Breaking: Ken Wayne Leaving KTVU; Veteran Anchor/Reporter

Image result for ken wayne ktvu SOURCE: WAYNE OUT at KTVU

I just got wind from a Channel 2 Fox source that Ken Wayne is leaving the station.

Wayne has been working without a contract (as I reported); he's been at KTVU since 1993 and in 2002 began to anchor weeknight/weekday news.

This is a stunner but given today's environment in TV News not especially shocking.

'I'll be investigating further.

  1. Ken Wayne said he was flying to SoCal recently. Maybe a job offer? I think he said he was flying to San Diego

    1. Probably recreation. He's a recreational pilot.

  2. WOW! KTVU will miss Ken Wayne for sure. Huge loss, but not a surprise to be honest. He never got a prime-time gig when he would be THE TOP anchor on any other station, with the exception of maybe ABC7, who would probably give him the 5pm slot with Kristen Seize.

Andre Senior will most likely be the replacement. Alyana Gomez will be encouraged to come back soon; but KTVU will need an additional male anchor ASAP! Tonight the 4 on 2 was Christina Rendon and Heather Holmes, and 5,610,11 was/will be Heather and Julie. Julie has taken SO much time off I get the feeling she is zoned out from KTVU. Would not be at all surprised if Julie, Bill, Jesse Gary, Rob Roth, and Tom Vacar all leave FOX 2 within the year....

In my opinion, Ken leaving is like the snowball slowly starting to roll... KTVU is starting to lose their WOW factor.... I've watched all KTVU lately (morning and night) and they have way less LIVE coverage than before.... Their reporters seem incapable of producing complete packages, and KTVU just reuses their earlier live shots on later newscasts. Its almost as if they need to get their cameras back to the station for the evening newscasts.....

And finally, KTVU has NO consistency this year! Julie has worked about half the primetime newscasts this year, Frank takes a day off every other week, Ken Wayne has taken a lot of time off, and Heather Holmes is in and out as well. Maureen Naylor seems to be being groomed as an anchor as well.

Quite frankly, the Bay Area does not have a watchable news station. I know you LOVE KGO ABC7, but I can't stand their stale studio or constant production mistakes.

    1. What "constant production mistakes"? Seriously, they have fewer glitches than anyone these days.

    2. Stale studio?? They have the "best" anchor desk in the business. They finally figured out why Fox (cable) has been so successful. Put a woman who stands out and is daring, (Extra Special) behind the desk and you have a winning combination!

Good to see the half people turning into real people, a welcome improvement!! KPIX has the most half people. Do half people make less money?

  5. This station has way too many anchors even Frank and Julie job might be in jeopardy. Just ask yourself one question, how come the main anchor need to fill in on weekends? One station news no longer can trust!

  8. Rich, I'm too old and too sick to follow things as I once did. I share your memories of a wonderful San Francisco which has been left history replaced by a shit covered city of zombie drug addicts...

Regarding Anchors, how is it that so many are missing in action? I note your comments on KTVU and note that Pam Cook is missing in action more than she is on air. In the old days when news mattered having an anchor on screen mattered now it does not seem to. In addition to being gone so much Pam shows in the early AM lacking on screen makeup only adding it as the show progresses so I've lost respect for her. I'll give her credit she carefully plans her absences to magically miss any big news stories and take tons of time off for the holidays, spring break, a mental health break. With her attendance record and declining attitude I wonder how long that smile will carry her. I recall she quit a few year back but they was wooed back to KTVU but she is showing indications of lack of interest including hiding out at the staff mandated roll call at the ever present Chinese New Year Parade. The last few years she has been hiding in the cable car with her kids and avoiding the group shot KTVU savors.

But this is true too with the ever absent Laura Garcia. Today people were asking where she was after being off for a long time taking care of here 3 kids, today she is not feeling well and taking care of her 3 kids. I honestly thought she left the station she was gone so much but then a big deal she reappears only go go away again as soon as she can.

The new traffic gal at KGO is in the same boat, gets the job gets pregnant and abandons the job for a very long time. Comes back a few days and today and recently good old Sue Hall is back filling in for her. In this instance I suspect the new traffic gal will be pregnant in two or three weeks and off for another couple of years.

Kenny Choi has not been at KPIX long enough to be absent so much either.

Looking back at the old days with Kate and Mac at KPIX they were both there all of the time in comparison to today's standards, so I'm wondering if these absentee anchors have their feet out the door or are just milking the system for a lot of time off as they hate their job?

This topic might be worth looking into if you have the time and interest...

  9. I hope Frank Sommerville writes a rambling Facebook post about this and it's then picked up by SF Gate and printed near poorly-written Chronicle slideshow clickbait about the best Bay Area bath houses.

  10. Who?

Oh, the guy who thinks he's Walter Cronkite.

  11. Has their been any Kenny Choi sightings lately? He's been MIA and maybe he's Wayne's replacement, but please go by Ken Choi.

  12. Lets face it, there is only one irreplaceable tv news person in the Bay Area... That would be Da Lin on KPIX.
I wait each day for his reporting so I can hear him sign off with.."reporting from (insert city), I'm Da Lin..."

    1. Da Lin sucks, big time! Just bought a 55" Sony Smart TV, it really is smart. Whenever I am watching KPIX and Da Lin appears, the TV automatically switches to another channel!

    2. I thought he was doing his Zsa Zsa Gabor impersonation, saying Darling. But pronouncing it a Da-Lin!!
