WATTS LEAVING 'PIX

Julie Watts, the wholesome, sometimes consumer, sometimes weather anchor, is leaving KPIX and headed for Sacramento CBS O and O (Owned and Operated) KOVR.

KPIX brass let their staff know this (Wednesday) evening, according to a source close to the station. That same source told me the news and a little more too:

"She wasn't happy here and wanted to do more consumer and investigative stories, said the person who is in a position to know.

Watts has been at KPIX since 2010. Her reporting garnered seven Emmys and numerous industry awards. Presumably, in hungry Sacramento, she'll be able to do more and get extra air time; it's unusual for a smaller market to snatch a Top 10 personality like Watts but that's what Sactown CBS did.

Good for Watts and good for CBS and its state capital eyeball.

  1. Market size isn't so important anymore like it used to be especially with so much content to be had online

  2. Who is she? Never heard of her.

  3. I heard there was a fire in San Francisco today. Did you see anything about it on TV?

    1. All afternoon on all the stations. They all did a good job.

  4. Good for her, but times have changed. It was once a big thing to move from Sacto to The City, just like Herb Caen did, and not the other way around. KPIX is still having its troubles.

  5. Don't know who she is, she can go up to the goofy relatives I have up there with her hair cut.

    1. The hair! The hair! Wasn't that style popular in the '80s?

  6. Good riddance. Julie Watts came across as a snotty bitch who thought her $#*t didn't stink. It has actually been great that she is hardly seen on tv anyway, so it isn't much of a loss any way you look at it. Thank goodness KPIX still has Maria Medina and Betty Yu...

  7. Julie Watts was lucky she wasn't fired from PIX over the "Viola" incident.

She was doing a story, and when she discovered something, she replied "Viola" instead of "Voila."

The story was picked up by a couple of the late night talk shows. I don't know if SNL did anything.

Needless to say, an embarassment for PIX.

    1. My God, compared to half the idiocy I see on TV news every night, that's nothing.

I mean, Ho Lee Fuk, it's not like Sum Ting was Wong.

You expected her career to go Bang Ding Ow over that?

  8. Worked with Julie in Sac at KCRA. She is awesome!

  9. She didn't seem happy. A few years back, while on-air, she lost her typical aplomb and was clearly fighting back tears. She is smart, talented and versatile. But as some have mentioned on this site, she can come across as being "a piece of work."

  10. Watts' LinkedIn account says she started at PIX in Feb. 2009. So for her, it was a 10-year itch.

  11. Is her spouse currently in Sac Town? It is hard for a couple living long distance together

  12. So damn hot. Too bad she is leaving. Is that a microaggression because I said she was hot?

  13. There is a sexy librarian look with Julie Watts.

  14. Don't forget, she came from Sacramento TV where her performance was not only unremarkable, but somewhat irritating. And prior to Sacramento, Fresno where perhaps she'll eventually end up again to make the circle complete.

  15. Julie is a MILF. Bad attitude but I'd love to bone her
