KRON-TV, the venerable SF television station that has been a local albatross for years, since going independent in 2002, is selling its landmark building at 1001 Van Ness Avenue, and building a "state of the art" studio at a yet unknown location in the city, according to a well-placed station source.
The selling price has not been disclosed, but the property is in a prime real-estate area of the city, and is one of the station's most prized assets.
In 1967, KRON moved its studios and offices to the 1001 address. It was the former site of the Roman Catholic cathedral of SF. The TV transmitter was moved to Sutro tower in July of 1973.

*The station , according to the same source, (who asked his name not to be used due to the nature of the information provided), will be "farming out" the master control operations jobs to a company in Atlanta. That move is expected to lead to significant layoffs at KRON. The news was sent to the station via the local IBEW union, (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers).
