Former NBC Bay Area Sportscaster Hawks found dead in Chicago
Daryl Hawks, a former NBC Bay Area Sports anchor, was found dead in a hotel room Thursday morning in Atlanta. Hawks was covering the NBA playoff game between the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks for WMAQ-Ch. 5 in Chicago.
Atlanta police called Hawks' death a medical emergency and not a police call. His body was discovered after he did not appear for the Bulls' morning shoot around. Paramedics were called and he was taken to a local hospital at about 10:30 a.m., according to Atlanta police Sgt. Curtis Davenport.
Hawks, 38, who joined the station in 2008, was married with three children. He spent time at NBC Bay Area, (KNTV) where he anchored weekend sports.
