While Brussels Was Under Siege KGO Radio Ran a Taped Ronnnnn Owens Show From 2015

IF YOU NEED FURTHER EVIDENCE THAT KGO RADIO IS A JOKE, TAKE EARLY TUESDAY MORNING.

While the initial reports of the Belgium terror attacks began coming in, KGO was running repeats of a syndicated show. OK, so we're not surprised, it's KGO...as the news became more gruesome and the death toll began increasing, KGO was asleep at the wheel.

Past 4 AM, KCBS began going wall-to-wall with the ongoing developments in Brussels. KCBS went to its CBS Radio network coverage and began switching to Sky News, which had reporters on scene describing the horrific scene at the airport and train station.

By this time, the seriousness of what had happened was evident; the gravity of the situation was clear; the attacks were perpetrated most likely by suicide bombers and some Americans were among the casualties.

Meanwhile, KGO Radio, your "News" station was, GET THIS, running a TAPED, "Best of Ronn Owens" program, I swear to God. Owens was talking about the "most important news events of 2015"...so while Brussels was besieged, KGO was running a taped Ronnnn show from December, 2015.

Way to cover news, KGO. Wonder if the ND was sleeping. Who's minding the store?

You would think someone with half a brain in the newsroom listening would have taken the initiative to cut to KGO's in-house news service, CNN Newsfeed, to cover their ass, but NO, the yahoos in the newsroom (who were there to begin the 5 AM Morning News) didn't do shit. Maybe they were busy with their granola and house coffee.

What a joke.

    1. And during all of this, Lowenstein wets his pants & rubs his hands in glee, knowing he'll get extra $ for KGO running a taped program of his.

  2. The Millennial assignment editor would have to know where Brussels was.

Or *what* it was. (They probably think it's an alternative band.)

    1. What an idiot!
Everyone knows that Brussels is next to Artichokes.

    2. The Millennial assignment editor was probably listening to KGO for any breaking news...

    3. No millennial would ever listen to KGO. In other news, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford passed away. I'm in mourning.

    4. That would likely be Copies daughter who is clueless.

  3. This is a great example of just how irrelevant radio has become for news. It is never my first go-to when something is happening. As odd as it to say, Twitter usually has the first hint of something happening, then the internet & TV. Radio just isn't part of the equation anymore for news.

    1. Millennial? Angela corral is 40 years old. Not sure where this info is coming from, but check your facts.

  4. I sincerely don't understand all the aspersions towards millennials on this blog. My brother and I are in our mid-50s and we were just talking about how much more our kids know than we did at our ages. While they may lack the ability to focus on one subject like we did, they are much better at multi-tasking (scientifically proven, by the way) and technology is intuitive with them vs. learned, like my brother's and my generation. There's a lot of "don't walk on my lawn" attitude about how millennials are changing the media landscape, for better or worse. Because the news cycle is so much more accelerated there's bound to be more mistakes in the learning curve in dealing with that.

    1. Agreed, but I think we were a lot more like them than some people realize.

  5. I turned on KGO this morning to hear Pat Thurston talking to some guy about those mean old Republicans in the 9 o'clock hour. After he spewed his diatribe and she acted so so shocked, she mentioned, "I have many people on the phones that want to talk about Belgium so I'm going to go". "But please email me all of the information you mentioned (about those mean old Republicans)".

    KGO, biased talk eight tennnnnnnnnnnn

    1. I don't understand. Was Pat on or was it a Ronn recording?

    2. Ronn recording was early AM to fill airtime. Pat was in for Ronn today during his normal 9 to 12 timeframe. She will be in tomorrow as well.

    3. Donnn. go to 560 KSFO if you want wall to wall Contard talk. I hope KGO turns more and more progressive. It's hard to find that anywhere now.

    4. 10:39am there's a reason you don't find Libdiot talk anywhere anymore.

    1. Yeah we have a new guy who doesn't do anything. It's great. Tell me why Paul Hosley had to get fired? What has changed? I bet it's just a matter of cutting salaries. Paul made X, Ron Escarsaga makes X-10, Kevin Metheny makes X-15, Mike Anthony makes X-30.

  7. Is Ronn back in the hospital again? He has been out since last Thursday and Pat T. is filling in this week. I think it is time for him to retire.

  8. I found a place the staff will fit in. Good Day on Ch 44 from the Sacto CBS affiliate was discussing how to make your candy Easter Bunny a car out of a twinkie instead of covering anything. They should just transfer over there it is a perfect fit.

  9. Brussels Belgium is being terrorized.
And Barrack Obama was sitting idly watching a minor league baseball game with dictators.

  10. Uh, hold on just a second @9:47AM. The jury is undecided on whether multi-tasking is good or bad. Many studies show that it is not productive. According to a few recent studies, it damages your brain as well as your career. But since we all live in a society that practically demands multi-tasking - well, there you go.

As for the Millennials. Well, like all the other demographics that we've created and named - there are good ones and bad ones. My argument is not so much "against" Millennials. I think what a lot of us bitch about on this blog is the overwhelming and unceasing pace at which media in particular has kicked anyone over 40 to the curb. What does wisdom, experience, accumulated knowledge, maturity and accuracy have to do with anything? There sure as hell won't be any more Walter Cronkites or Peter Jennings ever again - 65 years old and 67 years old respectively. Since all Millennials are masters of multi-tasking and social media, I suppose it just makes sense to let them run the show.

  12. Hit KGO where it hurts ..... the few advertisers they have.
DO NOT PATRONIZE ..... Mercedes Benz of San Francisco.....etc....etc
    KGO is almost done.

  13. There is nobody in KGO to flip the switch. The board op is probably asleep and the "editors"??? a couple of millennials who sit and watch TV or update their social media pages.
Plus commenting negatively on a muslim terror attack would not fit the template for the KGO Obama acolytes. They were too busy covering Buhrock doing the wave with a communist dictator.

  14. KGO should have their license yanked, suspended or fined for that nonsense. These are public airwaves and KGO's license designation is apparently listed as "news" format. Don't want to do the news ?? -- move over to taped music !
from KGO's FB page Dec 2011....
"You may have heard about the changes we're making to our on-air lineup on KGO. After careful consideration we’ve determined our audience is looking for more news, which is why we are increasing our news presence throughout the day. The Ronn Owens program will continue to talk about current events and breaking news, and there will be talk shows on the weekends as well as on the sister station KSFO." huh...guess they decided 2015 was a better "news year".
