Death of Justice Antonin Scalia; KCBS' Marc Sandalow Provides Astute Analysis; 415 Media Saturday Breaker

Justice Antonin Scalia dead at age 79
IMMEDIATELY upon hearing the breaking news of the death of Supreme Court justice, Antonin Scalia, I turned on CNN and listened to analysis by legal pundit, Jeffrey Toobin, political adviser, David Gergen. Both had spot-on takes and provided a quick summation of Scalia's reach and power on the court and predictions on what lies ahead. (Both Toobin and Gergen said it would be highly unlikely President Obama could appoint a justice in this election year--he doesn't have the votes, for one)

After watching CNN and perusing Fox News Channel, I switched locally to KCBS and astute political analyst, Marc Sandalow, who offered keen insight on Scalia's legacy and influence on the court. He (Sandalow) also said it would be nearly impossible for Obama to get a more liberal appointee --given the timing --Sandalow offered the opinion that the next president would pick the justice.

It's news like this (breaking on a late Saturday afternoon) that we're fortunate enough to have KCBS' elite Washington political insider on the air.

  1. Thank God for KCBS!! On a side note, Pat Thurston will have John Rothmann on her show this evening to discuss Justice Scalia's passing. A glimmer of hope above the Oral Diahrrea Horseshit in abundance on KGO.

    1. Yes, and with God's guidance, hopefully we'll have another outstanding legal mind and person of character, as was Justice Scalia in order to replace him.

  2. I tuned into KGO at the same time. They were having a riveting discussion of vitamin D deficiency.

  3. You know right now, people like Weintraub & Lowenstein & others of their filth are rubbing their hands together with glee, like Mr Burns on The Simpsons, saying "Excellent!!"

    1. Pretty sure Burns is a Republican so you may want a better analogy even if you were only trying to appear hip by referencing a character that was developed over 20 years ago.

I know I was happy when I heard the news. Whatever it takes to get rid of someone like that.

    2. 1:44 completely missed the context. Dumbass.

    3. I'm sure the person pretty much flipped the script on the initial stupid comment and now you feel dumber for it. The irony of you using an obvious Republican cartoon character to make a point about liberals was pretty dumb.

  4. Death of a loved one, or not loved is soon forgotten by those left behind. We move on.
I was not a fan of Justice Scalia but I will not speak ill of him or his decisions.
You won't find anyone in the public eye at this time speaking against him or his effect on the country - just what a great jurist he was - that is how it should be.
    He'll be yesterday's news tomorrow.

Oh, please. Spare us the maudlin observations. Those familiar with his noxious decisions have--and will--speak ill of him, as it "should be."

  5. KSFO should bring back Barbara Simpson on the weekends. Replacing her was a huge mistake.

  9. I watched CNN and caught the end of John Rothman on KGO. I wish John was a regular somewhere other than KGO. Sorry, but Pat's interruptions and competing with John are irritating.

Rich, your blog is top notch... you gave Justice Scalia the tribute he deserves.

Betcha President Obama will do his best to nominate his replacement choices. He already made that comment tonight. Anyone he chooses will get blocked anyway, so more than likely a moot point.

    1. I miss Rothman during the election cycle. He's on Pat's show a lot lately, just like the Loya, Len Tillem, on Ronnnnnnn's show. Both of them got fired but are back on the air. Give them their old time slots back, stupid ass KGO.

  10. It is a shame that I have to listen to BBC radio for better coverage than anywhere on USA airwaves about our own elections. Today is a perfect example to illustrate how much kgo radio would still be relevant. Thank you dickey brothers and thank you Ronnnnnn Lowensteinnnnnnnnnn for giving us vitamin ads and real estate shows today!

  11. The gates of hell just flew wide open in eager anticipation of Scalia's arrival. I hope the Republicans block the President until Jan 21st 2017 so either Bernie or Hillary can appoint Obama to the court.

    1. Agree on both counts.
The GOP would be wise to approve whoever the President chooses (no doubt a moderate) because the next President will nominate someone much more to the left than Obama's choice.

  12. One of my friends jokingly suggested Obama appoint himself to the vacancy as he is a Harvard Educated JD and constitutional scholar...

  13. I would appoint Ted Cruz. He has no support in the Senate, the GOP establishment would breathe of relief, and it would open the race for the others. That said, since Cruz claims to be constitutional law expert, he would be forced to fish or cut bait. What is more valuable...being POTUS or having a lifetime appointment to the SCOTUS?

  14. Alex Jones officially declared that Scalia was murdered by the globalists who want to enslave us. Dick Lieberman, you interviewed Alex Jones while at KSCO. Your thoughts please....how much do you want to bet Michael Savage will make similar claims...
