  1. How long will it take to see the new numbers on KGO vs 910 now that some of the talent has moved over?

    1. Arbitron P12+ numbers for January should be out by the end of this month. KGO tanked in December but it will be interesting to see if it stayed that way (presumably), as well as how much of a boost 910-AM got.

    2. January ratings come out Monday 2/20. They will show about 3 weeks worth of the new hosts. 910 has a terrible signal so don't expect much. But KGO should continue to slide.

    3. The monthlies are out the first or second week of March.

Don't be surprised -- what may look huge from the perspective of posters here may not be as big as reality. KGOne has already slid in December / January to it's lowest.

People don't stick around to see the carnage after awhile like we do. The biggest shift moved on after the bloodbath.

Without Burns, KKSF-910 is still evolving and the station still hasn't evolved into what it will be if / when Gene returns.

How long this "fill-in" situation can last with sustainability is anyone's guess at this point. It's still good publicity -- but note than no one yet besides Burns and Tillem have been signed up "fulltime" or on a regular basis until it is seen where Gene is heading. "Dining Around" with Joel Riddell is a money-maker for the station and Clear Channel because of the advertiser base that Gene & Joel have built over the years. So, that's a plus.

But the situation now is still "temporary" at best and it costs Clear Channel / 910 substantial money to bring in talent everyday like they have been on a "temporary" once or maybe twice a week basis.

Clear Channel on a very very low rated station isn't one to spend big bugs on local if syndication will do. A Burns fulltime (or a replacement if need be) and one parttime (Tillem) is the best they can do right now.

      Why?

$$$$$$$$$$$ and lots of it. The chicken or the egg? It all comes down to money in the bank and advertisers and their agencies are looking for those 25-54 year olds more than the "old KGO". Is there money to be made? Sure, and probably lots of it, but the economy and "choices" makes it a touch call right now.

And with numbers like KGO, KKSF and KNEW-960 -- if God was on, it would still be a tough buy if the station isn't producing results and that comes from lots of advertisers buying in.

If the numbers don't come up in this first post-holiday "monthly PPM" from Arbitron -- you can bet that the KGO Legends will be on temporary relief for just awhile longer before 910 and Clear Channel make a move to fill the slot on a regular basis with one person -- not five. Ray T. wouldn't work in any but all-night and there is no money in that daypart.

They can go syndicated, maybe go with someone local like Gil Gross John Rothman or someone brought in somewhat fresh and "new".

Here are some names to consider:

Christine Craft (still working at KGO), Enid Goldstein, Greg Jarrett (on the beach in Chicago after leaving mornings at WGN) and others.

It would, at best, be the "best of the litter" and not a spending spree. Not in this quarter, nor in this economy.

      Time will tell.

That's not true. The January book will be released Monday 2/20.

    5. I agree that the biggest dip of people abandoning KGO was immediately after the bloodbath in December. However, I am guessing more people continue to give up every day since then. I think that some people reduced their listening time at first and some just kept listening out of habit. However the programming and that local news format is just HORRIBLE and even the most desperate of listeners have to be turning it off. With the additional planned changes, it just makes things worse. Everything interesting will be gone except for Ronn Owens (I know some of you hate him these days...not me) and I wouldn't be surprised that we might turn on the station at 9:00 a.m. someday soon and he will be gone although I understand they probably want to get their money's worth out of his contract and he does bring listeners in. Still, whoever is making decisions has some grand plan that omits quality programming.

  2. No contest...not even close. Anyone car to "spin" these numbers to the "left"?

  3. I think the most interesting thing about those numbers is how Hannity loses 33% of the audience following Bill. That's a very big dropoff.

I can only imagine how far down that list Hannity is without O'Reilly's lead in.

  4. hey, keep posting this list. this is very interesting. thanks.

  5. Where is the commie O'Donnell or race baiter Sharpton?

  6. Curious what the difference in numbers with Piers Morgan compared to Larry King.

  7. Bill O'reilly rules the roost , now if he would just learn to let a guest speak without talking over them. I feel bad for the guests and Bill. But still Great TV.

  8. The dog show ratings topped them all.

  9. Nice to see Stewart and Colbert are pretty competitive with the more slanted news shows.

  10. Are re-runs of Hogan's Heroes and the Brady Bunch on TV Land higher rated than O'Donnell and Sharpton's shows?

    1. I made no observation about any numbers...did I? I'm not a Piers Morgan fan. His next question of some Whitney Houston confrere will likely be," But was she ever PROPERLY buried?" I enjoy Anderson Cooper's very American, very sophisticated sense of humor. And if it's a size thing, I'm betting his audience is larger than any you'll ever see. One watches Piers Morgan..not for Piers MOrgan..but for the top-tier guests that CNN books. You can often see those guests squirm when Piers MOrgan asks his single most-asked question, "Have you ever been PROPERLY loved" as if he were some sort of sphincter-lipped avatar of amour.

    2. I have been following Piers since he started and agree that he gets the BEST guests...his questions are better and better (although I'm sick of the "properly loved?" one)...I just wish he would learn to STOP INTERRUPTING AND TALKING OVER guests just as they get to the BEST part of their answers! How can a host survive by doing that? I turn him off when he gets bad. Mind-blowing. (I did notice that when he did it repeatedly to Colin Powell, General Powell lost patience with it and at one point nearly called him on it. That was too cool.)

  18. I just watched Valerie Simpson on Piers Morgan. She was amazing and I was touched by her tribute to Whitney Houston who achieved the greatest successes possible in the Music biz..despite the idiotic protestations to the contrary from her posthumous antagonists.
Valerie Simpson and Nick Ashford wrote"I'm Every Woman"...which Whitney hit into the stratosphere...
