And that's the good news.
KTVU's utterly baseless, useless, clueless morning mildew show, "Mornings on Two" is suffering from a ratings disaster. Nobody watches anymore and that's just part of the problem. As a reader pointed out, the stories,(very little) are REPEATED every twenty minutes and when there's hardly any real news, it becomes a tedious watch, even by lame KTVU standards. That's the rule now, not the exception.
Furthermore, and this is the biggie:
Hosts Claudine Wong and Frank Mallicoat are personality-devoid robots. Wait, they have NO personality.
Wong's robotic laughs are benign and Mallicoat is about as exciting as a Milpitas Arbys. He's plain BORING-- a wonder-bread guy with zero chemistry with Wong, much less zero with viewers. The entire package is a non-interesting show with a severe case of YAWN and gloom across the board. The ratings continue to crater and it's apparent KTVU has no answer for this grotesque miscarriage of local TV news on the weekend.
“The stories,(very little) are REPEATED every twenty minutes and when there's hardly any real news, it becomes a tedius watch”
ReplyDeleteThis is exactly why I stopped watching. Watch for an hour and you will have heard three times about a car crash in Fremont, a house fire in Campbell, and some other story that they essentially regurgitated from a police press release. Oh, and awkward forced chit chat that’s so embarrassing it’s hard to watch. They’ve worked together long enough that you think they’d have some sort of chemistry, but none.
Bottom line, it’s apparent they put no effort or thought into the show. And when you have fakes and phonies like Claudine Wrong and Frank Mallidope in front of the camera the problem only becomes magnified.
So is it a surprise their ratings have plummeted? Not at all. And quite frankly they deserve to win the race to the bottom.
I love these ads they now do (I’m surprised Rich hasn’t made fun of them) they shows how hard the producers and adornment editors and writers (Ha! What writers?) work every morning to bring you so much important information. As you say, they regurgitate press releases, period. They don’t even use stringer video much anymore—it’s all amateur cell phone “keyhole” video, and it looks terrible. And in between their brainless anchors make embarrassing “small talk.” An AI chat bot could do better.
DeleteStill better than those clowns @ ABC7 News
DeleteWould they ever consider shaking things up by moving Dave Clark and Pam Cook to weekends?
ReplyDeletePlease tell me this is a joke.
DeleteNow that's something I'd watch!
DeleteI think the Robot from Lost in Space could read stories better then their crew.
ReplyDeleteSo true.
DeleteDanger Rosemary Orozco! Danger! Robo
DeleteWeekends are cratering here in LaLa land, too. Anchors sit and chitchat about nothing. This morning they actually were skipping rope! Goes along with my prediction/warning: when they come for us it will be on Saturday or Sunday morning because there will be no one to report it!
ReplyDeleteThinking they came from the Bay Area....
DeleteI see KTVU also changed their background behind the anchors from the Golden Gate Bridge to the SF Skyline.
ReplyDeleteKRON is the same. Same stories over and over and over again. Might as well listen to KCBS.
ReplyDeleteBut at least they have chemistry together while doing it. But plus!
DeleteGotta love the local news. 54,000 people out of power in Oakland, and the airport is shut down due to a fire at the PG&E substation at 50th and Coliseum Way, and not one peep in TV.
ReplyDeletePlenty of peeping on 5, 7, and 11. Can't say anything about 2. Can't watch that station anymore without taking antacid tablets first.
DeleteA complete shit hole of re-tread obsolete news.
ReplyDeleteDon't watch anymore.
is vitamin ''w'' whisky?
ReplyDeleteostler and john shea are like the same. jenkins ;shea; ostler all ''comforting'' northern european names!(!)
ReplyDeleteWho's the new weather woman on Sunday night KRON4? Morticia Adaams?
ReplyDelete8:55pm - Britney Begley
DeleteIt’s not just their weekend show that sucks, the weekday version is equally as awful.
ReplyDeleteIt’s like they look for the most inconsequential stories with no impact or relevance to 99.99999999% of the viewers and repeat them not just 2-3 times per hour but then for the next 2-3 days on all of their ‘newscasts.’
Perfect summation of their MO. A hamster with a lobotomy has better news judgment.
DeleteWong looks like she's ready to jump through the screen and beat you senseless any time.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the hate about repeat stories on KTVU's morning show.
ReplyDeleteALL morning shows are like this. The whole theory is that daddy and mommy tune in to catch what's going on, or what happened last night. They have the TV on while they're making coffee/shaving/getting dressed...and then they leave. Other people wake up maybe 30-minutes later...and do the same thing. If anyone is watching the entire 2-3 hours, then they need to get a life.
@8:21. Bingo. I don’t know too many people that sit through the entire local morning shows. Repeating the stories every 1/2 hr is fine since the viewers change every 1/2 hour. Unless they’re the “get off my lawn” posters in this blog.
DeleteRich, just listen to those wise words Diana Ross once sang ....
ReplyDelete♫ Mildew in the Morning,
So just walk away,
You can change the channel
The shmutz will go away ...♫
Before you all completely trash KTVU, they at least did have info on the food vendor beaten up outside SAP Center. I watched Brian Hackney on the CW talk about that incident and he said “No word on the condition of the vendor”, so at least KTVU is better than the CW.
ReplyDeleteCompared to Channel 5's awkward morning show, KTVU's is a masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteIt's not just KTVU's weekend version of mornings on 2. On Sunday afternoon 50,000 PG&E customers lost power in the East Bay. Not a single reference to it was on their evening newscasts. But as someone above mentioned, we got to hear about a car crash and a tree that fell on an empty road.
ReplyDeleteCalling them “Morning Mildew” is incredibly disrespectful…to mildew.
ReplyDeleteTheir weekend show is abysmal for all the reasons already cited above, but it’s the complete lack of effort that does it for me.
They make zero effort to find meaningful stories. It’s insulting. The writing is terrible. It’s apparent there’s no coordination of stories or review for cohesiveness. And to make matters worse, it’s clear whoever does writing has no familiarity with the Bay Area geography. And that’s all behind the scenes stuff.
Once on air, the trio meets the dictionary definition of “phoning it in.” There’s zero energy, zero chemistry, and Claudine and Frank have zero interest whatsoever in the stories they read. It’s a small miracle when Frank is able to get through a show without making several dozen gaffes, including mispronunciations, stumbles, mumbles, and everything else that makes his reads choppy and disjointed.
And right when you thought the show has hit rock bottom, now Roberta “Elvira” Gonzalez is beginning to do fill-in anchor duties.
