I HAD IT FIRST, OF COURSE I DID.

Now we hear where Paul Deanno is headed: Chicago-bound WMAQ, the NBC O and O.

Make no mistake, this is a HUGE loss for KPIX as it loses one of its prized performers, not only in terms of personality and popularity with viewers; that's bad enough.

Deanno  is a more talented news anchor and although his weather reporting and overall production is worth his price tage (over $350K a year) its his on-air presence that stands out in an otherwise marginalized local TV News world.

Chicago wins out.

SF and the Bay Area lose a star.

  1. That photo of him looks like it was taken about 30 years ago...

  2. Prized performer? Really? Bay area weather. Don't get it. Same on all local stations.

    1. Yeah, really. It's a MAJOR CHANGE IN THE WEATHER when the temperature drops by five degrees.

    2. At least he'll have more weather to comment on. SF's loss. Chicago's gain. Deanno deserves a more professional market like Chicago.

    3. Can't agree wit your "same on all local stations". Deanno was good and solid on TV or on KCBS when he gave the weather reports there on my drive home in the evening. Maybe less personality, but very clear and understandable forecasts.

  3. I must be a tough audience because he never did anything for me. Compared to Hackney, Deanno is just plain boring.

  4. Speculation on the replacement for Deanno?

  5. Rich...

Don’t get you. Have you seen TV in other US local markets ? This is hardly top 10 market quality. I’ve seen better talent in an 80‘s market. Better presence of the talent and they dress better, not to mention the audience knows them and identifies with them.

I know Paul personally. Not a bad guy, but wallpaper, frankly. Great for the Bay Area. Chicago has some real personalities. They’re a REAL top ten market. Let’s see if the local critic there is as blown away as you’ve been.

    1. In other markets, LA for example, they often have very attractive and younger females doing weather. And they are convincing too.

  6. I've only seen Deanno do the weather and he's very good -- but Hackney is my favorite (for both weather and anchoring), so I hope this means we'll see him more often. If Deanno enjoys reporting weather, he should find Chicago a MUCH more interesting assignment than SF!

    1. Wonder how many more years Hackney is going to work (on-air)? He maintains a relatively youthful appearance, but he's getting up there in age.

  7. The only reason I tuned into KPIX news was Deanno and the weather. Bastida looks like he just woke up and the grey haired anchor looks like is constantly smelling a fart. In Deanno they lost the the only potential anchor they had

  8. When will they finally cut Veronica De La Cruz. She looks like such a bitch and diva to get along with. Literally a cash cow!!!
