Lee Rodgers Passing One-Year Later; Last Interview on KSCO

Friday marks the one-year anniversary of the passing of Lee Rodgers, one of the greatest radio broadcasters and talk-show hosts ever.

His last broadcast was with me and I'm honored to have interviewed him. Here's the link, from Jan. 24, 2013. Scroll down to access it.

I often wrote that although my politics were vastly different than Rodgers I nonetheless made it a point to listen to him because of the quality of his show, particularly his KSFO morning show with Melanie Morgan and Officer Vic.

Rodgers was cranky a lot but his spectacular usage of the English language and overall broadcast guidance was appointment radio. He was, if nothing else, passionately consistent and his show was entertaining. He was a tremendous interviewer too with a commanding voice and on-air presence.

I knew that Rodger's health had been in decline days before he most graciously agreed to appear on my program and thus, was his utmost classy to the end.

Lee Rodgers last broadcast on KSCO Rich Lieberman Show Jan. 24

Lee Rodgers passed away Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013.

Little did I know that his appearance on my show just a week earlier would be his last broadcast on air.

Here is the link to that show.

RIP Lee.

Breaking: Former KGO/KSFO Talker Lee Rodgers is Dead

OMG. This is tough.

RIP, Lee Rodgers is dead.

I don't know all the details. I just know he has passed.

UPDATE: 9: 21 PM: Lee underwent a 13 hour operation for a heart by-pass, and his wife said he just couldn't pull through.

I'm at a total loss for words. He was just on my radio show last week.

I'm devastated.

When I know more, I will get back to you. In the meantime, I offer all my condolences to the Rodgers family and wife.

Developing...

UPDATE: Lee's former co-host, Melanie Morgan, from KSFO has this post.
