Friday Holiday Rundown; Buster Posey gets 'News' status; Razor's view; Frat boys re-up; Papa-West on Comcast

*The Buster Posey injury affair received mega, non-sports, almost saturation coverage even among the non-sports platform, including multiple TV and radio play. KCBS' Doug Sovern's report from AT&T on the Posey affair was the top report on both the AM and PM news blocks; KGO too.

And of course, local TV was heavy-duty Buster. Reminded me that Posey is in Joe Montana company, maybe its the name, Buster.

*The knibber afternoon 3-7 big kahuna likened the Posey-Cousins leveling to Jack Tatum's hit on Darryl Stingley. There's an item there that I'm not going to even touch; I'll let you guys chew on that analogy. (Psst, I think its dumb)

*Speaking of knibber, the frat boys were re-upped a reported six-year deal because somebody wanted a morning show. I guess.

*Lawrence Karnow gets love at KPIX: one of the best in the weather reporting biz gets the noon and 5PM news permanent gig. I like Karnow. Professional and nice too.

*No, I haven't reported on the NBC Bay Area morning situation because that requires a lot of morning viewing over there and I'm not a morning viewer unless there's a lot of....(fill in the blank)

*Razor: The Posey play was "unnecessary roughness." So is an Ameci's pizza.

*Kessler: He'll be fine either way.

*KGO news at 4 PM: Hey, Larry, now you can be pompous on the news side too.

*Eric Byrnes after sixty days update: more coffee, dude.

*If Byrnes lasts beyond the season, I'm buying the Press Box a round of MGD.

*Bill Burton, new GM at KGO-TV. "Burton"--good name to have in SF.

*Greg Papa to Jerry West: "You're 6-2" West: "Actually, I'm 6-4." Papa, later, "You're 6-2." West, something like, "We'll, no I'm 6-4." Conclusion: a sorta west-coast version of Dan Rather's "Kenneth, what is the frequency?"

*KGO Radio is giving away tix to the U2 concert....next thing you know, Phillip Roth will be appearing on Murph and Mac.

*The rumors are not true: I'm not interested in anchoring down at NBC Bay Area. Traffic on 880 is a bitch, you know.

*I am available for weddings, bar/bat-mitzvahs, funerals, and assorted fraternal proceedings at Tommy's Joynt.

*KRON at 11: at least you're beating C-SPAN4.

*Knibber without the Giants: sorta like Katy Perry without the boobs.

*Jessica Aguirre is OK in my book even though her boss doesn't seem to think so.

*KPIX: Four field reporters. Like, 4!

*Larry and Copey at 900 Front: The gruesome-twosome. Someone call the mayor.

  1. The Fart boys must have a shrine to 95.7 set up. Without the station KNBR claims to not worry about, they take pay cuts and year to year.
I would take Mountain Mikes over Amici's bloated price pizza any day.
Eric Byrnes must have been high as a kite to show up on Comcast in his best bum clothes while shaking and juiced-on something. He thought nobody would notice?

  2. What do you mean you have not reported on the NBC Bay Area morning situation? You drool over the new weather girl. You do an interivew with her. Quit fooling yourself and tell it like it is, sometimes Mr. Media is lazy and does not have any real sources.

You have to give some credit to KRON. It is all about lead-in and KRON does not have one. give KRON a lead in like those other stations and it would be fine. 'Don't Forget the Lyrics'? Come on!

What do you expect from KNBR...they are THE Giants station? It is not a sports talk station.

Karnow is weak. Give me the blonde weather babe on KRON anyday. She has a nice warm front in the future.

Kessler will be fine only because he is financially secure after milking CBS for a big time payday over the last few years despite his morning show numbers showing he was not worthy of it.

It's not like he isn't important to the franchise as well as being a good story. Rookie of the Year and World Series winner the same year...c'mon Rich let's not be catty.

Lets be honest...it's little kahuna, a Junior Joe Peschi if you will......Hell I'd listen to Radnich before this putz. Were it not for Tolbert he would have been shown the door long ago.

    Radio competition....how does it work.

Concur....he makes Santangelo (whom I thought got a bad rap) come off like Edward R. Murrow!

  4. For what it's worth, the big kahuna is Jon Miller's tagname, not Ralph's.

  5. Did anyone hear the interview Mr. Amiciis did with Bob Nitengale? They got Bob on because of the Posey Collision but then spent half the interview talking about steroids. He didn't even ask Bob if he thought the rule about collisions at the plate should be changed. Newsflash to Ralph, its not a slow news day you don't have to talk about steroids.

I stand corrected! You're right. My thought was the "Big Kahuna" of the 3 to 7 shift would technically be Barbieri.

  7. You know that poster who said he interned at KNBR and said they were full of rules and paranoid? Today they said cant play Dan Dibleys then 4-5 years drops. So,no more bad knowlege.
Kate Scott? funny,I sent a post that I didnt see go up here, where I joked Lee Hammer hire a black lesbian?..well,she's a white Lesbian she said.
But I would say to her look in the mirror, for her to say on KNBR she didnt get a broadcast job previous because her last name wasnt "Ramirez" is asinine.
SURE Kate, we know the horrid discrimination hot blonds must face! I'm in tears for you...No wonder Hammer hired you, dull and ignorant.

  8. maybe i missed it Rich, but have you done anything on dribley's replacement, Kate Scott? she has a great voice...

  9. This is just too delicious-Patrick Connor who has frequently said on the KNBR twitter page such comments as "Im no homo!",now works close in the studio with Kate Scott!. And Radnich face when she said she was married to another woman was,of the crooked "smile".
    The changes are head spinning..lol..

  10. Any low down on Cheryl Hurds abilities? I like her a lot but she is starting to look like Rue Paul, but in a sexier way.

  11. I should explain-Dan's son's drops done when he was 4 or 5 years old were banned. Hammer is even giving Dibly's kids the KNBR silent treatment.

  12. Rich, if KNTV doesn't want Kessler because of the recent screw up they can hire me instead of him. Do I have any experience in news anchoring? No but this is KNTV that we are talking about. They also dont seem to have any east bay based people either. KPIX with only 4 field reporters? OMG! At least they have at least one living in the Concord area!

  13. Kate Scott is kinda cool. She's gotten more comfortable throughout the week and by today (Friday) was jabbing back and forth with Gary and Tony. BTW, I don't care her sexual preference. I have my views but has nothing with her ability to do a job. Good luck Kate !

  14. i agree that Kate Scott is cool but after listening to her for several days, her look surprised me...i thought she had more of a mixed heritage type background as she has a kind of sultry voice...reminds me a little of Shann Nix...

also, i lol'ed at "The Fart Boys"...fits them perfectly...

  15. One other bombshell from todays Radnich show, possibly. I missed the start..but it sounded like Bruno was saying goodbye as a regular on Radnich show. He wants to do other things this summer by day while his radio show at night continues.
In one week Radnich lost Dibly and Bruno. But,he did get a hot blond suppressed by society and the media she claims..But no she's not going brunette, even if it is her natural color. Puzzling.

  16. I agree with a couple of recent posters. Give me KRON’s Jackie Bennett and her weather forecasts any day. Them jugs is nice!

  17. RE: sounding like Bruno sounded like he was saying goodbye

You missed the start where he said he is leaving his morning Philadelphia radio show. He didn't say anything about leaving his knbr gig. btw, does anyone know how much he earns for that 30 mins?

  18. Morning crew gets a six year deal? Really? This is like a sentence with no parole hearings scheduled. What do Bert and his side kick pull down in salary there? At least Jon London was funny. Probably an ass, but funny...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh..ok that's what Bruno was talking about. But,you got to admit it was funny when he said he didn't want to be one of those guys who have 15 different jobs on TV and radio, going through the motions..as Radnich, who has 16 different jobs going through the motions on Radio and TV, tried his best to not flinch!

  20. I wish life were that easy that no matter how awful you were at your job (the KNBR Morning Tool Box), you could get set up long-term if someone else offers you a job. Does the soundboard get an extension too?

  21. Funny how on Friday Gary perked right up when Kate Scott mentioned that she was married to a woman- then he went on and on about it- at least she breaks up the Frat Boy attitude, and seems to know what she's talking about...

  22. Papa loves his notes, his research. Always uses it to show everyone how prepared he is and his understanding of what's happening on the field/court. That's why he got flustered when West corrected him.

West was always listed at at least 6'3" in his playing days, with a freakish wing span. But recent info(a SI article comes to mind) lists West at 6'2" and I guess Jerry wanted to set the record straight. Always thought of the Logo as a big guard anyway.
