Rich Lieberman LIVE on Saturday

  1. from Z in Emeryville - some Bay Area radio recent changes

KDOW 95.3 FM and 1220 AM is now broadcasting about 5 hours of Bloomberg business news in the early morning that used to be on 960 AM. Tom Keen at 4 am live from NY is informative, not just stock market stuff, with Bloomberg Surveillance and crew. The 95.3 signal is good in the East Bay, the 1220 AM is not. I think they start the Bloomberg feed at 2 am with Bloomberg Daybreak which is quality world news, maybe better than the KQED live feed of Morning Edition which starts at the same time.

92.7 KEXC San Francisco - KEXP in Seattle, an independent, non-profit music station, bought 92.7 for $2 or $3 million at a bankruptcy auction. They sound like a very good college radio station playing indy music. Currently, most of the content is rebroadcast from KEXP in Seattle but they are adding more Bay Area-focused music content. If stations are selling for a few million, why doesn't someone with with a sense of public service buy some and put some quality or imaginative content on the air.

  2. Rich, Any thoughts on the retirement of Mick LaSalle, movie critic, from the SF Chronicle? He was one of the reasons to read the pick section and subscribe, at one time, to that paper

    1. Is anyone still reading the Chronicle? I fought doing so for years, but I finally gave up. It just became irrelevant, plus too many writers from elsewhere with no Bay Area history, sense, or ties. Print, radio, and tv ... it's all bad news, just when we need it most. Not sure what to do.
