Sterling Controversy Up Front; Radnich Weirdness at KRON Last Night; KTVU Does 'Investigative Report' on Lack of Yellow Crime Tape in Oakland, I'm Not Kidding; Ted Robinson Will Do 49ers Pre-Season Games on KPIX; KGO-TV Trixie Anxiety; Wednesday Media Mashed and Hashed

By now, everyone on the planet knows the Sterling story. It's had its imprint on the national news and sports cycle for five days. We're not through with it mind you, probably a few more days on the domain before we get our next TMZ-style bonanza.

We've become accustomed to the sensational and outrageous only the media environment in which we live has led to the mighty overblown sensation.

It's a phenomena where we are provided with the initial story--we view it; we react; and then the story stays with us via the Internet and cable and we're intrigued for a start; obviously glued to some degree; and when said story involves sex, (Sterling GF), bigotry, (Sterling's feelings about Black people), and some side events, we gravitate toward it.

Then we sort of move beyond and get sick of it. Are you sick enough already? Have you moved forward? I have. Maybe it's the sign of the times. Truly, racism didn't begin with Donald Sterling and it won't end there either. Institutional, systemic racism, the heart and soul of this story, is at the center of the storm--always has been, but think of it. Does anyone believe this tale would have received the uber-coverage it has had not Sterling's histrionics had a younger, sexual, convenient participant named V. Stiviano? Enter TMZ. Enter us. Enter America. Before the next scandal.

*The idea of sending a news reporter down to Staples Center made perfect sense until it was obvious there was very little demonstrators. KTVU sent Heather Holmes for some live shots which amounted to essentially, well nothing. A good shot of the outside of the Staples Center and a few palm trees.

*If you thought I was hard on 'yous all you might want to read this.

*Something truly bizarre, disturbing and mysterious to the max took place at KRON last night before the 11 PM newscast. At best, it involved some electronic problems that affected the master control, which affected sports. At worst, it most severely ticked off Gary Radnich who, looking flustered and spent, signed off his sportscast with an ominous look and this: "We had a problem here tonight, (facial gloom), nothing big, but that's it." Quick second and bye-bye. It looked weird and sullen, even by KRON standards. We're checking.

*KTVU did a special investigative report the other night, (highlighted by about 5 teases), on, get this, the lack of crime tape--that's CRIME TAPE, you know, the yellow stuff? So 2 does a much-ballyhooed seven minutes on the lack of yellow crime tape in Oakland. It was one of the worst examples of "investigative journalism" I've ever seen; in fact, unintentionally funny. I suppose a hard-hitting piece on crime and murders in the city wasn't sexy enough but the lack of crime tape was somehow worthy of seven minutes. Crime tape? Who cares?!! Holy-FUK indeed.

*Even if the News Director at KGO-TV thinks the sea has calmed down she's dreaming. Dear Tracey: Your "leadership" has allowed a wall to take place inside the newsroom: those that love you, those that tolerate you and the main ingredient: how everyone says the siege mentality has become really out in the open. Normally when that takes place you sort of try to rally the troops. Only, according to my spies, nobody respects what you have to say lately. Gees, I wonder why.

*That well-known local pizza chain that departed when Ralph Barbieri was fired from KNBR, is back on the station and The Razor is none-too-pleased and I'm being diplomatic. Hold the anchovies.

*As I write this it's windier than hell and gonna be hot today in the hills. Cue live shots away from the "Storm Desk" and head to the Oakland Hills and interview neighbors and Fire Dept. officials.

*I had lunch on Tuesday with Ted Robinson who told me he's going to do the 49ers TV pre-season games and that most likely, Bob Fitzgerald, would do radio on KNBR. Just the pre-season.

*I'm walking the other day down California near Battery and a horde of yuppie techs were completely glued, face down, to their IPhones--no wonder a pedestrian gets killed everyday in this crazy city!

*While every concerned citizen and arbiter of race relations paid attention to the Sterling controversy every male in America was busy checking out V. Stiviano and inquiring to each other, "Would you do her?" I'm just being honest.

*The problem with Radnich on radio when it comes to matters like Sterling is that he wants you to believe he's serious about the matter but always tries to inject humor--his brand of humor, into the matter. Problem is when the other two players in the studio don't think it's funny it sounds really bad --almost as bad as the ridiculous traffic sounders blaring relentlessly in the background--the "producer" thinks that's cool. Poor soul.

  1. Of course Rich Lieberman disapproves of the way others covered this story. Now he says it was overdone. Of course he's always ready to complain that some story wasn't given sufficient coverage. But one way or other, only Rich Lieberman knows the appropriate coverage a news story deserves.

Oh, and Rich doesn't like the way Gary Radnich handled this story. That's a shock. Get ready for Stan to add his routine Radnich screed.

    1. I am a Radnich fan, but one of his classic passive-aggressive moves is, ask listeners to call in about any topic, then when someone calls in with passion, Gary makes fun of the caller "Hey man, lighten up, this is just for shits and grins, I guess you haven't gotten laid in a while hahaha..."

Gary - you can't have it both ways; if you open up a topic, let the callers weigh-in without getting insulted.

On second thought, maybe I'm not that big of a fan ...

    Couple things:
Amici's has been advertizing on the radio and TV for months now, really bad spots with Bruce Bochy come to mind.
Yellow crime tape in Oakland. I wish I was the salesperson for it, the commissions alone for the Oakland, Richmond and San Leandro sales would be quite a chuck of scrilla.
    V. Stiviano looks like a tranny from Asia SF, not my style. Not that there is anything wrong with that Rich.
Re the hit piece on SF, noticed an thumbnail article on right of story for "Building a Better Blowjob Machine"---now I know how Rich found the SF story.

  6. Yes,and the way the local big money puts Radnich on for hours a day, every day? Somebody has to be a critic. And yes,Kate Scott said virtually nothing..only when asked, and Radnich never asked. You could tell Monday,Radnich plan was..denounce Sterling THEN go after the woman who brought down the man Radnich admires for his personal wealth. It was ONLY when the emails, and the non support of his sidekicks made it a hot topic, that Radnich backed off...fast. When he tried to pull that garbage on Pam Moore and Nate Thurmond with his best "If you love me,you will agree" pleadings..he still got a slap. And good for all those who did put Radnich in his place.
I cant see how the liberal bay area gets these rightwing nuts like Radnich and all the rest to spew their 1864 views of the world all day long. Whats become of us due to the giant media corporation propaganda? Its like a handbrake on progress. I hate them. All of them.

What I wrote has everything to do with this topic that includes Radnich.
Funny,Radnich gets angry at an unknown KRON producer..it gets a blog topic. Radnich says on air,he happily breaks the law?. That's not a topic.

But Gary respects and admires Jerry West and most certainly did NOT "make fun" of him.

Once again, Stan hears what he wants to hear.

Those of us interested in what Radnich has to say can listen to his show. Those who aren't interested can not-listen. But there is no conceivable reason to believe Stan's ridiculous version about what Radnich has said.

  11. V. Stiviano is attractive in an exotic Victoria's Secret kind of way. I can see her sitting poolside in a red robe made of feathers and lace. She has confidence and a strong presence. She holds her head up and looks you in the eye, which I like. However, I think she had some sort of upper lip work done, and the result is not an improvement. Their conversations felt like eavesdropping on a young person trying to placate an old man, rich, spoiled and set in his ways. She seems used to following a rich man's orders on what to do with her phone, with her private time. V. Stiviano is used to being some man's Barbie Doll. This girl is nothin but trouble! Of course, sometimes, a little 'trouble' can be fun, so long as it doesn't get 'out of hand', if you know what I mean.

She and her callers are calling everyone a racist except Sterling!!??? WTF is in the water at ksco!?! This issue has stirred the right wingers. They seem upset that white guys can't walk around putting down minorities without any repercussions. She just blamed Obama and a caller just brought up Benghazi. Come on Rich! When's the debut? I've emailed MZ numerous times. We need you on air.

    1. MZ is operating on an outdated model. Listening to the folks who call the likes of Friedman and Georgia I'd venture to guess an average age of 68 and mostly white audience. MZ has to wake up and smell the coffee. That demographic is on its way out. They're a joke. In the light of the Sterling fiasco the two above mentioned Bozos turned the issue into a right vs left argument. Georgia the Southern hag even said it was all a conspiracy to distract us from Benghazi. No wonder tea baggers are a laughingstock.

      Delete
    2. "They seem upset that white guys can't walk around putting down minorities without repercussions."

Without repercussions, liberals routinely put down Christians, social and fiscal conservatives, pro-lifers, advocates of merit-based education and hiring, strict constructionists, cops, old white men, Tea Party supporters, border watchers, rednecks, hunters, NASCAR fans, and, to use your words, "crazy" southerners, "stupid" right wingers.

Not one of those groups has ever transformed a decent neighborhood or city into an unlivable, crime-ridden, slum, something America's minorities have accomplished hundreds of times. Yet what bothers you is the possibility that a white male might actually believe it's his right to express his thoughts on minorities without repercussions.

If that doesn't qualify as "crazy" and "stupid" I don't know what does.

    6. Anonymous @ 11:16 PM -- You are, once again, showing your true ignorance. You brand me a racist not for anything I've ever done or advocated but for my observations of things as they exist. Using your criteria, anyone studying mass murder in America becomes a racist the moment he observes the perpetrators to be disproportionately white.

Don't get me wrong, I am not a man without sympathy. I am sorry that you lack the facts necessary to prove wrong your foes (not to mention the intellect required to free yourself of your politically-correct delusions). Case in point: in a prior comment I noted the relationship between minorities and urban decay. For this you branded me a racist, evidence that you equate stated observations with racism. But when I mentioned the relationship between mass murder in America and the white race you jumped to no such conclusions, despite the identical components of the two observations. Contradictory thinking of this type, when exhibited in a teenage girl, is called being fickle; when observed in a superstitious tribesman, primitive thinking. Which description best fits you?
