Jen Seelig is a total incompetent. Talk with anyone who has worked for KCBS, and they’ll tell you she is total overwhelmed and out of her league with this job. She also plays favorites and has petty habits that makes the KCBS newsroom an unpleasant place to work. And as Rich pointed out, doesn’t like men and has fired many of the veterans reporters and anchors Rich is absolutely right; I worked at KCBS in the newsroom for 3 years and saw a lot of good reporters, anchors and producers leave, either by being fired, bought out of their contracts or simply left in disgust. How she ascended to this important role with a once-premier radio station would normally be a surprise, but the current situation is the perfect for an incompetent like Jen Seelig to thrive. . I noticed the morale at the station started going downhill shortly after I got there. I have a good friend who was one of their better reporter/anchors, but he hated Seelig because she was constantly interfering with his work and he got tired of it. Stress, bad morale, a lack of creativity; all these negatives fall squarely in Jen Seelig’s lap.
KNX has a stellar female ND… and the female KGO Asst NDs did all the heavy lifting. Your sexism is showing, just like the GMs who only hired male NDs. Bye bye dinosaurs!
8:29/10:29PM - Julie Chin at KNX was let go last month. I guess KNX “had” a stellar ND. Not that “penis brain” as per 6:37PM is correct in his assertion. Seelig at some time was also in charge of KCBS LA news radio. Seems that station no longer exists.
Rich, can you check out KCBS webpage and go to MORE than NEWS STAFF, Anchors, Reporters, Sports and Traffic sites. It is just amazing how many of the faces on their are no longer with the once great KCBS.

Karel did his KGO show high as a kite from his backyard shed in Long Beach. Instead of taking ownership for not treating his microphone like a loaded gun, he of course chose to throw his brand new weekend sound engineer under the bus. The guy forgot to pot him down during the top of the hour restroom run. Karel never takes any responsibility for his mistakes and is verbally abusive when he doesn’t get his way. The entire staff took pleasure hearing the PD actively avoiding his phone calls during the week. More ego than talent, and absolutely no discipline.

Rich, this is one of the BEST Pieces you have ever done. Radio is, and has been in trouble in SF for about 15 yrs. I had a 43+ year career in SF at some very important stations. I retired, at gunpoint, about 9 years ago. The thing that has destroyed all of radio is underfunded owners who get rid of good talent because the cost too much. They are replaced by younger cheaper and less experienced people who think just because they are at ONCE Great Call letters That they are Very Talented and worthy of their positions. What they don't realize is those once Great Call Signs and stations have dropped their standards for talent and use only Price Point to make decisions. Rich, Kudos on this very good commentary. Let's have more of this.
