah.
*Amber Lee: KTVU's Holly Quan.
*Cheryl Hurd can pretty much pick and choose at PIX but I don't know if she wants that kind of action.
*Poor KRON: Yeah, that Ken Wayne hire sure moved the needle. (YAWN)
*Bill Martin, $300G a year to mumble and grumble. No wonder Fox is waiting to use the bazooka.
*Pretty soon: "The Bill Martin Report."
*Ronn's Reports are for good cause: they help subsidize Sharon Stone's Sea Cliff bathroom.
*John Handlery: makes Steve Moskowitz sound like Paul Harvey.
When I figured out that Murph was going to weep for four hours about Bochy, I switched stations. He (and Marty) makes me hate baseball. Everything about it is interminable.
ReplyDeleteI walked into the KNBR restroom right after Krueger used it...Goddam!!! That stank will knock the Devil unconscious!!
DeleteShania Twainvah, Rich.
ReplyDeleteWelcome back! Nice post. Just wondering...Jon Miller was saying "we'll join you next from Spring Training, February 23rd in Scottsdale".... like he is coming back.?.?. Not sure what to make of this based on what I have seen here in recent months. Is everyone just hush hush at the Giants amen corner right now?
ReplyDeleteRich was incorrect on that. Hank Schulman reported a few days ago that Krukow's contract was up but that they are renegotiating and expect Krukow back. Kuiper's contract expires next year, same situation. Fleming was reupped last season I believe. So yea...nothing is changing.
DeleteWonder if Hackney has a preference, re: working vs. not working during the weekends? Ditto Goodrich.
ReplyDeleteHateraid served daily -
ReplyDeleteAnyone else tired of hearing about Bochy? I am. Go A's!
ReplyDeleteI would much rather listen to Amy Lawrence then the dreadful replays or that sleepy, monotone, wasn't old time baseball great, Marty Laurie all weekend long. A. Law. knows her stuff and she loves the Sharks
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the ceremony Sunday - I'm also guessing it marks the end of a chapter and a serious reboot of the franchise. Hearing the names of the former players gathered, I still can't believe they won three Series with that crew. A truly great manager.
ReplyDeleteFrank Somerville and Mark Ibanez should know that married men should stay clear of single, cute, female Iranian interns; at best, they create conflict. At worst, they cause divorce and misery. Both KTVU guys got caught up in this seduction and no longer talk; even on the air they barely look at each other.
ReplyDeleteMeh she's average at best. Would I fuck her...NO/
Amy Lawrence is one of the few national talk show hosts that actually talk about...Baseball. Everyone else views it as a Regional/local only topic.
ReplyDeleteALO is gross
DeleteI like Amy Lawrence. No matter how stupid or boring her callers may be, she treats them with respect and is always enthusiastic. Too bad her show gets preempted so much during baseball season.
Deleteglad your back damn it
ReplyDeleteI'd think Somerville and Ibanez would be walking past each other in the hallway grinning and giving the other high-fives.
ReplyDeleteOne of us needs to win the Lotto so we can buy KGO!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back and hope you had a great Rosh Hashanah.
Papa moving to KNBR has made 95.7 the Game worse. Now both stations are mediocre at best. Both drive time shows are pretty bad. KNBR's TKB lacks chemistry. 95.7's the DRK hour lacks a strong host. Today he was bragging like a little girl that he got to interview Governor Newsom. Whoopie.
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe the 2nd person involved in that Frank cheating affair is Mark. Even they were formally married and have money, Intern P (first letter of her name) should not obsess her co-workers just to get something. Maybe, both she and the reporters are very itchy and howling. These incident happened at all work places especially big companies with staffs having powerful position just makes me wonder did the former KTVU Dennis did the same thing while he fled far away from the Bay Area after retirement.
ReplyDeleteOne more question, is Intern P, the Iranian intern who did it with Frank still a working for KTVU???
The possibility of the Game ceasing increases as long as Bruce and the awful Fortenbaugh remain employed there.
ReplyDeleteI listen to the Game in morning and afternoon drive, bugs the crap out of me that Fartenbaugh repeats himself 5 times in 30 seconds, is that a compulsive disorder or does he thinks his listeners are dumb? I don't mind Bruce, Ratto and the other guy. Ratto is pretty good but takes a minute between words, the dead silence got to go.
Deletejoe fortenbauh knows gambling and being an pompus arrogant prick which is how he always come across
DeleteHey Rich, hear anything about the dispute DISH Network has with Fox? I find KTVU,KICU 36 and Fox Sports 1 gone from my Dish service. Dish showing a video of the Fox suits bragging about getting another 1 BILLION in re-transmission revenue for their signal. I don't really watch anything on KTVU except maybe football on Sundays. Don't watch the other stations anyway. Just wondering how long the impasse will last?
ReplyDeleteKGO radio should heed Big Dick Cheney's advice: "When you dig yourself into a hole, first, stop digging." In other words replace that radical right dynamic morning duo, and John Batchelor. Then instruct the rest of the on-air talent that their show's number one priority is to cultivate the callers. One has to wonder why KGO management isn't able to see it is to their advantage to do just that.
