KCBS Suits Not Entirely Thrilled That Willie Brown Did KGO Ronn Owens Show; Sussman In Line For Pay Cut; Happy KTVU; Roye And Tolbert Winning Radio Combo On Warriors PBP; Hot KGO Traffic Chick Only Dates 'Christian' Guys; Friday Notes; I'm Back

WILLIE BROWN is regularly heard on KCBS every Friday morning during the AM news with Phil Matier of the Chronicle and KPIX.

It's about three minutes of political shop talk and SF/Sacramento/Washington nuggets.

Cut to last Monday during the Ronn Owens show on KGO: Your guest, Willie Brown talking.

My CBS insiders said a few high suits had a hissy fit when they learned Brown did the Owens show although it's well known in SF media circles that Brown and Owens have been friends for over 30 years and in fact, Brown used to be Ronn's attorney.

Nonetheless, execs at 855 Battery were ticked off; the Chronicle could care less--they continue to bleed red ink. Another indication of budget mindedness? The Chron didn't send its own Cal beat writer down to cover the Bears-USC game in LA. Embarrassing. In the print edition, an AP-bylined story was used. Like I said, embarrassing.

FRIDAY ROUND-UP

*Brian Sussman and his dorky KSFO morning zoo bizarro is in for a surprise at the end of the year; "Suss" can expect a 50% pay cut which, given Cumulus' flat business situation, isn't surprising. He won't be the only one.

*Here's proof positive that the alleged FM sports station in town has a Program Director that doesn't know what the hell he's doing. Nice concept: Offend Hispanic community with show that nobody will listen to anyway, kind of like "The Game." He must have pictures.

*Take this with a grain of salt but from a good KTVU source, the natives are relatively happy since the Fox takeover. It's early of course.

*Best NBA play-by-play radio team hands down: Our illustrious Warriors tandem of Tim Roye and Tom Tolbert. Hard to believe they've only been together barley a year. Chemistry? Check. Knowledge? Check. Sense of humor? Check. Tolbert gets a little too giddy every now and then but he and Roye make the broadcast a pleasure to listen to. That would be good.

*A big thanks to all of you that contributed to this website --overwhelmed. By the way, it takes a helluva lot of time and energy to keep this running 24/7. Being that I'm the one-man show that writes, sells ads, makes sure the crappy tech elements are in place, yeah, it's nice to keep it going. Huzzah to all.

*That extremely hot and gorgeous traffic lady on KGO Radio in the afternoon, (she's also at KRON) is single. But she only dates very religious Christian guys--yeah, must be tens of thousands here. Good luck.

*Overused words/slogans that are a pain in the ass: haters, selfies, just sayin', I'll take my answer on the air, And, oh, by the way?.

*If you, like me, like something, enjoy reading someone like a columnist or writer, just because it's on the Internet, it's not against the law to pay to read that person's work. We've managed to create a new generation that thinks and believes that everything is FREE. Wonderful society.

  1. What's the name of the hot radio traffic chick? Let me be the judge of her hotness. Another overused slogan/statement that grates me is: "me thinks you..."..
    Where did that come from?

  2. Would love to see Tim and Tom replace Fitz on TV. Knowing what kind of guy TC Firehouse is leaves a bad taste in my mouth whenever I watch a Warriors game. As image-conscience as the Dub's owners are, I've been surprised they have kept him around. Giggle's negative reputation really sticks out amongst all the good stories surrounding the franchise nowadays.

  3. I caught Tim and Tom for the first time last night. I like Tommy but I'm still not sure about him on the Warriors radio broadcast. Maybe it was a little too much of the same of what he does on his show when I expect a little less humor and blurting things out. But it is better than someone doing it very dry. I remember not liking Kruk calling Giants games at first with all the "can of corn" trying too hard schtick so I'm sure I'll get use to Tommy after a bit.

  4. If KCBS wants to pay Brown for the other 23 hours and 57 minutes, then fine. Otherwise, don't expect the loyalty for only 3 minutes of work.

Let's see if the Hispanic community gets upset over the Game's promo/show. Or the hosts. Otherwise, are we just talking about people here outside of the demographic THINKING that they should be offended?

  5. I agree. Just ask his former buddy Papa (off the record) how Fitz stabbed him in the back to steal his job as the Warriors anouncer. Truly shameless company stooge with no integrity whatsoever.

  6. As a Hispanic and sports fan I am looking forward to hearing Victor talk sports. But I also am in sales and marketing and find this ethnographic targeting racist. The 3 Amigos may be funny to most but in a year where more Hispanics were accepted to California Colleges than Caucasians we don't need a sports radio station trying to exploit our culture just so more people will listen.

    1. When California colleges encourage illegal aliens to get in, and set quotas for other achievers, then it's easy to get the quantity of hispanicos vs. the quality of others.

  7. Sussman will probably take that "Radio Wages, Half Off Sale", and like it. At least he keeps his position. Meanwhile, I stay away from that Morning Show. Good luck to him, but it's not for me anymore. Anytime I listen to ksfo morning for over 15 minutes, I find myself thinking of hitting the radio with either a flyswatter or a brick, whichever is closer. The easy option is to turn the dial, which I quickly do at 5am when Matt Ray is finished.

    1. So true, 3:21 PM.

Speculating yesterday about what radio hosts did before the Internet, Brian inadvertently self-disclosed, "The talent had talent."

Wonder whether either one of the “Morning Show” duo—like others confronting the dilemma of a pay cut versus unemployment—will attempt similar face-saving or self-ingratiation: "This job is such a pleasure and the management so altruistic that we would do it for nothing. We come to work every day feeling guilty about accepting corporate money for performing our true life passion."

Please re-think that one, cause it aint true, and never has been.

  9. Sussman sidekick chick is unbearable

  10. The whole show is unbearable, but I agree Katie is more so. Her laugh, her voice, her comments, the way she keeps saying yeah, yeah. This is suppose to pass for an intelligent radio personality. Brian deserves a 50% pay cut, whatever they are paying him is too much. They have (Katie and Brian) have sunk as low as they can. calling Nancy Pelosi and old woman, the kept repeating it, old, old she is an old hag.
I know Nancy is in her seventies, but so was Ronald Reagan when he ended his presidency. The KSFO morning show use to have Phyllis Schafly on quite often I believe she is in her eighties, I can't stand Phyllis Scafly, but I would never ever attack her age. We will (if we are lucky all be old some day). Yesterday the attacked Elizabeth Warren on her looks, this is so low class, and appeals only to the lowest denominator. If you disagree with someone on issues, then debate that. Attacking someone's looks (perhaps John Boehner's tan is fair game) and appearance (dress, haircut etc.) is such an easy and coward way to do it.

  11. I'm wondering if SFGate is dumbing down its coverage to encourage people who want news to gravitate (and pay) for SF Chronicle.com.

I really have a hard time believing the biggest thing going on in the Bay Area right now is "California Fall Colors Reach Their Peak"or Stars hitting the red carpet for the Hollywood Film Awards.

  12. I thought this blurb was about Doggie Diner

  13. I remember Doggie Diner. I remember when in the early 70's the hipster moving up families bragged that after little league games they took the kids to McDonalds for the newly famous 'big mac'. Since the rest of us were still eating mom's burgers on bread.
Funny, how all is perception..people felt superior and modern to eat a big mac back then...and now they feel superior and modern to say they never eat a big mac.
