Back from 415 Media Flu Bed; KNBR: Four Irish Frat Boys Talk Over One Another; Now Giants-Free, What Will They Do? Nevius Leaves Chronicle; Sussman Works on Yom Kippur; KGO Radio; KRON; KPIX: The Usual Suspects; Thursday Joel Murray Special

Image result for San Francisco silhouettes My head still feels like it's about to explode. Runny nose. Eyes out of focus. Halls cough drops and a vat full of Black tea. I'm glad I went to get a flu show a few weeks ago because isn't this just wonderful. Maybe it was apropos I caught this crappy flu on Yom Kippur --I'm atoning quite good, thanks God for letting me know I have work to do.

How's your day going?

*On KNBR, four very loud Irish white guys, aka: the frat boys were kibbutzing about the Giants this (Thursday) morning --God knows they don't ever talk about the Giants( wink) so this was a rather extraordinary morning. Making matters extraordinarily funny were they all were talking over one another so there really wasn't anything you could pick up, that's bonus coverage if you ask me.

KNBR is in crisis --they are now without their meal ticket: the Giants. And suddenly devoid of the Warriors as a talking point. Only are the vaunted 49ers that remain on the Knibber ledger which means the possibility of more Cumulus taped financial shows or more interns doing sports-talk, what a bonanza!

*NBC Bay Area anchors not named Raj Mathai are secretly telling Ms. Androuney (ND) they have the goods to be KNTV's primary anchor although I'm not sure any of them can fill Raj's shoes except Terry McSweeney and he's not interested. Seems a power suit let out an internal memo asking if everyone thinks the weekday anchor line-up is "strong enough?" Ouch. No wonder Mathai is sort of edgy these days.

**Excuse me as I sip my 17th cup of Black tea. As if that's working. (Not)

*Noted without comment: The only Jewish person in the Bay Area media working on Yom Kippur was KSFO's Brian Sussman.

*After 36 years working as a dedicated scribbler, Chuck Nevius is leaving the Chronicle in December ostensibly to enjoy life and rid his brain the sight of looking at Audrey Cooper, the EIC who has brought lots of energy to the paper since her promotion, yeah, like the equivalent of a Samsung smart phone exploding every five minutes.

*In other words, Audrey was brought on to weed out the last remaining non-millennials that earned more than 20 bucks an hour and could write a column worth skimming. Now the Chronicle is reduced to kitschy, uninteresting scribblers like Beth Spotswood, about as compelling a read as taking a #2 at the Van Ness Chevron.

*Nobody has any decent chicken soup in this area which means I have to venture to Oakland Chinatown to yell "No Noodles, no noodles, just the soup!" That's hard work.

Image result for Joel Murray Rich Lieberman*If it weren't for Joel Murray I'd be collapsed on the Market Street side of Golden Gate searching for the Monte Stickles seat at Studio Café.

*If Hillary wins Utah and Arizona then I'm going to predict that Donald is going to have a bad night; makes you want to go out and cruise the Tenderloin with the Bentley Guy and look for some pussy.

*Speaking of Raddy wouldn't at all be surprised he's a goner from whatever's left of KRON come year's end.

*The lead bartender at Kokkarri has to put up with a certain bratty femme fatale wannabe from KRON who was recently married to a much younger man. She's quite the lady but she might want to stick to the white wine, the shots can be a real drag.

*Pam Moore: your bit of civility has taken a hit.

*More KRON: Steve Aveson: about as phony as a 3-dollar bill. All he needs is some good head-bobbing and he can eclipse Milt Kahn.

*Now she can't make out the Pacific Ocean: PIX's morning traffic stick, Roqui Theus. But at least she now knows the Golden Gate Bridge. Shots at Old Ship for everyone!

*Anne Makovec still wants very badly out of PIX only now PIX can't wait for Annie to finally get her ass out which is something of a sea change.

*Yeah, Annie, you're just a body.

*Boy that Kenny Choi hire really has the town buzzing!

*House-hunting: Justine Waldman and Grant Lodes. Either KRON's financial situation has taken a northern detour or the couple, (she's pregnant again) won a lottery ticket.

*KGO Radio had Maureen Langan on Wednesday night talking about the election which is sort of like Chef Ryan Scott talking about Brexit.

*I remember the days when there was at least one TV/Radio/Print City Hall Reporter --now we have bread crumbles to cover Mayor Ed Lee which would have Herb Caen spitting out his Vitamin V martini.

*Melissa Caen: hey, PIX? Are you kidding? Lightweight is an understatement. More like molecule understudy. If this woman had any less substance she'd be a guest on the Ronnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn Owens show. (And after words, Ronn would try to pull a Donald on her.)

*Wait a minute, now that I think of it, Ronn had a little issue with a brunette a few years back.

*I've been an on-and-off customer at North Beach Restaurant but since I don't wear short-sleeve Italian shirts and bring in guys like Byron Allen, I don't get the Lowenstein treatment.

*Ronnnnnnnnn was quite boastful on the air the other day that both his daughters were voting for Trump.  I have nothing else to say.

*KGO Radio: the halfway house for the "next generation" of derelict radio people.

*Yeah, while I was in bed suffering from CoughRunnyNoseFlu Diaspora, I caught Cheryl Jennings co-anchoring the 5 at KGO-TV. The only thing I could think of was that they needed a body and Cheryl was around noshing a bagel so...

*Paulie Mac: Darwin was wrong.

*Larry Baer: 2017 agenda item: "I wonder if I could install ATM machines inside the bathrooms at AT&T?" --I'm not kidding.

*The Raiders are NEVER going to Vegas. Bet on it.

*Greg Papa doesn't like me saying he's making a little south of a million bucks but sorry Pop, it's news. Courtesy, Comcast, Raiders, Entercom. That's enough to pay his and Raddy's overhead combined.

  2. Welcome back Rich, I couldn't be happier, the World sucks without your daily input!!

Did I read that right, you got a flu shot and then got sick a couple of weeks later, if that is correct the shot made you sick!

I had posted this before....I'm 70 and the last time I got the flu I was 21, just out of the military, I got a flu shot from my new employer. Haven't had the flu in 49 years because I have never had a flu shot in the last 49 years! Getting old and all you hear is it is extremely important for old people to get the shot. Am I going to get a shot, hell no!! It's been 49 years and I still remember how sick I got, I was laid up for an entire week.

    1. You don't get sick from a flu shot. You may get a couple of mild symptoms but you can't get sick from something not alive. That's not how viruses work. You get sick when the VIRUS takes over your body to make more virus till it wears yo ass out. Vaccines are DEAD so there's nothing in the vaccine to take over your cells and make you sick (wear yo ass out replicating itself). Even the live attenuated virus is... well attenuated (made basically impotent) so as to not make sick... but the live attenuated vaccine is not being used this year sooooo... just some info against old wives tales :)

    2. 11:50...When I got to military bootcamp in San Diego first thing I received was a bunch of shots. Before each of my two deployments to the Vietnam war I was directed to go to the Dispensary and received some more shots. Never had any adverse reaction to any of the shots I received during my 4 years in the Navy.

Got out of the Navy, age 21, about as healthy as I could be! Got a job at NAS Alameda and a few weeks later received a flu shot at the base dispensary. About a week later I got sick, really sick, I still remember, it was horrible, I had "never" experienced anything like that before!

I never get sick, never! Except for a case of food poisoning about ten years ago, I can honestly say the last time I was sick was when I was 21 and got the flu shot. Don't know if it's genetics, can't recall my parents ever getting sick. Spent years working around nuclear radiation stuff, maybe that's the answer, don't know. I don't drink alcohol. Your immune system protects you and alcohol attacks your immune system, maybe that is the answer. The flu shot made me sick!! Will be 71 next March.

    3. I'm 76. Get a flu shot every year. Haven't had the flu since 1958.

You ex-GI whiners sound like a bunch of pussies.

  3. Darya this morning"THATS how you handle that" about Tom Brady walking out on a question about Trump. Brady known as a big Trump supporter-right?
    She admired THAT?
Must be how she handles "How do you support that ass Raddy?" questions.

  4. Wait till Nexstar tells Raddy that he has to start shooting his ouw stuff...@$20 per hour.
Nexstar won't honor nor be forced to assume his contract in the merger.

  5. I've really enjoyed Nevius's sports and political writing through the years. I don't know if anyone remembers the local roundtable TV sports show he had for a few years. Lowell Cohn, Glenn Dickey and Dave Newhouse rounded out the crew. Like ESPN's Sunday morning show, the Sports Reporters. I emailed him today and told him how much I enjoyed his columns.

    1. At one time when San Francisco had the Examiner and Chronicle, readers were fortunate to have legitimate journalists who could read, research, and write intelligent articles. The Oakland Tribune, and San Jose Mercury were legitimate, too. I read the Washington Post, New York Times, and LA Times for in-depth news online. SF Gate is a joke!

  6. Maureen Langan is almost as bad as Chip and his sidekick. All rather unlistenable for more than three minutes.

    Hope you feel better, Rich.

  7. C.W. Nevius will be missed. Nice guy . . . I trained him on how to use the blog software when I worked at SFGate.

As I suspected, not a single mention by the morning frat boys about the Sharks' season opener last night. Not even in Kate T. Scott's Top Six, nor in any of the updates. I called KNBR and was told they didn't mention it because they didn't want to highlight a competitor. Huh? So even though you're THE Sports Leader, and the Sharks are a Bay Area sports team AND defending conference champs, you don't dare mention their title defense is starting for fear someone might (gasp!) listen to the game on another station? WTF?

    Ummmm . . . okay, Beavis . . . whatever . . .

She finally stopped the constant on air checking of her eye phone, and I might add hasn't spoken in tongues for weeks now.
She might do that AFTER the news..lol..

  9. As I JUST reviewed this week's flu report for CA, you probably had a bad COLD not flu. There is barely any flu floating around here right now. Our model has us at 'sporadic' (CDC calls us 'minimal'). Glad you got your flu shot tho and glad you feel better so you can provide us with some muckety muck. Just being snarky in sharing that data :)

  12. Nevius leaving is a bad sign for the Chronicle. Now sfgate.com can take over the content for that piece of shit. Meaningful journalism is now just an afterthought. Shame.

KNBR's programming will now consist of constant Giants replays from those other even-numbered years. Now the Giants know what to do with all of those #BeliEVEN tshirts. Just give them to KNBR for a giveaway. Maybe a recipient will get smart and use it as a doormat like the restaurant owner did to Kaepernick's jersey.

You can be sure KNBR will talk very little about the Raiders or the Warriors or even the Sharks because they're not on their station. They'll blast the airwaves with projections of the Giants bullpen in 2017. Puke. Thanks to KNBR, I'm no longer a Giants fan. Good job alienating this fan Larry "Putz" Baer. Shalom!

    1. Today, I heard the first Forty Niners Vignette with Ted Robinson. How many third and outs can they do to make up for losing the Warriors broadcasts?

  13. Yeah, I was also surprised to see Cheryl Jennings the other day co-anchoring the news. As you said though, they seemed to need an anchor and amazingly, from all the spare anchors they have lying around, I guess nobody else was available! But, as much as I never really did like Cheryl Jennings anyway, I Do have to admit that she did the news like she had never been away at all. She did do a good job, I have to admit.

  14. CW Nevius is not leaving on his own accord.
    He is being forced out.
Most likely because of his age.

  15. I am a legit viewer that thinks Raj Mathai is a great anchor. He is personable, confident and can make the transition from serious to fun with ease. Who are the other people that think they can be #1? It would be a dumb mistake...

    1. Me too, I like Raj. His English and delivery is/are outstanding. I wish he would come over to my West County area and teach the people from India who own three Subway sandwich shops how to speak English, I cannot understand a thing they say.

Everyone needs to learn sign language so we can understand each other and communicate more efficiently. I get tired of pointing to all the stuff I want on my sandwich!!

  16. I did it again. On my blog I wrote about Trump and his woman in the past on the 29th of September and said he should name Charlie Sheen as VICE president.

The Trump tape story broke on October 6th

Find another blogger or any columnist who did that. Just like my Billy Beane step down and my Nancy Snyderman ego calls.
    How do I do it?...genius!

  19. Anne Makovec is perhaps the greatest asset KPIX has in its pocket. No way they're going to let her go. She shows up and performs with ease and integrity. Fills in as a great anchor on the morning show, and kicks ass in the field. She might be in play, but smart people would never let her go. Worked with her some time ago and know her compass is pure and true. She's one of the last true, objective, & able broadcast journalists we have have in the market.

  21. Since his post seems to be all over the place...I offer this comment. I ran into Shann Nix (now Shann Jones) on Monday night. She's visiting family in the same north bay town I live in and we have always frequented the same restaurants/bars. She's alive and well, has a 19 year-old daughter and is raising goats in the Welsh countryside. She did ask me, "What the hell happened to KGO?" I didn't, really, have an answer.

  22. CW Nevius being forced to 'retire'. So, now we get more Beth Spotswood. In her review of a recent Tom Jones concert, she stated he closed his show with his big hits...including 'Mama Told Me (Not to Come)'. WTF?? That's not one of his 'hits'.

  28. With the Giants' season now done, at least we're spared the indignity of having to listen to the inane blatherings of 'Amy G,' truly one of the most vapid, insignificant sidelights of the Giants' TV broadcasts. Her cutesy stories are not only annoying and interrupt the flow of the game, but you'd think she would at least improve her abilities on the air. She's gotten slightly better, but it's sad and a disservice to other women who are trying to get into the media that folks such as her and Kate Scott get a relatively high profile, just because they're women. Give me Mindy Bach or when they was still around, Jaymee Sire and Katie Longworth. Those gals are actually real broadcasters and sportscasters.
