KCBS is Being Entercomed

Image result for entercom radio KCBS  SLOWLY BUT SURELY, KCBS continues to sound like it is declining before our very ears.

The all-news AM radio powerhouse is beginning to morph into a wretched excess of unnecessary happy talk (for the sake of just plain talking, as if it was needed absolutely); it is not the same station; we knew this was a given because newly-minted Entercom butting in to make sure it had its stamp on fucking up pretty much a news station that needed nothing to be really fucked with.

We now have relentless on-air contests which sound especially poignant after an update from hell. The nuance of hardcore reporting live and local news is suddenly on the back burner and even traffic and weather together has been mucked up by a torrent of forced happy talk  by super-chirpy anchors. It's a carnival of laughs, really.

All of a sudden I'm hearing Megan Goldsby 24/7. She's not bad mind you but do I have to hear here every five minutes? Can we be fresh and have a little small sample. OK, at least Goldsby 24/7 is better than Jeffrey Schaub on a Marin fire. Grouchy Schaub not.

KCBS is still the go-to when a disaster breaks out but when there's nothing on the dock and it's a slow news day the cackling and broadcast minutiae smells to high heaven now with a cacophony of noise.

KCBS is being Entercomed.

    1. That "contest" is simply a way of collecting data on their listeners. They match with cell numbers up with salesforce and google and other databases.

  3. Look what happened to KBLX. It got Entercomed and now has a generic name instead of the classic The Quiet Storm.

    First KGO and now KCBS.

  4. We are running out of options on AM radio. If it ain't broke don't fix it. What is KCBS going to do when major news breaks and the Raiders are broadcasting on KCBS.

    1. It seems ridiculous to tout itself as the Bay Area's News yet taking on sports broadcasts for the first time in a generation for the only team that will literally leave the Bay Area in a couple years - like KCBS WANTS to support the traitorous Raiders??!! Absolute cockamamy blunder!! ... This and when you call in to report a story it is like someone answering the phone for the first time to take a pizza order - it seems like they have no clue how to break away from the radio wheel or how to handle a real report of NEWS. Astounding.

  5. I concur w/the posts above regarding broadcasting pro-sports. KCBS-radio would be wise to stick with their all-news format knitting; definitely not in their interest to be broadcasting pro-sports. Reporting about pro-sports, that's ok as a filler. But not broadcasting entire games. It will hurt their ratings bigtime if they continue. If KCBS must broadcast entire games, they should do that on their FM station, and leave the AM-740 station content the same as before. Ever since KGO-radio went belly-up (programming-wise) I've been mostly listening to KCBS, with a little KQED for their talk and news shows. When KCBS broadcast a pro football game recently, my response was to switch channels immediately to KQED. It's a no-brainer. When KQED had an uninteresting segment, I tuned back into KGO to see what was happening there. I didn't switch back to KCBS as my main listen for 4 or 5 days. Unlikely I'm the only one that responded by staying away. Can't be good for KCBS's ratings.

  6. KCBS is not a news station. It's 24 hour op/ed crap for the National Socialist Party. They need something to keep people interested, because they're not really peddling news!
