And say what you want about affirmative action. Dennis was the model of leadership making a concerted effort to find and develop someone with potential from an under represented background on TV news during the 1970s.
He seized the opportunity, worked hard to hone his craft and image. And took none of it for granted.
Dennis exudes positive aura and confidence, he doesn't need affirmative action, he's the epitome of how hard work rewards you with being the most trusted and admired in the greater Bay-Area, RIP Mr. Richmond, God Bless, you're already being missed
Already expected, he look dying starting at Julie last day, Julie visit, no surprise! Funny thing is he get to see who replace Julie at the station before leaving.
RIP Dennis Richmond. I grew up watching him as a kid. He exuded command and gravitas. No bull, no razzle dazzle, just deliver the news. Anybody else remember a newspaper comic strip in the late 1980s, perhaps 1990s in which Richmond was highlighted as an exemplary African American newscaster? I wish I could remember the name of the artist.
Dennis was a beacon of reliability and trustworthiness in an era when local news anchors were pillars of truth. His cool, calm, and collected demeanor made him a steady presence in our living room, delivering the news with unwavering professionalism. As a casual viewer, I didn’t know or work with him personally, so I’ll leave the off-camera stories to those who did. But as someone who watched, I’ll always remember him as the kind of journalist we could count on—every single night.
In other news, on Monday I announced that Rich and I had reached an agreement in which I would immediately cease trolling him. For context—and for those who aren’t aware—I have long been the most persistent troll on Rich’s site, dating back to its days as a written blog.
I’m pleased to report that our “cease-fire” remains intact; I haven’t trolled Rich since Monday. While I acknowledge that the situation is still extremely fragile and delicate, I remain confident that this step could pave the way for lasting peace between Rich and me.
KGO 7 did not mention anything about Dennis passing. KPIX, NBC 11 and KRON did. And everyone left out Frank during the interview, Roth, Sports Anchor, Tom Vakar, no Elaine Corral. They all say nice things about him but we heard the opposite with two reporters leaving.
It’s very unfortunate Dennis lived to see the complete rot that has infiltrated every aspect of KTVU. Channel 2 rightly devoted nearly the entire day to interviews, video clips and other remembrances of Mr. Richmond. How jarring it was to then see KTVU jump immediately into the abomination that is, “Like It Or Not,” a program that’s 100% antithetical to everything he stood for.
This morning on Mornings on 2, while airing a tribute to Dennis Richmond, KTVU inexplicably played footage of Gavin Newsom meeting Trump on the tarmac—then cut to a clip of Elon Musk awkwardly jumping on a stage, all while still reading about Dennis.
After more than 40 years of service, Dennis had to watch KTVU spiral down the toiltet as his health declined. How sad. At this point, dopes broadcasting out of their basements on public access television (a la Wayne’s World) do an infinitely better job than the incompetent nincompoops at the shitshow better known as ktvu.
I didn’t see that but saw when they displayed a b&w graphic of Dennis Richmond with his year of birth - year of death. One problem: they displayed it while reading a story about a shooting in Redwood City.
Every news station/paper acknowledged his passing- the chronicle, Mercury News, KRON, NBC, CBS- all of them EXCEPT KGO. Classless if you ask me. Shameful really. Like it or not he was a major figure here in the bay. And KGO wants to pretend he doesn’t exist. Even some outlets in Sac reported his death. I hope someone from KGO sees this.
RIP Dennis.
ReplyDeleteHe left a lasting impression on Bay Area viewers like no other.
That stoicism. Such a pro for us at home.
there's another word for that alleged "stoicism", but one should not speak thusly of the deceased.

DeleteNo one ever associated DR with AA. Don't try to conflate everything.

DeleteThe story as told to the Chronicle is he masterfully bluffed his way in as a typist.
DeleteKTVU mgmt quickly saw the talent and got him set up with a scholarship at Columbia.
And he blossomed…all from a no plan road trip out west after the army.
"say what you want about affirmative action"...
DeleteWhy would you even bring that up? Is that where we're at in this country?

ReplyDeleteRIP
ReplyDeleteDennis Richmond ❤️🙏
A Man of the highest caliber. I had the privilege of interviewing him during my stint at KGO. Impeccable.

His hiccups were legendary, as was his ability to overcome this particular disability.
ReplyDeleteThe way KTVU is crumbling, killed him.
ReplyDeleteNo, he had lived well past his life expectancy and was clearly in pain... no more pain..that's good.

ReplyDeleteFrank is a washed up out of work stiff no body cares. Peter Felch overated news reader.
DeleteThe trolling cease fire made me laugh out loud at a very inappropriate place...thanks...I guess
ReplyDeleteIt made me laugh too! Especially following such a poignant comment about Dennis. A little levity is always good.

ReplyDeleteFunny u say this, I heard Dennis found the show entertaining and would watch it in pastime!
