  1. Rich, I own a radio and television station. Why should I hire you?

    1. You shouldn't.
      I didn't apply.

But if you did we would probably never get along because just the way you framed the question I know I could never work with you let alone for you.

  2. How long do you think Darya and Aron have left now that the Nexstar / Media General merger has been approved?

    Days?
    Hours?
    Minutes????

    1. When they lose the pictures.

No, seriously, I have no idea. Everyone is so rudderless over there. They still need people to turn the lights on, stay tuned.

    1. Oh, that's an easy one: I'm taking Moonves job at CBS.

  5. You once wrote Sam Brock was one of the highest paid people in local media.
Do you think its because he looks like a younger version of the guy who hired him?
Is that how it works in big business sometimes?

    1. Stan I never wrote that "Sam Brock was one of the highest paid ever"--Never. In fact, I'm surprised I even know that a Sam Brock is on NBC Bay Area but if I didn't observe as much for obvious reasons he'd be a footnote, hardly notice the guy.

By the way, Stan, if you rip me in your posts --like you do regularly, at least rip me in style and be more "Stannish".

Why are all the stations scheduling so much news (3-4 hours in the morning and again from 4-6 then onto a sister station for more). Is there really that much demand for it? Or is it that it is relatively cheap to produce compared running syndicated sit-coms or dramas as in the past?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because news makes a lot of money for the stations and yes, it is relatively cheap to produce. Syndicated shows not so much.

  7. Where do you see The Raiders and Donald Trump in 5 years?

    1. The people who seem to have good inside knowledge have told me the Raiders/Vegas situation is a "done deal"; that said, I still have reservations that the NFL will do Mark Davis any favor and just let him go to LV, plus I'm also not sold on Sheldon Adelson (Vegas casino mogul fronting most of the cash) getting NFL OK. Adelson has a habit of suing lots of people and plus, he probably wants more of the Raiders (pie) than Davis would approve.

More likely the NFL kicks the can on this and puts it on the back burner, but nothing would surprise me.

Trump? Hell, 5 years? I'm more concerned about tomorrow. Did you watch his press conference? Yikes!

      Delete
    2. Missed his press conference. I'll have to catch it later on one of the news websites, or YouTube. I've been duly warned!

      Delete
    3. Don't waste your time. He showed once again what a grave mistake the voters made. The leaders of America's allies must be very scared (when they are not laughing).

      Delete
    4. Biased opinions aside, he showed a breath of fresh authentic air. No more politically correct bs. If you pull bullshit, hell call you out for bullshit. That's how good that news conference was. Besides, the amount of money saved on not needing teleprompters and speechwriters to dictate his every word is going to save the country tens of thousands alone.

      Delete
    5. Make sure you watch the entire press conference, not selected snippets from the likes of CNN and others that are designed to put him in the worst possible light.

      Randall, Burlingame

      Delete
    6. By forgoing those teleprompters and speechwriters, he nobly saves taxpayers dollars. Besides, that money is better spent elsewhere. Like for intense, extensive, and expensive security details to protect his (and his family's) numerous expansive homes, skyscrapers, and other personal and business properties.

      Delete
    7. dear 1:48...press conferences of the presidential variety, are never(never) conducted with teleprompters by any president.

      Delete
    8. Randall..CNN carried the entire press conference..live. Only you saw "selected snippets".

      Delete
    9. 2:23: I watched the whole thing, it happened to be on CNN, and I LOVED EVERY SECOND OF IT! He was great.

      Delete
    10. @148pm..It's not about being politically correct, it's about not being an asshole. BTW, Trump is no breath off fresh air. He's a narcissistic jerk, who's way over his head with this job. Look at the cabinet he assembled: Bigots and billionaires like him. Champion of the middle class? BULL SHIT!! These next 4 years (maybe less) are going to be downright frightening.

      Delete
    11. Downright frightening for narrow minded individuals whose candidate lost and have been proclaiming that the sky is going to fall for months now. Get over it. Your side lost and for good reason. And guess what? The sun will rise on January 21st the same as it will 2..4..8..10..20 years from now.

ANYONE will be a better champion of the middle class than the outgoing administration and their pandering to the coastal elites. The Dems truly have failed and hoodwinked their voters all these years.

      Delete
    12. Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld have lowered the bar so much that an inexperience con-man, with votes from only 26% of registered voters, is going to be the President. A sad time for our nation.

      Delete
    13. @12:23..too much Fox News and Rush for you. All GOP talking points. We lost cuz Americans are stupid and fell for this Con man's bullshit. So the Rethugs will control everything now but will blame Obama and Clinton when everything blows up. You guys have no original ideas, never have. In 4 years, the Dems will bail the country out AGAIN.

    1. Better than expected but have flatlined now. I don't think they're going to affect KTVU MO2 --but that wasn't their objective. I think they're looking for respectability.

      Delete
  9. Ok,let me say it different. You did a list of "Highest paid local on air TV people" ( my way of saying it) and on that list I noticed Sam Brock was making 250G.
    So,no,you didn't write he's the highest paid,etc.
What we have here is a misunderSTANding..semantics maybe.

Radnich was gone...now they said he's back.No explanation so far.

    1. Ok, Stan, got it in, it's all semantics.

Meanwhile, more important things: where can I get a good pizza in Hayward?

  11. Now that Anny Hong is back any more drama with Robin Winston?

    ReplyDelete

    1. They don't get along so yes, inevitable conflict --but by then, KRON could be vastly different.

      Delete
    2. Anny is horrible. The baby took a huge toll, yes, but the eyebrows are insane. Even hottie Robin isnt enough to keep me watching...ner a panty line.

But the big news is Will Tran's horrible attitude/body language when he is in the "Hollywood Squares" box, waiting to be introduced. He is so indignant that he has to be out in a ridiculous yellow raincoat on HWY 37 and not in studio on a hi-chair. Super creepy.

      What about that y'all?

      Delete
    3. I saw Hong return and just rolled my eyes. Dave Spahr is 10 times better than all of them yet Rich never gives him credit.

      Delete
    4. I agree with the comment above. Dave Spahr explained the weather in a way so viewers could understand it. Why is he only doing weekend mornings now? Rebecca Strom is so stiff on air

  12. Radnich and Kruger left their show midway through. Kevin Lynch comes on and talks like Radnich died -praising him.
Kruger and Radnich return later to say that KNBR "Had a meeting".
It HAD to be in the middle of the show?
What do you make of that? Baloney?

    1. I'll probably know by the end of the day if not sooner.

Real professional of them to have a meeting and pull their guys off the air. Very nice.

      Delete
    2. One of them also mentioned that Tolbert showed up to the meeting a bit late. And Ray Woodson was also around well before his shift started. Sounds like a company meeting.

      Delete
    3. 126, I never saw the Tonight Show stop for a company meeting, Or People are Talking,or Mac and Mutley.
If the meeting was that big, then I guess somebody is worried about a lawsuit. Meeting to get their story straight muy pronto is my guess.

      Delete
    4. Or, Stan, if you've even actually had a job that required meetings - they have to happen at some time. Somebody's show is going to get impacted by it, it's just a matter of whose. Why management chose that specific time for the meeting is anybody's guess, but if they'd called the meeting for 4PM and Tolbert had to bail his show, it would be the exact same situation.

      Delete
    5. Sure 129. Its the voice or reason to say that their best ratings morning show hosts would go off air..for a meeting. Name any other show (non cable access!) that's done that. You cant.
It was bizarre and really had the "round up the wagons" written all over it. Gee I wonder why? Legal worries sounds about right to me.

  16. Why are there hardly any advice shows on the radio? Talk radio used to be full of shows like Dr. Laura, Dr. Ruth, Dr. Joy Browne, and now there are difficult to find. I don't think any exist on terrestrial radio in the Bay Area. Why is that, and do you see them having a comeback?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. 6:16 PM..I'm with you. I think I miss those personal advice shows more than anything else. Now, we get back to back Kim Komando with her computers. She's good, but it's not at all the same thing. I wish Barbara Simpson could return with such a show. She is a Wise-Non-Latina who could pull it off. I suspect Barbara has stopped waiting for another good gig on the radio. I hope she's getting along with her daughter. Remember?, a few years back, Barbara was beaten up by one of her daughters, and left lying on the front lawn.
