KGO and KNBR take precipitous October falls--no surprise for Knibber, post Giants' baseball
Yes, only a beauty contest, (the ad people don't pay any attention to this, but nonetheless, it confirms certain realities: after baseball, nobody hardly listens to KNBR).
And take a look at both station's cume. Gosh.
And the much-pubbed KGMZ, Entercom's "only FM sports station", (95.7) lagged far down the radio food chain with numbers that had local radio peeps laughing. The password is: blase, (psst, NOBODY is LISTENING!)
Yeah, after that Oakland A's baseball, it's a goner. Good thing they brought in the ex-KNBR daffy duck and a bunch of east-coast nobodies.
Here's the numbers.

Your going by Radio Daily News..I cant make sense of their stats-KCTC-AM is second to KNBR at sports???..just ahead of KTRB and 96.7?
ReplyDeleteRadio-info.com tells a different story..95.7 has 175,000 listeners, down from a high of 195,000-baseball season. KNBR has had a HUGE drop from 900,000 to 670,000..a much larger percentage.
KNBR's chimp is feeling the pressure.
KNBR should benefit from the 49ers success well into January. Warriors will be playing by then too. As for The Game, their numbers in the more important demos are even more horrid than 6+.
ReplyDeleteI can anecdotally vouch as being a part of KNBR's ratings drop. 9-Noon was destination radio for me while at work. I would stream KNBR on my phone the entire time. Couldn't wait for Bruno to come on at the various times. Radnich, Dibley, Connor, Woodson and Bruno was hilarity. After KNBR blew up their schedule, KNBR is no more relevant me than Radio Disney. I know 9-noon wasn't straight sports, but the mix of entertainment and sports was just what I needed in the morning.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone listen to KNBR? Maybe if you have problems with insomnia.
ReplyDeleteI would over haul the entire station, Murp and Mac are horrible, not sure what Mac does but does Murp has to ask every damn guest, what their Mom home made dish signature is as soon as Bozo answers that question I shut the station off, Gary is nothing short of a brown noser, who no longer does not follow current sports, Larry Kruger is a wanna be, and is angry at the world, Fitz is a pompous joke, lucky the Warriors pay him so its free on KNBRfree, Brooks is a bore, Ralph and Tom, Ralph no longer follows sports and seems to be very unprerpared, Tom follows sports but can't ask a question under a million words, and Byrnes is just plan horrible. Every time I hear him I think of the movie Ridgemont high.
ReplyDelete2:03 couldn't have said it better
ReplyDeleteI also noticed that Brooks is no longer working the sideline for the Niner's broadcasts. What happened?
ReplyDeleteCan't stand Dibs, too pompus considering he's a terrible broadcaster.
In view of the fact that tomorrow is election day in some areas I will also cast a vote for 2:03. He or she is right on.
ReplyDeleteOutside of that, what do you really think is wrong with KNBR? Or any of the local radio stations for that matter? Guess what? None of them care what you think. As long as people like 'ticky-dicky' are seeing nice fat bottom lines at the end of every business quarter, the Cumululitis big wigs in Atlanta will be happy.
ReplyDeleteSlick Lou has already had his traveling henchmen (think of the movie with George Clooney, "Up in the Air") fire a bunch of folks behind the scenes and in the front office of KGO. One longtime KGO staffer was quoted as saying: "this is a long, slow death march!" Wait until they move the offices over to 55 Hawthorne...then you're really going to see some blood spilled. Lots of good radio folks (lifers) will be out on the street. Sad news, but par for the course in this country. For the most part Americans could care less about where they get their news and sports info anymore.
And the under 30 crowd is too busy texting, tweeting, and yacking away on their cell phones
( meanwhile all of the money they're paying for these services continues to subsidize mega-companies such as A T and T, Verizon, and others).
Isn't the 21st century lovely?
@2:03 asked a question that I have often wondered myself. What exactly does Pauly Mac do? There have been mornings that I didn't even realize Mac wasn't there until Murph happened to mention he's out sick - again.
ReplyDeleteMurph and Mac are better than anything else in the morning. I gave 95.7 a few shots but too much raiders/a's. Whatever for the rest of the schedule - I'm too busy to listen.
ReplyDeleteAgree with above comments about knbr, the entire station sucks. Blow it up and start over, maybe i will check it out then - and only then.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering where Brooks has been on the 49er broadcasts too. If anyone else is lisening to the radio, its time to start a drinking game every time Davis says "Understand". The defense understands the situation. The team now understands......they've leanred and understand
ReplyDeleteI'm curious as to why you never post the ratings for freak960? Could it be because they have no ratings?
ReplyDelete2:03 is spot on. I'd even go a little further with Brooks, he's boring and just plain bad on the radio.
ReplyDelete7:06 Murph and Mac are better than anything in the morning? Really? Tough to imagine.
KNBR is a joke. Time to switch to 95.7 the Game. I'm sick of the same old boring sports radio guys with nothing to say. I'm a Niners fan but it's nice to hear someone talk Raiders. We have 2 baseball teams and 2 football teams, but we have only heard sports talk for the Niners and Giants. I am SOO glad the Game is here. Wow, such a better all around atation
ReplyDeleteKNBR is terrible. I'm surprised that many people still listen to it.
ReplyDeleteThose ratings are fixed. Everyone I know with any sports interest & knowledge listen to 95.7 ....I think they sample barber shops with old AM only radios.
