Rod Brooks, the KNBR host, who has been the 49ers radio field reporter, was relieved of his duties by KNBR management. Apparently, the decision, according to both station and Niners' sources was mutual.
Brooks, whose wife recently gave birth to the couple's first child, was unavailable for comment.
Brooks last game was the 49ers-Dallas contest back in September. He's been the sideline reporter since 2006.
A 49ers insider told me the move was more from the KNBR end: "Rod and KNBR reached a mutual agreement that he not continue his job down on the sidelines--we, (49ers) didn't object and were OK with the decision."
Brooks continues his co-hosting duties with the "Fitz and Brooks" show on KNBR 680, (weekdays Noon-
3 PM).
A KNBR source told me that while Brooks enjoyed his 49ers gig, the amount of travel, particularly cross-country trips began to take its toll. And coincidentally, Brooks became a father. That factor may have played a part.
Said the Knibber source: "He wasn't thrilled with the decision, but I don't think he's that upset--He wants to be home with his wife and kid."
