KCBS Suits Not Entirely Thrilled That Willie Brown Did KGO Ronn Owens Show; Sussman In Line For Pay Cut; Happy KTVU; Roye And Tolbert Winning Radio Combo On Warriors PBP; Hot KGO Traffic Chick Only Dates 'Christian' Guys; Friday Notes; I'm Back

WILLIE BROWN is regularly heard on KCBS every Friday morning during the AM news with Phil Matier of the Chronicle and KPIX.

It's about three minutes of political shop talk and SF/Sacramento/Washington nuggets.

Cut to last Monday during the Ronn Owens show on KGO: Your guest, Willie Brown talking.

My CBS insiders said a few high suits had a hissy fit when they learned Brown did the Owens show although it's well known in SF media circles that Brown and Owens have been friends for over 30 years and in fact, Brown used to be Ronn's attorney.

Nonetheless, execs at 855 Battery were ticked off; the Chronicle could care less--they continue to bleed red ink. Another indication of budget mindedness? The Chron didn't send its own Cal beat writer down to cover the Bears-USC game in LA. Embarrassing. In the print edition, an AP-bylined story was used. Like I said, embarrassing.

FRIDAY ROUND-UP

*Brian Sussman and his dorky KSFO morning zoo bizarro is in for a surprise at the end of the year; "Suss" can expect a 50% pay cut which, given Cumulus' flat business situation, isn't surprising. He won't be the only one.

*Here's proof positive that the alleged FM sports station in town has a Program Director that doesn't know what the hell he's doing. Nice concept: Offend Hispanic community with show that nobody will listen to anyway, kind of like "The Game." He must have pictures.

*Take this with a grain of salt but from a good KTVU source, the natives are relatively happy since the Fox takeover. It's early of course.

*Best NBA play-by-play radio team hands down: Our illustrious Warriors tandem of Tim Roye and Tom Tolbert. Hard to believe they've only been together barley a year. Chemistry? Check. Knowledge? Check. Sense of humor? Check. Tolbert gets a little too giddy every now and then but he and Roye make the broadcast a pleasure to listen to. That would be good.

*A big thanks to all of you that contributed to this website --overwhelmed. By the way, it takes a helluva lot of time and energy to keep this running 24/7. Being that I'm the one-man show that writes, sells ads, makes sure the crappy tech elements are in place, yeah, it's nice to keep it going. Huzzah to all.

*That extremely hot and gorgeous traffic lady on KGO Radio in the afternoon, (she's also at KRON) is single. But she only dates very religious Christian guys--yeah, must be tens of thousands here. Good luck.

*Overused words/slogans that are a pain in the ass: haters, selfies, just sayin', I'll take my answer on the air, And, oh, by the way?.

*If you, like me, like something, enjoy reading someone like a columnist or writer, just because it's on the Internet, it's not against the law to pay to read that person's work. We've managed to create a new generation that thinks and believes that everything is FREE. Wonderful society.

Baggarly Hit Piece on KNBR's Larry Krueger; Yours Truly Does the 'Will and Willie Show' and Kills; Wednesday 415 Media Mash and Notes

Andy Baggarly, I guess, had an epiphany.

Baggarly, for those of you who care, is the alleged Giants "Insider" for CSNBayArea.

Although since Baggs has never really broken any significant news story, his body of work is sort of scant.

Except for killing on Jeopardy and wearing sun glasses in the press box, nobody knows for sure just what Baggy does.

Maybe this explains why he chose to write a hit piece on KNBR's Larry Krueger. I myself have at times been critical of Krueger, but making inferences about a nearly decade-old brouhaha that had been massively overblown seems a little curious and out of place.

Sort of funny and desperate at the same time.

Here's what I think: I think the Baggar wanted to stir the pot which sounds reasonable since he doesn't report anything of substance while covering the Giants. The whole let's not pick on Latin players would have significant more meaning and traction if the messenger was sincere. I don't believe the Baggar is sincere.

Kruger, according to a close source at Knibber, was furious over the article and called a lawyer. Because Baggarly never mentions him by name, (which I'm sure was done on purpose), there will probably be no legal ramifications but the damage is done. This story ain't over, folks.

MEDIA NOTES: I was a guest on the "Will and Willie Show", (Will Durst and Da Mayor, Willie Brown), last night at the Gold Dust Lounge at the Wharf. Had a blast. The show was both televised and broadcast for Clear Channel --I'll send a link soon and talk more about the show soon...That big dust-up at KRON involves a family matter and while there's a lot of tension and angst most of the troops are trying their best to move on...Lee Housekeeper, the big time SF PR King came by and shook hands with yours truly. What impeccable taste...Migrated over to Original Joe's in North Beach--packed to the rafters even on a Tuesday night. Mother Duggan was at the end of the bar exchanging pleasantries...Every time I make it over to the Wharf it reminds me of old 70's, Streets of SF fare: the Alioto's restaurant sign, 12 million tourists, the pungent crab aroma, (nice), and absolutely NO parking which is just as well since the cab ride from Boulevard sent me back 15 bucks--what a bargain...Talk later.

The Most Powerful Figures in SF Media: Chronicle's Matier And Ross; KGO-TV Still Doesn't Acknowledge Stricken Reporter, Ishimaru; Thursday Opener

http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/personality/phil-matier-2/Phil Matier and Andy Ross, the Chronicle's Investigative dynamic duo, "Matier and Ross", are the most powerful figures in Bay Area media.

One of the town's leading PR figures, (the person asked for anonymity), noted Matier in particular with his multiple platforms, (KPIX, KCBS), carries huge cachet in SF media circles and beyond.

"On the BART strike and its aftermath alone, both the unions and management felt the wrath of their, (M&R), reporting. I'm sure BART was just thrilled the public got wind of the $3 grand cost of sandwiches.", offered the PR person.

Beyond the BART imbroglio, Matier and Ross were all over the new Bay Bridge fiasco and its continuing issues involving safety.

More than just having name access to some of the biggest and most influential politicians in both the city and Sacramento, the pair can often set the tone of the day's biggest news story and subsequent pick-up by newspapers and TV and radio.

Sometimes this access can be problematic particularly when it involves Willie Brown who is a frequent mention in Matier and Ross' column and appears regularly every Friday morning with Matier on KCBS and KPIX too. Then again, stories like this tend to lend credence to the notion that Brown tries diligently not to appear overly cozy with SF's Woodward and Bernstein. Skeptics wonder what would happen if Brown were to become the target of an investigation, how would Matier and Ross cover it, or would they? Of course they would.

*Whoever is responsible for the PR over at KGO-TV must be asleep at the wheel or severely incapable of doing their job. The ABC O and O station at 900 Front continues not to even acknowledge the situation affecting one of its longest-tenured reporters, Heather Ishimaru, who recently suffered a stroke and is unable to speak. Presumably, KGO is sensitive to possible pending litigation involving Ishimaru and management. That's understandable but saying nothing is both insulting and insensitive, not only to its viewers but employees too.

We hope this policy might be altered soon.
