  1. Wonderful video. Dad turned out a pretty fair singer in Natalie!

  2. Really sad. I saw her on Today recently and her voice was really low, you could tell she wasn't feeling well.
    Still quite a shock.
    RIP

Some open waters to crabbers IS big news to the public but it's not official to us local crabbers. Natalie is a sad story and worth a note. RIP

  5. Much too soon? She's lucky she made it to 65. Sad? Yes.

In 2000, Cole released an autobiography, Angel on My Shoulder, which described her battle with drugs during much of her life, including heroin and crack cocaine. Cole said she began recreational drug use while attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She was arrested in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, for possession of heroin in 1975. Cole continued to spiral out of control – including one incident where she refused to evacuate a burning building, and another where her young son Robert nearly drowned in the family swimming pool while she was on a drug binge. She entered rehab in 1983.

    1. Gotta agree with 8:53. Most people with her problems don't reach 65, including the Hep-C she had. She had two other siblings who died before she did. It is sad, but she's lucky she got to do what she did and live as long as she did. The fact that she was talented is beyond any debate.

    2. I'm glad to hear she overcame her addictions and was able to see great success before she passed.

  6. So Sad, we have lost a great R&B talent in Natalie Cole, but she is up there with her Father now, the great Nat King Cole. Godspeed Natalie, gone far too soon.

  7. It's very likely that many of Natalie's other family members could sing too. We wouldn't know about it, because both Natalie and her dad were in the upper eschelon of talent and stage presence.
Just learning how to sing that way was only a part of the picture.
You have to get used to working with musicians and stage hands who don't know your needs, or have decided they don't care about it.
It's not too surprising that many stars end of with substance abuse problems. They have multi-tons of disposable income, as 'artists' they are expected to be excentric or outrageous. Wild behavior can even sell the act in the early or late career stages.
Most of all, I like that Natalie was so secure as a singer and performer that she did not feel the need to go all 'raunchy like Rhianna or slutty Nikki Minaj. Thank you Natalie, for always being a lady onstage.

  8. Lemmy made it five years longer while swilling JD, smoking cigarettes and taking speed. He knew to stay away from heroin, though.
