Over 50G of you believe there is, minus a few electronic bots and coke machines in Russia.
*Kris Ankarlo, of KCBS, button up the side, mumbling commentrary every time you anchor and I'll give you a more thorough listen. You came to the Bay Area from El-Lay and here I thought you had taste. The consensus in the newsroom? They were so desperate for a body they had to recruit you from LA.*The real money commitment from Nexstar to KRON: about $4.7M which should buy at least better coffee in the lunchroom and Pam Moore's salary.
*Sunday FM Radio pleasure: 103. 7 80's hits--this morn I delighted to Casey Kasem's TOP 40 countdown from 1982. Wow, what a cool show even thoguh I had to endure "Air Supply."*Speaking of which, a "long-distance dedication"--Dear KCBS editors: get off Facebook during work hours and scan the news wires--your mother's eggplant pictures can wait. Back to the countdown.
*"#2, from Damon Bruce to Audacy: "Don't go breaking my heart"--Elton John and Kiki Dee, cue the orchestra, Ray:,
*THE THINKING at NBC Bay Area is that if Raj Mathai wants to date Janelle Wang, fine, as long as no one gets hurt and the romance doesn't affect the work on the desk. The people behind the camera in San Jose thinks the whole deal is fine and funny if not a bit problematic--especially to Raj's wife and Jenny's bf. Then again, they're just friends, right? Giggle, giggle.*KGO Radio could have got the attention of Jim Gabbert-=-who has the money to buy it and maker it the radio, (AM) version of "TV20" but el cheapo Gabbert wanted to steal it as opposed to a penny-on-dollar offer. Gabbert is so cheap he used dogs to give the station ID on Channel 20, why? So he didn't have to pay 'em.
*ABC News, on second thought, is 86ing the idea of looking for a property downtown SF --for its Bay Area news bureua--instead, it'll carry forth at its SF Embarcaero/KGO building because Disney not only wants to build a better Bay Area, it wants to do so, thrifty/*If Ken Wayne is told to hit the bricks from KRON, he can go back to KTVU but the money offered would be barely enough to cover a burger at Clown Alley.
You have to wonder why the leadership of San Francisco has done NOTHING about THEIR radio stations KGO & KCBS.
ReplyDeleteNot only the city of license, but the designated emergency broadcast station for the city. (KCBS)
So in todays world, the city of license means nothing ?
They don't care.
Just like they don't care about shoplifting & crime.
Not much the city can do! As long as the emergency broadcast portion of the license is not violated KCBS is withing their rights to run the station as the see fit! The bigger issue with KCBS, is the suits upstairs keep throwing pocket change at KCBS Operations so it remains in first gear grinding out bad radio!
DeleteIf ktvu is t going to bring back somerville then ken would be a perfect second choice for me. He’s smart. Solid. And has tons of experience. He’s a little boring at times. But I’ll take boring any day compared to the garbage that’s on right now. He doesn’t try to play anchor. He IS an anchor.
ReplyDeleteI love comments like this. How do you know he's "smart"? Have you administered an IQ test? Do you know him. Were you his college advisor?
DeleteAre you aware almost all of the other material anchors read is researched and written by other people? They just read it. A bot could do the same, and someday they surely will.
Cause I worked with him for years
Delete@3:30 'A bot could do the same, and someday they surely will.'
DeleteNo lies detected. It's coming for sure. They already have bots reading 'news stories' on YouTube. It sounds all fine and dandy until it mispronounces a word so obvious to the average ear. Let's just zap the human element out of everything as we get into the back seat of a driverless car, I guess.
All these bots and Chat GPI stuff...I dunno. Kinda frightening. Really...what do we need people for if AI is gonna do all the work. And therein lies the danger. One of the Silicon Valley dudes was on the news recently trying to subtly say that there's 'probably' nothing to worry about. A.I. will never takeover. There's a kill switch. Wink. Wink, Meantime the young Silicon Valley guy's voice sounded like Beelzebub himself.
I'm worried.
To Anonymous 3/19 at 3:30PM:
DeleteI also worked with Ken Wayne and can attest to the fact that he is smart and a heck of a guy. Judging from your post, I would say a lot smarter and nicer than you.
“Cause I worked with him for years”
DeleteBut how smart can you be when you use “cause” When you mean “because,” two different words?
Gabbert thinks he's going to take it with him.
ReplyDeleteForgot about that place...I'm gonna start referring to the whole state as "Clown Alley".
ReplyDeleteI loved the burgers at Cliwn Alley. Frisco’s good old days.
DeleteGabbert is about 86 years old. He is not buying anything.
ReplyDeletePlus he gave all his money to the land trust and lives off a yearly distribution.
DeleteHe used to go to Aunt Ruby’s in San Rafael years ago. He and his friend would pick up young bar patrons.
DeleteRaj Mathai and Janelle Wang....only in California.
ReplyDeleteMeh no tj holmes and Amy robach vibes
DeleteRaj Mathai is an asshat thinking he is the Indian Walter Cronkite. If NBC management were smart, they would downside by giving getting rid of Mathai. Move Terry McSweeney to the daily 5:00, 6:00 and 11:00 newscasts paired with Jessica Aguirre.
DeleteKeep Audrey Asistio at solo at 4:30 and pair her with Janelle Wang for 5:30 and 7:00.
Today, Sunday, on KQED 88.5 they had a show on talk radio.
ReplyDeleteYou can listen to a replay here
How did Talk Radio Get So Politically Lop-Sided?
https://podmust.com/ep/?podcast=on-the-media&epis=SG93IGRpZCBUYWxrIFJhZGlvIEdldCBTbyBQb2xpdGljYWxseSBMb3AtU2lkZWQ/
On KQED 88.5 they followed the airing with a classic SF over-the-top PC promo...for a future show about "LatinX" restaurants.
Never mind that the vast majority of Hispanics and Latino' residents DO NOT like or use "LatinX" to describe themselves or their culture.
Leave it to KQED to push their correct wording.
No wonder conservative talk radio is a success while left wing talk radio is all but gone.
The old AT40s have been in syndication for 15 years now. There's a '70s package and an '80s package. Sadly no one in this market carries the '70s version (KFRC did, back in 2007/2008).
ReplyDeleteAnd that was KFRC on 1550 AM, which the rest of the time ran Scott Shannon's "True Oldies Channel" as well as an occasional Cal Basketball game
DeleteIn the 1980's our school bus driver in the Mt Diablo School District had the radio on the bus tuned to Magic 61 AM I recall the played Big Band! Could you imagine that today? she would be hauled off to the Nuthouse in handcuffs! Happy Sunday All
ReplyDeleteThought Janelle Wang was married to attorney Matt Nelson? Come to think of it her latest Instagram shows her cleaning/repairing storm/water damaged house by herself. Lots pics with just her and her daughter... but Raj Mathai? Don't shit where you eat!
ReplyDeleteUmmm. Could it be her husband took the photo?
DeleteI notice a lot of news people don’t post their husbands. Maybe to give them privacy? I sometimes hear Janelle’s husband in her posts, taking the video.
DeleteExactly 5:20 AM. 3:37 pm has some poor investigative skills
DeleteRaj Mathai is so desperate for Janelle’s body. He’d do anything to get some. He would even go as far as to let her fart in his face, just so he can get a whiff of that stinky fart box. Would he tongue punch the fart box? Probably…
ReplyDeleteMe too awesome!
DeleteHard hitting insider media news!!
DeleteRaj is top notch. Any woman would be lucky to be with him.
ReplyDeleteRaj is full of himself.
DeleteThanks Janelle.
DeleteOk, Raj
DeleteAlways loved Casey Kasem's American Top 40 growing up. They play him a lot on the 70s & 80s Sirius XM channels these days. Those were the best eras for music, imho. And yes...talk radio is dead. Just like James Brown and Fred (and surprisingly not James Gabbert). But it is still Wanted Dead Or Alive if you listen to the Bay Area or Bon Jovi.
ReplyDeleteNow...'Moving up six notches to number three this week...a duet from Raj & Janelle called (Not So) Secret Lovers...And down six notches to number thirty is Mike Mibach and The Mechanics with Just a Gigolo/Nobody Cares For Me (At Ten). And here's your long distance dedication from Ken Wayne to KTVU/FOX2...It's Kenny Rogers 'I Don't Need You'.
Until next week...'Keep reaching for the stars and keep both feet on the ground (Janelle)'. lol And may we all continue to 'Make Love Out Of Nothing At All'. - Air Supply
Yep, me too. Liked listening to American Top 40 as a kid in the '70's and the repeats as an older adult in my 50's and 60's. What a shame about Casey's last days (and after), with his crazy wife Jean keeping him away from his kids, then hikjacking his body and moving it around the country. WTF is wrong with her?
Delete@10:35 I remember that fiasco! Same with James Brown remember? They kept parading the body around for what seemed weeks. Let the men rest for god’s sakes. This is where the Jews and Muslims have it right. Bury the dead within 24hrs, no embalming, no make up, no nice suits and don’t put them up on display. Where’s the dignity?
DeleteIf you want to hear AT-40 every week, go to Sirius XM. In fact, if you want QUALITY RADIO, go to Sirius XM. You won't find it the traditional way any more.
ReplyDeleteI only listen to comercial radio is for the traffic. Other than that it’s Sirius XM.
DeleteLaugh about this, Richie... I was in LA last week and had the radio tuned to KNX (the KCBS of LA). The announcers were professional, transitions into stories were smooth and I see that KNX uses reports filed by KCBS reporters. The ID tag was changed at the end of the story. Audacity has KNX use KCBS stories regarding news from the Bay Area, I guess. Also...there are no sports reports on the station. Interesting. But despite that, KNX was leaps and bounds better than KCBS.
ReplyDeleteJanelle is very fine. Raj? 🫤
ReplyDeleteKen goes back to KTVU, how about Frank go to KRON with half price pay cut just to get back on air and maybe start a relationship with one former co anchor working on KRON.
ReplyDeleteIS Ken Wayne any relation to John Wayne? Might he be the bastard son of Wayne Newton? Inquiring minds want to know…
ReplyDeleteHas Raj made a pass at Emma Goss yet?
ReplyDeleteWait, nevermind. Professional grifter Goss is already on her second extended leave at KNTV despite being there for less than four months.
Emma Goss is a cutie!
DeleteHi Emma
DeleteKPIX, please get Sara Donkey a wardrobe consultant. She can't dress for the love of money and looks like a cross between a hipster-wannabe and a refugee from the Good Will. Also teach someone to remix the produced spots. Right now the thumping background music is so loud it drowns out the anchor/reporter track. I've actually watched packages and not been able to understand a word that was said by anyone. But I could dance around the living room.
ReplyDeleteI remember reading about some sort of nasty fight over Kasem's will... between his much-younger-bimbo wife (his 2nd wife) and his adult kids from the original baby mama. I also remember a lot of conservatives suddenly "disowning" listening to AT-40 when...only after his death...they found out that Kasem was of Lebanese descent (his parents were full Lebanese)...and (wrongly) labeled him a Muslim (he wasn't).
