A KGO source told me that the idea that both are gone is a "strong indication" that the 7-10 PM "Evening News" is all but gone and that, as I've reported, a talk-show will replace that time.
Don't be surprised if it's a syndicated show, out of Cumulus, which would further make "live and local" a joke that it's become.

The Dickies strike again! Can these guys build anything? They're very good at destroying things but can't build shit. Why don't they just cut to the chase, fire everybody and run infomercials 24/7. That's the end game anyway!
ReplyDeleteWhat's mattress man's take on this move? Let me guess: "I'm very excited by this move. We needed to do something. We are now number 30 in the ratings. I think you're going to like it too. Now let's talk about my latest iPhone 6..."

Yeah but he used to run news/talk before they stupidly brought in the misogynistic moron Randall Bloomquist. Mahanay was probably expecting Bloomquist to implode and prove himself to be the colossal failure that everybody, except Mike Mcvay, already knew was.
Maybe Peter Finch can return to KFOG morning program. The more the merrier.
ReplyDelete@12:04 Since KFOG is also a Cumulus owned station, that would be highly unlikely...
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting the official email was sent by the Head of the Sports Programming Dept. Thanks Rich for the heads up.
ReplyDeleteDavid K.
That's because they don't have a Head of News/Talk since Blloomquist resigned.
DeleteIs it any wonder the Tom Leykis show is more profitable than cumulus and iHeart combined? These dumb asses don't know the radio business. The Dickey wrecking ball is aimless! Just bashing whatever is in front of it. Btw, does anyone know what happened to Kim Mccallister? Huge fan of her voice.
ReplyDeleteI've heard Kim reporting from the field frequently lately - early morning fires, etc. - but I'm not sure if she has an on-air news "slot" from the news-room any longer. I've always liked her. Hell - I've always liked a LOT of people on KGOne - but sadly, many of them are KGOne!!
DeleteKim is still working on KGO mornings Monday - Friday as a reporter.
DeleteKim is still a full time employee. She works on the mornings.
Delete*Tom Leykis’s 2014
Delete"Little Internet Project"* NET:+$2,187.00.
CUMULUS NET: +$159.34 Million.
iHeartMedia NET: -$204.2 million.
http://bit.ly/OneDollarProfitResults .
To be clear, $2,187 is more than the total of $159.34 million MINUS $204.2 million. In other words, $2,187 is more than MINUS $44.86 million. In other words, the Leykis Show was "more profitable than iHeartMedia and Cumulus combined."
DeleteWe all need jobs. Sometimes you have to work and deal with an *ssh*le of a boss, or an evil empire of an employer. When you realize your in a bad situation, it's best to have multiple back up plans.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fucked up, corporate email. That Jim guy sounds like an asshole. Hopefully Finch lands on his feet, he's a good guy.
ReplyDeleteCould NEVER get around Mr. Finch's exaggerated voice.
ReplyDeleteWTF?! Are the Dick's of Cum the next Koch Brothers?!
ReplyDeleteI'm hesitant to say this, because of my deep and abiding hatred of Cumulus, but I actually hold out a modicum of hope for the evening slot. I'm keenly aware that my hope, however slender, may very well be dashed. But, hope springs eternal.
ReplyDelete- The hired Angie Coiro, who is very good. Granted, they reduced her meager time slot ... but, at least they hired her. If they were to put her in 7-10, they would re-gain a lost listener.
- I'm beginning to enjoy Chip Franklin, in the afternoon. A friend suggested that might be the result of satisfaction at expectations that have been abysmally
lowered. But, I never reached that level with any other Cumulus-hired talkers (except Angie).
I'm sorry for Peter Finch, and Lisa Campbell. I never met either one of them - having left the station years ago. But, as Lee Rogers used to say, "If you're in broadcasting, you either HAVE been fired, or you WILL BE fired."
If they haven't already pissed off Angie Coiro enough to quit, she would be a good replacement for Ronn Owens when he finally retires. Until then put her on at night. When Cumulus had reporters in Dallas handle news & traffic nights and weekends, it was obvious that local anchors were at risk.
DeleteDo you people remember what good radio even was? These people are nobodies! They've been around the business for years and to what end?!?
DeleteThey haven't developed a talent in decades and the syndicated names are just as bad.
There is so little going on in talk radio it's a complete wasteland. Angie Coiro? Chip Franklin? This is what we're discussing? Sheesh.
Let us face it AM has long been dead and that is the good news. I can not feel bad for people who have stuck around a #30 in the ratings station and are surprised when the Dicky's strike. The next best thing always kills outmoded forms of Business and AM is no longer a viable business model.
ReplyDeletei really enjoyed Lisa Campbell...very sorry to see her go...
ReplyDelete7-10 Talk.
ReplyDeletePut Christine or Angie in there at night.
I have a feeling it will be Pat Thurston. I cant stand her whiny voice. She's just awful.
I've got my money on all infomercials at night soon.
ReplyDeleteThree things that I learned working in Radio: 1.) You may have a secure gig but keep looking 2.) Get "FU" Money and 3.) Don't buy a house!!
ReplyDeleteNeed to disagree Eric...if you get into radio first thing buy a house in a good zip code....keep it...rent it when you take the next gig and then sell it for a zillion dollars at the end of your career. It's working for a few radio friends I know....
DeleteDamned those profitable Dickey's...lol, buy the station lame assed if you don't like the direction it is going
ReplyDeleteProfitable? What are you smoking? They're drowning in billions of dollars of debt dummy!
DeleteWasn't KGO MORE profitable with higher ratings before Cumulus raped and killed it?!
DeleteNEXT!
Maybe Jim Bohannon will pick up the 7:00PM to 10:00PM slot. He is syndicated by Cumulus owned Westwood One. While she is too liberal for me, Christine Craft is a very good broadcaster and she would also be a good local fit in that time slot.
ReplyDeleteBad company, bad people who run the company, and bad news for KGO listeners. I wish companies such as Cumullus would just go away and drown in their own muck. They are a symptom of what is wrong in our society today. They don't care about the people who work at their stations; they have zero loyalty. Loyalty? That's a word that doesn't exist in their vocabulary. They have zero interest in serving the public with quality programming? They may as well repeat what a rich 19th century baron once said: "the Public be damned!" Well, damn you Dick-Heads!
ReplyDeletewhat's KGO?
ReplyDeleteOnce upon a time, Sonny, back in the Dark Ages (of course we can’t call it that now with Al Sharpton running around), instead of mp3 players people listened to something called radio. It was kind of like a crippled version of a smartphone internet stream. The really old kind of radio was AM radio, and it crackled and buzzed a lot but it was all people had, and so they listened. KGO was once a hallowed member of the San Francisco AM radio community, and it had a lot of reach in the region, but now it’s dogshit. It accelerated its way into shittydom due to the total incompetence of the owners and their disdain for the local listening audience.
DeleteI don't think it will be Christine Craft even though I love her as she has a day job as an attorney. I would love to see Angie or Pat either one get the job even though I never listen to week night radio. Maybe on weekends I listen a night or two a month when my wife is in San Francisco visiting her Father. We live in Elk Grove. Of course on weekend nights it is the king of fucktards Karel. I sometimes listen to him anyway.
ReplyDeleteBring on Angie. Thoughtful and provocative. She knows how to do this talk radio thing better than any of the other options for sure. I'd welcome the addition of a nightly talk show as opposed to recycled news and farmed out traffic reports.
ReplyDeletePeter Finch's Facebook profile shows that he became friends with Jack Swanson this afternoon. Interesting timing.
ReplyDeleteYou what this all spells, if you've been in radio long enough to know the dysfunctional writing on the wall it will lead to a administrative collapse at KGO all bets are off the station has sunk to number 30 and will cease to exist as we know it only to be satellited to death. Richie's right "Live and Local" is toast on this station. The only thing that could save it now is someone at Cumulus with some sense step in and make it Newstalk again with local shows not going happen and their not going to spend any money. What a shame a work of art of a station at one time now in the dumper
