KSFO For Sale; Armstrong and Getty Want More Moolah; KPIX: More Managers Than Reporters; Raiders/A's Radio Mystery 2015; Monday Media Notes

That $8-10 million you have stashed in the basement will probably allow you to buy KSFO which is very much for sale.

Word is that Cumulus, which from time to time moves a few shekels around their various accounts to pay Paul, is looking for a buyer so it could pay a few Peters.

The last sentence is not a joke. But yes, go ahead and use your imagination.

*The ever-loving, creative gems known as "Armstrong and Getty", Sacramento's gift to mankind and the hot button of corny, right-wing tinged "humor", are looking for more money. Now, the dim-witted duo of dog-dodo ditties quietly have asked the Clear Channel suits for, what one broadcast sage called, a "substantial raise." In the process their various producers and interns have born the brunt of some intense screaming and yelling. "Obscene", offered a back spy of mine who said each day gets worse. Sort of like Armstrong and Getty's material of which most originates from a Carmichael strip mall. Extra note: The duo have an existing contract. Maybe they should get better agents.

*Not too long ago KPIX, the station that has more managers than reporters, hired some Sacramento suit from the KOVR arena. Another one. Worse, this latest torso's impact has been minimal at best. Bruno Cohen, the GM at 855 Battery; the individual the money men back in NY brought in to "make a mark" still remains mysteriously quiet. Maybe the kung-pao chicken at Hunan took its toll.

*Both the Raiders and A's radio contracts are up next year at 95.7 FM The Game--it would appear the A's are comfortable with the station but the Raiders apparently are not. Here's something to think: Could flailing KGO, with 50K watts of power be the future radio Raiders home? Makes sense since the Raiders need a signal and KGO, we'll hell, they could use a pulse.

NOTES: I'm not into torture, really, but I purposely forced myself to listen to the KSFO Morning Show Monday and God, Suss, what the hell you thinkin? The endless sound bits? Fart noises? Sirens? And the Joe Biden/Hillary mess is a mess and NOT FUNNY...KTVU order of business: good that they re-signed Ken Wayne and yes, the early-evening numbers are better--after some serious memos from Atlanta and Cox Media-- to put up or shut up and I'm being nice and clean here...the diva in sales at KNBR made a stink about her first commission check. That alone should tell you why a station that is fronting the other schlubs are running on-air ads in desperate search of AE's. Come to us and SELL and we will make you happy. Yeah, right...If you have a quarter brain and despise traffic, stay clear of Downtown Tuesday --I heard there's a baseball game...KTVU to PIX: You have managers, we have reporters!...

Later.

  1. If KSFO can be had for $8 mil as you speculate, why not the Raiders or A's purchase it? They'd get their mouthpiece and all ad revenue. KSFO has a decent signal.

    1. Good idea, actually. The Raider's a hip enough to know that the NFL local deals are best on FM, but the A's could stay on AM forever. It would be an interesting deal. The A's buy KSFO and the Raiders become the football affiliate. KSFO and the A's would make a bundle. Possible, too, that both A's and Raiders buy KSFO together, but the in-fighting would be horrendous. The A;s would be the best bet to buy it and lease time to the Raiders. Problems solved.

    2. Sheeeyit, $8 mil is 6 houses on the south side of Bernal Hill. Why wouldn't the A's do it?
// I think your # is way low btw Rich.

  2. There on air antics seem "normal" and the producers etc. Still have their aftershow in Sac. They've added 2 markets; and do very exception SF. More markets more money? Seems like that should have been covered contractually!?!

  3. Wait a minute,Ken Wayne is untouchable, but those comments made to me you rush to post?
Let me guess,You didn't like the compliments I got as you saw it, I enjoyed that too much. So,suddenly that ended and comments that you could make up--I mean find- that were as personal as can be now became MUST POSTS..lol. And why when you do a post on civility,I have a hard time backing you up...
And,as always the block on my comebacks tells me the game rules . Like I didn't already know?
I notice, like with Tim Kawakami, you don't like to criticize local celebs you wish you could be. A pattern.
    Who's Ken Wayne??-lol.

Rich, you didn't use the superfluous apostrophe here. I'm proud of you! Really.

  5. Can't help but notice that 415 Media blog. or at least the site that hosts 415 Media blog, is not advertising SF Giants ticket sales.

That's really funny considering how often Mr. Lieberman ridicules the SF Giants, Larry Baer, KNBR, Comcast Sports for their marketing of the team. Looks like Lieberman is in on it too.

  6. Rich, the sad state of broadcasting has turned so many of us veterans into cynics, and that's sad. But when companies are allowed to buy as many legacy stations as they want, and strip their once-splendid staffs to mere skeletons, with the majority of the work force being under paid, over worked, naive youngsters under the age of 25, when broadcasting companies hire people who have little or no experience in the profession, when 'consultants' (that's an oxymoron when it comes to broadcasting!) who are basically failed broadcasters are depended upon to render advice to stations, what does that say about the state of broadcasting? Perhaps even more significantly, the general public is getting short-changed, as reliable, credible stations, veteran broadcast journalists, and reliable daily information on the local news is no longer available as it once was. This has led to a dumbing down of our public, and that's a dangerous thing. A lot of people now depend on mega companies such as Fox to provide them with accurate and credible information, and it's absolutely astonishing that people actually put any credence into the tripe that this greedy company spews out on a daily basis. There is also something about a Fox broadcaster that is distinctive: They's usually brassy, from the south or midwest, and the women all seem to look like cheap bimbos. And we have only ourselves to blame for this fiasco by voting, (or not voting at all) in elections for people who are not looking out for our best interests and passed such onerous legislation as the Communications Act of 1996. Hard to believe that someone as enlightened as Bill Clinton would have signed it into law. To this day however, it's one of his worst regrets as a President, but what can we do about it now? Very little! Hate to say I told you so, but I told you so many years ago when I saw this coming after the Communications Act was signed into law. That was a dark day in this country's history, and an even darker day for the free press and for those of us who love the profession of broadcasting. Thanks for bringing this up time and again Rich, to remind many of the naive folks as there, as well as the clogged headed nincompoops who seem to think that companies such as Clear Channel and Cumulus have every right to slash, burn and basically destroy broadcasting!

    1. BRAVO! This is an absolutely brilliant and intelligent post that should be saved and framed. It can be applied to television and radio. This is exactly why media are in their current state. Newspapers? We can attribute that to the internet. But TV and radio, this post has your answer.

    2. Spot on, every word.

Sadly, there is a small handful of people making out like bandits while destroying the nation's trust, just like there is a small handful making out like bandits destroying most of the other industries in the USA all the while tsk-tsking in public, and they're not going to stop doing it anytime soon.

    3. Good lord...shut up. You DNC shills are a joke. "Enlightened Bill Clinton"...lol. He's in cahoots with Papa Bush skimming off the top of those banks people donated money to for the Indonesian tsunami and Haitian earthquake.

Didn't find that info on Fox news either...You do realize all the cable outlets have been losing market share hand over fist over the last decade right?

Those small handful of bandits making out are nothing more than lobbyist playing the pretend capitalist game called Monopoly and as such the only reason I watch any mainstream news these days is to hear what the state propaganda is for that day.
Fox/MSNBC/CNN...utter mouthpieces for the double-minded divide and conquer rulers playing the lib/con agitation card at virtually every turn.

But you retreads in the biz keep believing that "Fox is evil" and miss the point of their role in the overall hegelian dialectic. And some y'alll are news people? good god, y'all that damn out of touch with the reality. looks like it.

  7. My nomination for Alliteration Usage of the Year; " Dim Witted Duo of Dog Doo-Doo Ditties"! I like them, but in this day and age, don't push too much, even if you are 'the talent'. Makes me wonder if they want out of their contract and are trying to accomplish this by making themselves suddenly unaffordable. Or perhaps they really feel they are worth it, and the money is there to be taken by somebody. Which one do you think is really pushing this?

    1. CORRECT. Stan has his own blog which nobody reads. He gets some comments published here which others react to negatively OR get mocked by cruel trolls who maliciously encourage Stan with sarcastic praise.

Like 10:55, if I was interested in whatever Stan had to say, I would be reading his blog instead of Rich's.

  9. I heard a supposedly humorous promo for "Armstrong and Getty" last night, having something do to with thanking Putin for helping us get rid of the Black sea or Black Friday or both. It made no sense at all. I listened to it again carefully trying to understand it. Same result -- no sense at all. It had to be the stupidest most nonsensical thing I have ever heard on the radio, and these days that's saying a lot. These folks must think the listening public consists of morons.

  10. So the Raiders only have a 2 year contract with KGMZ? When they signed it a year ago it was announced as a multi-year deal. 2 years seems very short when the A's got a 4 agreement.

  11. You have to wonder if Suss is as juvenile as his show has become. "Thirty Thursday"etc. The KSFO morning show when Lee was there was fun and informative. Could it all be the hosts? Or are the content decisions being made by the suits? The only real informative content is Brian reading from Drudge and I can do that myself. I listen to Laura Ingraham on my phone instead.

  12. Raiders on KGO..? .... Do it.....Do anything..!
Even a flip to ... "Radio Disney" would be better.

Radio Disney does not have out of state traffic "desk" reporting drunks who have speech problems.
My kids would love radio disney on a former legacy station! .... woo-hoo
Ronnnn ....can you say ....mickey mouse?

  13. I have been saying the Raiders to KGO for 18 months, in fact a few people on this blog told me I didn't know what I was talking about and crazy.

KGO already has Cal Football The Raiders would be a nice compliment to that East Bay weekends. Then Cumulus would have access to The Raiders, The 49ers, The Giants, and The Warriors...the teams that move the needle in Bay Area radio. (sorry A's fans) Add to that they have Stanford Football and the NFL games and Final Four...pretty powerful mix of what people tune into the radio for.

    1. Less people listen to Cal and Raiders on the radio than the current KGO lineup. If Cumulous wants even lower ratings than they have now, then yes---add the Raiders.

    2. I'd rather listen to a 1-15 Raider season on KGO than listen to Weintraub, Hangin' with Langden, Karel and that stupid ass so called Chef Ryan Scott and his even dumber sidekick Secret Asian Asswipe.

    3. That's fine, if you are a sports fan, not everyone is. As a matter of fact I couldn't care less about most sports, and the one I do care about I don't want to listen to on the radio.

  14. Cumulus?...care about ratings?......hahahaha
They'd put on high school sports if they could get paid for it and find volunteer talent.

  15. There aren't enough adjectives to describes how bad the Armstrong and Getty Show is. When I moved here (Sacramento area) my girlfriend was raving how good and funny they are.... NOT!! I don't understand how they even made it to this level. Listening to them is like watching Fox News repeating the same crap day after day no wonder Sacramento is a cow town. So what they are in 3 markets just a cost cutting move to save money. I think it's kind of a bold move even to ask for more money for a product that sucks. And that stupid after show is a direct rip off from the Howard Stern Show on Sirius/XM. I often wonder what has happened to the thing I love the most radio.... It's pretty sad

  17. I started to listen to Armstrong and Getty in 1998 when I moved from the Peninsula to Benicia, and for several years I would switch between Lee Rodgers and Melanie Morgan and A&G, I'm pretty much a middle of the road democrat, on some issues I'm more to the right (support of Israel certain economic policies) on some I'm more to the left (social issues, workers right). However, I use to find them funny and entertaining, and could say the same for Lee and Melanie, although their coverage tended to be more serious. Also it seems like A&G use to have a more libertarian bend, now they have more of a right wing bend. However, where I live now (on the Peninsula) there are few choices these days for an early morning talk show, Sussman (forget it, read Rich's analysis above) Glenn Beck, at times his paranoid of the cliff right wing show can be somewhat entertaining, but not for long, so I switch back between Sussman, Beck and A&G to see who is the most outrageous, it is hard to tell, but usually I can listen to A&G a little longer, than the other two. The long and short of it is that if I miss a few minutes or more of either of these show, I hardly notice it, they are pretty much all background noise. Agree with Eric B above, pretty sad.
