Janice Huff is an almost 20-year weather meteorologist forecasting on NY's WNBC. Huff, it's been reported by Newsblues, (paywall), might be on her way out at the NBC outlet.
From News Blues: "Early Retirement" is what it's being called, but it really isn't. Her contract simply isn't being renewed." She, (Huff), isn't alone.
Huff, you may recall, was at KRON in the late 80's and early 90's where she built up a friendship with sports anchor, Gary Radnich.
Huff isn't saying anything for now. Her situation isn't all that different from other veteran, well-paid TV anchors, weather and sports reporters being shown the door by cost-conscious broadcasting companies that are increasingly doing away with big names.

I thought you had a "truce" with Radnich? or was it Owens? I can't keep tract.
ReplyDeleteRich reached Détente with Sadnich a few months back. It appears detente was al dente and is no more considering the lawyering up I'm noticing.
DeleteMethinks friendship means something other than friendship. Who can explain for us?
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world does her friendship with Gary Radnich have to do with this story?
ReplyDeleteYour "comments and opinions" statement is incorrect. Since you moderate the comments and make decisions about what is posted, you are expressly responsible for what is seen.
ReplyDeleteIf, as one of four meteorologists at WNBC, Janice Huff is not being renewed (no such thing has yet been said at the paywall News Blues,) maybe she can do Customer Service for Comcast. After yesterdays viral outrage about Comcast and how it won't lighten up on cancelling customers, she might just fit in. It is, however after 20 years as one of New York's most recognizable weather guessers that she is, on the sake of a "Two of WNBC's meteorologists about to be shown the door," is guessing, not confirmed ... yet.
DeleteHope she comes back, she is a sweetheart.
ReplyDeleteThe story I heard when I was an intern at KRON in the late 90s was that Radnich and Huff were allegedly having an affair, and Huff's husband found out about it. It blew up and KRON management found her a promotion in New York, telling network brass "she's going to take down our biggest star if you don't get her out of here." Huff has been with WNBC ever since.
ReplyDeleteUndoubtedly this is what Lieberman was getting at by mentioning Radnich in this piece.
DeleteKind of pathetic to be publishing this type of gossip, decades later.
Jesus, who HASN'T Radnich allegedly had an affair with?
DeleteI find it difficult to believe KRON was in a position to tell network brass anything. Sounds like idle gossip to me.
DeleteAll I can tell you is that it came during a discussion in the sports department with two longtime KRON employees who were very, very close to him. (And he wasn't close to many people there -- the guy was in the office for about a half hour before the 6:00 sports cast and ditto for the 11:00. Most nights, he spent a total of an 60-90 minutes there). One of them had also had a personal discussion with the station manager at the time, (someone who Rich has gone after in his leadership of another local news dept in the past year or so), who confirmed that Huff essentially received a promotion to New York as a part of this. Remember, this was a time when Radnich was making $1+ million between KRON and KNBR and who had mega star quality in the bay area media (before KRON lost NBC), long before his act, shtick and insecurity became played, tired and boring.
DeleteHow is this news (gossip) if you are attributing it to someones else unconfirmed ramblings? She signed a lengthy contract with WNBC a while ago.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not unconfirmed. This came from two people in the sports department that were very close with him.
DeleteHard to imagine more than one woman in the world, would want to have sex with Radish.
ReplyDeleteGood to see John Kessler back anchoring at WENY TV NEWS in upstate New York....
ReplyDeleteRadnich had a taste for dark meat back in the day!
ReplyDeleteYou what they say........
ReplyDeleteI'd tune in to the Raddsnitch show to see if he has any sort of reply to this piece but I don't have the time nor patience to sit through the commercials.
ReplyDeleteSo Rich…where's the follow up on this story? It seems you love spreading the dirt, but won't clean it up when it's wrong!
ReplyDeleteWhat's there to clean up? This was common knowledge in the industry back then.
