Juliette Goodrich: KPIX Anchor Is Not Only Hot But Smart And Able Too; KCBS Repetition Reaches Epic Proportions; KGO-TV Stock Up; Tuesday Opener

Juliette Goodrich
Is it a crime to admit that you like a noted female SF TV News anchor? Absolutely not. And yes, this particular anchor/reporter has won a ton of industry awards and is hot too--sue me.

Juliette Goodrich is not only pleasing to the eyes, but one tenacious and fierce reporter. And she's able to translate that specialty to her anchoring duties at KPIX where she's held court since 1997.

I admire Goodrich's work and  along with her terrific and steady delivery comes a warm and engaging personality. That's a commodity in today's TV News biz.

*KCBS continues its uber-annoying and relentless REPEAT story program and it's to the point where the local all-news radio powerhouse is risking its well-earned reputation as a preeminent news operation. Just Monday and into early Tuesday, KCBS repeated stories that had run on-air multiple times.

Bay Area congressmen and women want US Attorney to ignore going after medicinal marijuana cases. I heard that at least 6 times--six! The Raiders fan who saved the life of the woman who jumped off the third deck of the Oakland Coliseum ran at least 8 times. Ridiculous. And on and on and on and on....

I'm a big supporter of KCBS and have written as much. Their news model is consistent. So I bitch with no agenda. I acknowledge a lot of people are constantly switching the channel. I know people miss the initial report, I do. But the constant reshuffle on-air borders on lazy and makes KCBS look bad and that's not good.

Why not more features? Why not more interviews? C'mon.

  1. About Juliette--she is an absolute JOY to work with. Photogs, editors, writers--they all love working with her. She can "hang with the boys" when it comes to humor/jokes.

    1. I am not surprised to read that; her warmth and humanity are apparent to those of us on the other side of the screen. Go Juliette, hopefully we'll see you more often - say around 5pm, M-F.

    Yes, yes, yes, and yes!

  3. " *STOCK UP: KGO-TV, (ABC7)"

    STOCK DOWN: Darya Folsom (KRON4)

Perhaps after being schooled by the much respected George Rask yesterday, she'll learn what qualifies as a "game" and what doesn't.

  4. How can Mr. Lieberman get away with talking about how hot local female broadcasters are after criticizing the industry for discrimination based on physical appearance?

    1. Recognizing hypocrisy is not one of Lieberman's strong points.

Unless you've gone out on stories with her, I don't know how you could possibly know this. And she doesn't go out on stories, does she? I mean, she's all desk now.

  6. I agree up with Juliette down with Darya. Any new on Jennifer Jones Lee?

  7. KCBS borders on lazy and looks bad? The Nielsen ratings beg to differ. #1 in 6+ five books in a row. The repetition may bother some but that's how you win in the PPM world.

    1. Justin Bieber is popular too. What's your point?

    2. Live and local news on KCBS, we'll tell you about the BART shutdown wreaking havoc on Bay Area traffic, but first, here's the prerecorded business report.

And next is our daily chat with John Madden, replayed from earlier today.

And there's that huge BART story, but first, our precorded restaurant guy report.

And there's that huge BART story, but first, here's the prerecorded story from yesterday about playground garbage cans.

Oh traffic on the 8's but it's 58 minutes so we gotta rush it, so no time to even mention BART...

Top of the hour, on the hour, national news. Nothing about BART here, what a um, surprise.

Ok now back to the live and local people...why aren't they talking about BART, oh wait, they did mention it, they said they will talk about it later. Hmmm.

Wait, now they're doing traffic? Ok. Seems like they could cover the BART thing here, doesn't it? Ah, no time. If they do that, they'll have to postpone the 11th playing of Narsai David's food report.

And weather, oops, of course, what was I thinking.

Ah, the BART story, at last.

(no, I'm not from KGO, I think their format is basically the same, slightly less predictable and though not as prerecorded as KCBS, the live people are rereading previous stories.)

  8. Ronn Owens accepting calls about the KGO program change 2 years ago - today from 11:38-12;00, claiming it is "today only, never again".

  9. On a different topic, here's one for your list of things in news that are annoying/superfluous: when a reporter mentions a company is being sued for something and they say, "So-and-so refused to comment about the pending lawsuit." Of course they refused to comment. It's in litigation. But they say it as if it's a big black eye--an admission of guilt--on their part.

  10. Rich, are you a Junior High School boy drooling over the pretty girls? Pathetic.

  11. I agree the repetitions are tiresome. Remember KCBS with their news magazine? Enjoyed that format and Lila Peterson. The bigger issue are the COMMERCIALS. Endless and repetitive. A 60 minute show with 30 minutes of content. Ads separated by traffic and weather. The cost to listen has become to great. KGO is the worst. Since the firing the content does not justify the price of listening. Moving to podcasts. Need a radio TIVO. Do this stations not see they are driving they own customers away?

  12. I'm sorry. She always looks like she just came out of a tanning salon in Antioch somewhere. Meh. Just my opinion.

  13. KGO radio doesn't repeat nearly as much despite their poor ratings

  14. I totally agree with the endless commercial breaks on KGO (and KSFO)...my solution is to dig into the 7-day archives and listen to the program on my iPad. It's super easy to skip past all that annoyance to the segments. Rich, you have my empathy with your tooth extr...hope it was just routine. Get well soon

  17. Juliette is a dream. So cool and so sweet and great to work/play with. Oh, And I'd love to ravage her in a head-board-busting "wrestling" match ;) Luv ya Jules!

  18. When does she work? I have been watching 5 a lot more lately because their shows have really picked up since October. They also don't do the daily crime blotter. I rarely see Juliette on their shows.

  19. KCBS: your home for traffic on the 8's and 5 minutes of live and local news every hour!

  20. If I recall right,Juliette was part of a program KPIX had back when to find college talents. Funny how those have worked out so well. KGO did that in the 80's and that's when Lisa Stark and Cheryl Jennings started out. I'm not even sure if the latter were journalism grads in college. Or had any experience.

  21. Here's another for your "Tired of hearing that cliche" post. "Its his only chink in his armor" I just heard Bill Cowher say that on CBS. For one thing, ever since the Jeremy Lin ESPN thing, its sounds racist..and for another,I always heard it was " A KINK in his armor". So I doubt chink is necessary if that's your cliche of choice. Right?
