Again, we wish her all the best.
*More mystery: KRON's Pam Moore has been gone from KRON's 6 PM newscast for 2 1/2 weeks without any word. We hope she's merely on an extended vacation.
*It was quite a Saturday early evening on the Ryan Scott cooking show. A dumb bub called "Secret Asian Man" managed to offend the entire Bay Area Asian community with a five-minute "bit" on Asian food only the yutz tried his best at a "comedy" routine. Some of this dolt's offerings: "All Chinese people look alike", "I like to eat out when I'm not washing dishes." He made further asinine comments --here's the podcast at :55 past the hour unless KGO removes this piece of crap first. Fill-in host, Rich Walcoff tried best not to be offended.
*If KTVU wants to extend Ken Wayne and they have, modestly, for a year, he looks as if he might want to explore a larger market with a whole lot more money down the road.
*If Larry Beil were to not project that he's Jesus Christ on the air perhaps critics like myself here, and those that sit beside him in the KGO-TV newsroom might be open to liking him. Then again, according to my circle7 adviser, Beil has his sights set on returning to Hawaii as a "big fish in a little pond", anchoring the ABC affiliate there.
*Speaking of KGO-TV, underrated weather woman with straight-forward delivery with grit and grace: Lisa Argen. Classy, understated and to the point.
*If the union in the city has a shakedown with KGO Radio/Cumulus it's in for a surprise because although SF has a strong union presence, Cumulus has a notorious habit of pushing aside unions and their nasty habit of trying to help the rank and file. So, take it from me: Cumulus will make mincemeat of KGO, the only union house in the SF cluster.

I don't really think we have the right to know why Jennifer Jones Lee is absent from KGO, some might be curious, but it really is none of our business, as far as I'm concerned. I'm more interested in what is going on with the week-end a.m. time slot that Montemayor had. For the past few week-ends there has been different guest hosts, some even had the bright idea to have Christine Kraft do 3 hours (I think it was last Saturday) however yesterday it was back to the morning news, even though the website said guests host. This morning there is someone named Matt Rey or Ray, I think I have heard him before, can't remember, they rotate guest host so often I can't keep track. How about Stacy Taylor and some other interesting and intelligent host? Guess that is asking too much. For a few weeks they had Gregg Nouri, not sure about spelling of his name, could Craig, whatever, he is okay, but nothing special.
ReplyDeleteI urge you to make your wishes/disgust known to KGO, not that it will help. They seem to want to wreck the station even further. They never let the listeners know what the schedule is over the weekend (the only time talk hosts are on other than Ronn). Everything is so random it's a wonder anyone listens at all. If you went to a restaurant that sometimes had food, sometimes was closed with no notice, how long do you think that place would survive. Ratings? Looks like they want low ratings. Beats me.
DeletePam is indeed on vacation. She'll be back...I believe tomorrow, if not the next day.
ReplyDeleteArgen is not liked because 1) she used to, and maybe still does, pretape her weather hits, so she can go home earlier. ("It's a long drive.") Plus she at least used to demand that her incompetent hubby producer, Mike Weir, be given a job in the same newsroom. Weir couldn't get a job on his own, but the two of them used to be a "package deal."
That doesn't fly in this age of cutting budgets to the bone and beyond, and I don't think she's made this demand for a good while. Still, she has a reputation.
> Pam is indeed on vacation. She'll be back...I believe tomorrow, if not the next day.
DeleteAnd in the interim the wonderful and criminally-underrated Catherine Heenan is on. I'd rather watch MC any day. She's the best.
Moore is the best and should be back. Can't stand Catherine Heenan's rustiness - voice and looks. Some cough drops and more botox may help,
DeleteBotox? Come on.......trying to set women back a century????
DeleteWhy does Catherine Heenan like she is still in the 50s? Radnich is always saying how she is so friendly with his mother. Is she getting fashion tips from his mom?
Delete"Cumulus will make mincemeat of KGO, the only union house in the SF cluster."
ReplyDeleteActually KSFO is an AFTRA station too.
Not for long, but I stand corrected.
DeleteSpeaking of Ken Wayne...has he had work done? perhaps an eye lift? He looks so different than he used to look.
ReplyDeleteI know someone suggested former PD Hosley chose Ryan Scott but those who know the truth are well aware he was a Jared Hart selection. I'm sure his great ability to find talent will serve him well in his next job. This doesn't exonerate management from leaving that idiot on the radio. Station is a joke right now.
ReplyDeleteAnd stop asking about Jones Lee. Not your business.
Thank you for shining the light on that despicable creature called Ryan Scott the so called chef. As if he isn't bad enough, Secret Asian Man prances in with sophomoric humor to remind us how far the mighty have fallen. Each attempt at humor is an ominous reminder of the low standards that permeate the once great station. Those two pricks would've been fit to clean the toilets at KGO when it was on top. Today thanks to the Dickeys they're heard on the 50k watt flamethrower spewing rubbish and talking nonsense. In my book Ryan Scott is the worst Bay Area talk show host in history officially surpassing the NY "comedian" Mo Langdenly
ReplyDeleteI feel like none of you actually listen to Maureen if you think she's that awful. She's by no means a superstar, but she's a lot better than when she began. There have been worse hosts in the bay for certain.
DeleteI listen to her off and on, I agree she is better, but she cannot hold a candle to John Rothmann, Stacy Taylor, Christine Kraft or Peter B Collins, however she is better than Karel, Frosty and Gil. Never the less I have to be driving to listen to her, if Im home usually I can find something more interesting to do. Also I can't stand her "Hanging with Langdon" promotion, which I posted on her facebook page.
DeleteI am the speedboat, not the processed cheese. It's always fun to fill in at KGO, and I always enjoy the opportunity and always want more, more, and more.
DeleteGo Go Go Christine girl I love when you are on. Yes I am female. I have listen to you a lot I find you informed and very intelligent keep going my dear.
Delete9:46 AM is right on the money. KGO needs to get Rothmann, Taylor, Christine and Collins back on the air ASAP before the other stations swoop them up!!! Oh, wait. Right...
Delete12:05...you assume that I'm looking at other radio stations in San Francisco, an incorrect assumption.
DeleteI'm not assuming you're good at radio because you and the other fill-ins which include those they have on the air right now do nothing to move the needle. While that my seem like an insult it's more like a fact. If any of the people mentioned by the poster at 9:46 AM were any good they would be on the air somewhere. KGO used to have great talent but these weren't the people who made up that talent. Rothmann especially who seems like he's prepping for a CNN interview. That's not interesting radio. I don't mind Taylor but the rest of the group is useless especially if KGO wants to make money, which you can debate whether they actually do.
DeleteHow would you know which fill-ins "move the needle"?I've been on KGO maybe twice in the last several months, so I'm not part of the ratings analysis at KGO or anywhere else. Similarly, John R, Stacy, Peter haven't been on the air at KGO at all. How do you know what we collectively or individually do to affect the ratings there? Your analysis lacks understanding. The talent that you imply were getting high ratings, actually weren't. The genius of the old KGO was not in any one individual, but rather in the collective. Throughout the day you had news, interactive commentary, news, more talk and a great place to vent and sample the views of the community from every perspective.
DeleteI don't disagree with that, but I've heard all those hosts countless times. As someone who worked on the programming side for a long time I think I have an understanding of what works. To make the assumption that the "genius of the old KGO" was in the collective severely misses the point, but I'm not going to get into that, or how I think you're off the mark. What I will say is nearly every PD worth his/her salt knows what's good when they hear it, or can figure out how it could be better. Having heard your program many times, as well as the others mentioned, I believe, collectively, you've all reached your ceiling and it's not that high. As mentioned, I remove Stacy from the group because I see some talent there, but the rest of the bench are merely local hosts who would not make a difference at KGO, or elsewhere. If they could they'd be doing it. Sorry, but that's my honest assessment. If you'd like a detailed assessment of what I think is wrong with your show I can post that here for you.
DeleteWell if you are such a great programmer, what exactly have you programmed that has been so successful?
DeleteI heard an energetic talk show last night on KFBK. Pat Walsh doing a show in the spot where once was the predictably third rate Hannity. He's good. I'll listen again, at least.
Deletepoor 1:04...an immensely successful programmer (by her own account) doesn't want to be outed.. Okay, can you name even one successful talk host..that you've found and promoted? even peripherally?
DeleteNow wouldn't that give away the anonymous nature of things? I can't imagine I'm the only one who doesn't see the talent among the group mentioned. Heck, the group on the air at KGO these days, or anyone in the SF Bay Area isn't that strong. Rather than me telling you about my past, you can explain to me why none of these great hosts are on the air anywhere else.
DeleteHave they told you they want to work outside of San Francisco? I don't think you've ever programmed anything, actually.
DeleteIf you had, you'd know that one of the shortest-lived roles in broadcasting is as a program director. If , as you assert, programmers knew what works and what doesn't automatically, there would be lots more program directors with steady jobs.
No frat boys on KNBR this morning, Ray.Woodson so muh better.
ReplyDeleteExcept for the snarky attitude.
DeleteGee, I never liked Lisa Argen. To each their own, I suppose.
ReplyDeleteI recall Lisa Argen on KRON telling us that afternoon temperatures would remain cool, because the sun would have to expend so much energy burning off the fog.
DeleteI recall her on KGO remarking that a viewer-sent photograph from Santa Cruz, showing the sun out over the ocean, was a beautiful "sunrise."
I recall her on KGO confusing the Vernal Equinox with the switch to daylight saving time.
I don't put a lot of stock in her reports.
Lisa Argen is good and a great person too.
