Chatty KTVU MO2 Crew Saturday

Many of you come her for honesty from me in regards to Bay Area Media so I'm going to be honest today. Saturday's Weekend KTVU's Mornings on 2 was dorky. Too much talking. Way too much talking. I don't know if FOX people instructed the lads and lasses to be extra chatty but they sure seemed overly-wordy and giddy. By the way, Bill Martin, the normal weeknight weather guesser was filling in for Rosemary Orozco --I don't know if this was an experiment or something on the horizon, I'll have to check around. In any event, Martin seemed pretty excited. Maybe he's more relaxed on the weekend.

  1. If KTVU is going to keep the crappy (news?) format on Saturday morning at least they should rename the program to "Good Morning San Francisco" instead of calling it a news program. Rosemary Orozco is so boring--like watching paint dry--no personality.

    1. My wife and I increasingly find ourselves watching KPIX. Why? It's a highly polished product reminiscent of the old WJW in Cleveland before it gave up its CBS affiliation to WOIO. Yes...and corporate. CBS O-and-Os have more money than God but we're just sick of the amateurishness especially with regard to KRON.

You're right, Rosemary Orozco doesn't have a lot of screen presence.

    2. Rosemary Orozco has enough screen presence for me! Especially when she's wearing the long blue dress, but hell, I'd be happy to be in Mibach's position in the photo for this article...

  2. I've been noticing the 10 o'clock News has been repeating lots of weekday news stories on weekends lately.

There have also been a few instances recently where they've run relatively long (4-5 minute?) clips that look like promos for cheap YouTube documentaries. I can only imagine they're filler because the program was short on news stories. Last night it showed some kind of long video where someone was traveling around the country interviewing the poor. Pretty boring. A few months ago they showed what was supposedly a hilarious story about politics that looked like it was created by a smarmy college film student who was under the influence. When KTVU came back from the video, you could see that the anchors both looked angry and embarrassed about what was just shown.

    1. I saw those too. Fox is destroying what used to be the best station in the Bay Area.

    2. Anon at 9:07...this is so Fox can cut staffing...it is coming soon. Fox has a list of stories that all Fox O&O's run. Cheaper that way. Call it "repurposing".

    3. They did it again last night. They re-ran a story about a Stanford golfer that they showed a few nights before.

  4. The weekend AM news on 2 is just plain ridiculous most of the time. Mibach, Wong and Orozco seem to interact with each other as though they were on separate sets. The best - or worst - is when there's a cooking segment; it's bad from tech to talent. Cameras on chefs as they describe what they're doing, no food close ups, and the taste tests? These cooks must be awful because after the food is sampled there's NEVER any comments...watching this newscast is like watching a reality show: the viewer becomes voyeur and gets to feel a slight hit of superiority.

  5. Steve Paulson was on vacation last week and schedules were adjusted for coverage. I agree that weekend MO2 has become a chatty mess. Why aren't they interviewing? There are so many bay area issues to be explored instead of nonsense. MO2 weekdays has similar problems. Back when, Ross McGowan was always interviewing a mayor a police chief or some other newsmaker.

  6. It's going to take a little time while talent learns the new dance steps. The nice thing about FOX is that they will be somewhat flexible with the current people.

Personality is everything now. If you have a stick in the butt then be ready to look for another job.

It's really no secret to anyone that KTVU is being Foxified based on the formula that works elsewhere.

Except for a few 'quirks" the BA is being treated no different from other FOX O&O's.

Most(except WFLD) are doing very well.

KTVU still produces a superior product and it shows in ratings and dollars.

  7. Yet another reason why I have given up on watching the local news. The Bay Area had a great product. Keyword "had." You could watch the news and actually come away feeling like you learned something. This was especially true with the 10 PM news on channel 2. Now it's all the same and incredibly shallow. Stations run stupid YouTube videos on animals. Stories about what color a dress is. Crap about what some B-List actor or musician did on Twitter or Facebook. And then comes the daily list of silly car crashes that no one cares about, fires that barely did any damage to anything and the shooting de jour. It is all reported by a bunch of kids who look like they barely are old enough to buy a drink.

Channel 2 is just plain unwatchable. The chatter has gone overboard. Give me the news that affects us, not the banter. That's why Dennis Richmond was so good. You got the story without any of the crap. I can't wait for the next big earthquake. Actually hold that thought. The local stations will be too busy showing me the crazy video they found on the internet of the shaking and yapping about it while the entire Marina District sinks into the Bay.

  9. I don't watch much local news, either, but I'm WAAAY out of demo (older white male). They're trying to provide information that young females want to hear about in addition to "connecting" with them via the chit-chat. I understand this and I've seen how successful this has been in other markets (except Chicago, for some reason as another poster points out). It makes economic sense. That's OK; I'll go elsewhere and not necessarily on TV. There are a lot of choices to pick from out there now.

    1. Young people don't watch the news just like they don't read newspapers. But it doesn't stop the press from chasing a demo that doesn't care about them while turning away the audience that does. How does anyone get to be that damned dumb.

    2. That's what's interesting to me about KGO AM trying to chase that demo, also. It's ridiculous. Why don't they try to capture an audience of people that actually listen? Finding advertisers catering to that older crowd would be difficult, but finding advertisers for a demo with zero listeners might be impossible.

  11. I like Claudine Wong and Rosemary Orozco but I don't like that format.

It's way too forced, and they were all acting like they were BFF's!

  12. " There are a lot of choices to pick from out there now."

One thing I do to get away from all the bullshit is to just go to the TV station's website and pick up the news there. It takes about five minutes instead of wasting up to an hour of my life I'll never get back.

    1. Make sure you get this cork information on the A-block. It sounds like a lead to me,

  14. Well it is a format that needs the kinks worked out as some personalities work better at it than others. Claudine seems forced in her cheeriness, Mibach stiff but reliable, and Rosemary blends in well. When Mibach departs it will be interesting who will fill that seat.

  15. TV news is a dinosaur waiting to die. We can get all the news we want when we want it from multiple sources. We get news now as it happens and we make the decision on how to form our opinions not some ND or producer giving us their opinion.
