Star Wars

SHE (countess Heather) CANNOT STAND HER-- (Diva Haener) --LIKEWISE, SHE HATES THE HELL OUT OF HER TOO

It's come down to this: professionally,  Julie Haener and her chief rival at KTVU, Heather Holmes are on board (why wouldn't they be, you ask, hold on) --and that's the proper etiquette.

Privately, they DESPISE one another.

Haener, who has a multitude of ego-oriented issues, (don't fall for the cutesy look and appearance) seethes at the sight and notices about Holmes, who very quietly but vociferously campaigns for her (JH) job at 10 PM on the main KTVU News (not sloppy TV36(6)

A HUGE issue (among many) at FOX/Oakland: the Holmes/Haener conflict is more than your garden-variety battle royale: Haener knows that HH has all but put her career on hold to jettison the 10 PM gig. It was not so long ago that Holmes gave the suits a virtual ultimatum --play me or trade me--KTVU balked but held her down (giving her a modest pay raise) and is now playing a sort of rope-a-dope. As they  buy time, real things happen.

Fox execs have huddled privately about how to placate both but so far, they're failing miserably. The EGO has landed. And we haven't even touched the ring yet.

2 bada-bings.

Is There Something I'm Missing About KTVU's Heather Holmes?

Of all the mail I get about local TV media anchors, KTVU's Heather Holmes gets a lot of attention.

I mean, a lot.

Frankly, I've never understood the whole Heather phenomena --I think she's OK on air but nothing really special actually to me and I don't mean this as a knock, but she comes across as sort of impersonal --just my opinion.

She's a capable newsreader but I don't see anything standing out although I guess she must look like something even though it hasn't registered my way.

Obviously, you all disagree.

And please, don't be snotty.

KTVU's Heather Holmes Purse Stolen From News Truck Outside OPD HQ; Oakland Takes Hit Too; Tuesday Opener

Heather Holmes of KTVU was doing a live shot outside the Oakland Police headquarters Monday Night when her purse was stolen from an adjoining news truck.

Ironically, Holmes was reporting on a mugging that took place in the city earlier in the day.

Unfortunately, this isn't the only time KTVU has been hit.

And a KGO-TV news crew was robbed at gunpoint.

This is total bs. This is an embarrassment to Oakland. And it's a bummer too because by and large Oakland is a cool city; a city on the rise with a vibrant downtown, new restaurants and a booming art scene and renaissance in many neighborhoods.

But Oakland, my hometown, is still full of crime. It stinks too that Oakland doesn't have enough cops on the street to combat crime. What took place on Monday night, as bad as it was, and I'm talking about both the woman who was mugged and Holmes having her purse swiped, could have been worse, nonetheless it was bad, plain and simple.

I've mostly stayed away from reporting on these incidents because it's happened elsewhere but more so in Oakland. That sucks.

I've been asked about this subject numerous times and I don't have an answer. Does it mean that stations will be covering less news in Oakland because of these incidents? I hope not.

Oakland, as I said, has a lot going on, positively too, not just the crummy news about crime and the lack of cops on the streets. How sad is it that a city of over 400,000 people have barely 600 policemen? But that's another story.

That news people and their staff are getting robbed and in some cases at gunpoint, needs immediate attention and right away. Not that when it involves news media people is it any worse than the citizens on the street who are themselves victims of crime.

But Oakland has to move on this and immediately. This is serious business. And it needs to be dealt with right away.

Snotty People; Jazzy KCSM; Katie Couric would be Great on CNN; RIP Jim Lange; Thursday Opener

Oh, so now you have a heart. Pious one. It's a damn live shot with snot coming out of her nose. What? She's supposed to get a pass because she's hot? Please. What if she was ugly? It would be seen in Korea right now. Probably is due to this.
Don't be so damn snotty.

*I mentioned KCSM as a "diamond in the rough" yesterday. Redact that. They've been great for years. We take them for granted.

In the middle of the downpour driving around the Berkeley Hills I go to 91.1 FM and hear some old Branford Marsalis. Bravo. How calm, how cool, how mellow. Last week, in between a pledge break, out comes a voice from the past, Sonny Buxton, retro-SF-radio master. I don't know how KCSM does it, but by god, they do it so well.
Give some dough to the fine folks over in San Mateo.

*"Armstrong and Getty" and Sacramento: Birds of a feather...

*Out of the 415 but worth an observation: CNN can do no worse if they plucked Katie Couric to fill the vacant Piers Morgan slot. She's a decent interviewer, she's attractive and she'd own the A25-54 woman demo. Men seem to like her too.

*Someone asked the exact amount of how much debt on Young-KRON 1001 Van Ness building. I don't know that but it's several millions I'd guess.

*The same people that bitch and moan about showing snot emanating from a TV reporter probably watch KQED and think olive is a cool color.

*Radnich was cranky yesterday for no apparent reason.

*Jim Lange was a very nice person. My late brother was on the "Dating Game" and won. The date didn't go so well, I was told, but one of the lasting images was Mike telling me Lange was cool.
RIP Jim.
