Not a Happy Election Night at KTVU/Fox2; Somerville Goes Ballistic When Wrong Script Lists Harris as 'DA in SF'; Wednesday Opener

Not a happy Election Night at KTVU, I'm sure it'll be a lousy morning meeting around the offices, and a star anchor is still royally PISSED off.

Someone --probably an inept news writer, wrote a script that said Kamala  Harris "is the DA in San Francisco" and it LEADS the Newscast.

Uh, WRONG!

The underlying problem at KTVU is that the Foxified management does not know the area or their viewers. Mistakes like this should never happen. Never.

Frank Somerville had to come back after the commercial break and apologize --how pissed off was Frank? He went BALLISTIC and was FURIOUS according to my KTVU source. So furious in fact he was told by a manager to calm down.

Meanwhile, other than that, it was a lovely evening in Jack London Square.

Just not at Fox2.

Ouch.

  1. Why is this shocking? It's not just at Fucks2. It's everywhere. There's no attention to detail. It's hurry up and get it done. No pride in labor any more. Blame management. You get what you pay for. Why should anyone care when they're not making decent wages? Fuck it, outsource the whole news operation to India.

    1. Exactly. According to Rich tho it's that mean old FOX's fault.

    2. Not making decent wages? Senior writers/slash producers can make anywhere between $85-$95K (100K+ with OT) a year.

  2. Hey Frankie: Take a deep breath. Look at that photo of the Hawaiian islands on your desk. Watch an episode of Dr. Phil. Go post something on your Facebook page. And then STFU.

  6. I'd be pissed too - not because it made me look bad, but it makes the organization look bad when they mess up on an office title on someone running in a major California political race. I do marcom for a major tech company, and it's my philosophy that even my work carries through to the products the company makes. It may not even be conscious on the part of the reader, but I don't what people to see a spelling or grammatical error and subconsciously ask themselves, "If these kind of errors can happen in the marketing materials, does it also happen in the product manufacturing?" They're not related, but they are - in cases like this, KTVU's credibility goes down.

"I don't what people to see..."

Uh...looks like you have a grammatical error/typo there, bud.

  7. While that's undoubtedly a major blunder, why didn't Frankie check his script before air?

You'll never catch Catherine Heenan making a mistake like that, because she reads all her material prior to the show and rewrite about 70 percent to weed out the errors.

  9. Hey Frank, chill the fuck out! Just remind yourself how sexy you look with those golden hair plugs.

  10. They also had a blurb on mornings on 2 that "polls open at 8 PM".

  11. Maybe Frank got a swallow of the kind of errors we the viewers see everyday from KTVU. Welcome to the club Frank...now, what are you going to do about it?

  12. It's not like it was a foreign pronunciation; why couldn't he see the error in the prompter and say the right thing. Anchors do it all the time... the writing sucks out here.

  13. He was really upset that Randy Shandobil was on KRON4

  14. Their coverage sucked but HH looked scrumptious. And shouldn't Frank have caught that?

  15. The guy should cool his jets, he is likely unemployable in any other industry or in a real job.

  16. Is there video of this anywhere? It wouldn't be on the KTVU site, of course, but someone may have caught it and posted on a publicly-viewable personal page.
