Thank You, Mr. Scully

  1. I was lucky enough to do several interviews w Scully over the years and got to know him casually. He loved baseball and he loved telling stories about baseball and he loved the people who were around baseball; the players, the scouts, the media folks, and of course the fans. . He was the voice of baseball. Wonderful man. He’ll be missed but he had a wonderful life.

  4. Like Lon Simmons, Vin Scully had the voice and presence. I'll never get that damn Farmer John commercial out of my head! Now as much as us old timers hated "Da Bums" we never took issue with Mr. Scully. Guess he and Lon are now calling games in the hereafter. Can you imagine those lineups? Holy Smokes!

    1. Since I was a kid, that is what I thought heaven was. Watching ball games of the greatest players of all time being narrated by Vin Scully, Lon Simmons, Madden, Bill King, etc. Holy Toledo! I hope that it's true...

  5. Sorry to hear of Vin's passing. RIP Vin.

Now KCBS since this story broke has gone way over the top in my opinion. It must be a very slow news day not sure...but every 5 or 10 minutes another story about Vin. I think they have interviewed half the population about Vin.

  6. Jon Miller IMHO is a far better announcer than Vin Scully. And being a native LA person, I can say Vin had his racist moments. One example I have in mind is the 10 minute diatribe on how Travis Ishikawa is a 3rd generation Japanese American. Dude, he's an American full stop.

    1. No, Vin >> Miller. Jon would agree. Vin doesn't say, "Uh," all the time.

  9. I know all you 49ers fans pridefully say you "turn down the TV volume and listen to radio play by play" (liars)...so you may not know that Vin was the CBS TV commentator who called "The Catch". Heard it again last night and it stands up to time!

  11. Vin Scully was universally lauded, and deservedly so. What a gifted broadcaster and storyteller. See https://www.mercurynews.com/2022/08/03/bay-areas-broadcasting-greats-salute-vin-scully-their-idol/.
