THE SPOTLIGHT TODAY WILL BE ON THE WEATHER, actual weather with hundred-degree temperatures and gusty winds --all the ingredients for a major wildfire to kick up, good lord it's not even October yet.

*Hey Bruce Jenkins of the Chronicle, nice orgasmic article on Cal Football and Coach Justin Wilcox only you never brought up why the Chron has IGNORED Cal and picked up AP wire pieces on the Bears thus far, (probably not this week) I gather the costs to cover college football is expensive but a 4-0 start and much bruhaha seems to be an odd time to 86 Berkeley's Bears.
*KGO is banking on the latest Trump hijinks --combined with a crazy 2020 election to power up the radio ratings and its hopeful revenue generator --so too, KSFO and the rightwing echo machine ; if this election fails to , pardon the phrase, light up the fire, I don't know what will.
*More on Nancy Pelosi apparently nixing a shot on KGO with Ronnnnnn, appears one of Owens' gophers was "obnoxious" on the phone with a Pelosi aide, I'm surprised it wasn't Lowenstein himself.
Sadly Cal football (like the A's) don't garner much local interest, near empty stadiums for both despite their recent success. Cal (and the A's) need to do more internally to promote their product otherwise they are barely covered.
ReplyDeleteExactly. The sports anchors don't help either. Not saying all of them. It's always the Giants this or that whether they win or lose, especially when they aren't relevant this late in the season. Yay!! As if they're they only Bay Area baseball team. They sometimes bring them up when talking about other teams, too. ie, "a former Giant ..." They don't give the A's enough credit when credit is due. If they lose a game, subtle snide remarks are made. If they win, they take this blase attitude & show very little clips. Every now & then they seem to give them more credit, much to their chagrin, and you can tell. Oh, and if they don't make it to the playoffs, they can't contain their joy.
DeleteAdd Stanford (and San Jose State) and all college sports in the Bay Area. Attending a live college game is a very nice experience...but for the most part they are only attracting students, alumni and players families to these events nowadays. Local media typically follows where the local interest lies...and is not responsible for being a marketing arm of the schools. That said, it wasn't that long ago that college sports was a much bigger deal around here. There's a lot of things that need to be fixed with college sports in the Bay Area. Hoping one day it will be more relevant and vibrant around here.
ReplyDeleteNothing about Michael Savage as Trumps guest on Airforce One last week during the Prez California visit?
ReplyDeleteIT shows what a blow hard Savage is that before last week he was all over Trump for failing to do a lot of things (mainly building the wall). He also said that Trump no longer liked him and blah blah blah. Then Trump comes, lets him fly on Air Force One, feeds him a hot dog and signs him an autograph and suddenly Savage is all fangirl. He always talks crap about the other radio hosts on KSFO yet feed him a hot dog and he is exactly the same.
DeleteHey, Rich, KPIX is supposed to launch CBSN San Francisco (streaming) before the end of the year. What have you heard?
ReplyDelete"the situation [...] became a lot more fluid"
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the most annoying phrases of the last decade. If you use this phrase or say "incentivize" around me, expect to get punched in the face.
