Lt. Jessica Burch Fills in on KPIX Morning as News Anchor and Results Are Horrid

BAD ENOUGH "Lt" Jessica Burch has to TORTURE us with her awful weather reports; KPIX subjected its Bay Area morning viewers (about 20) to Burch's amateur-hour news anchoring!

It was so BAD, it was bad. Is PIX that pathetic and outside the loop that they can't bring in a fill-in news anchor? Dear lord, what a crock.

Lt. Burch delivered news with a slow, awkward, almost methodical pitch. It was weird, bizarre and it was EMBARRASSING, almost comical to a point of ABSURDITY!

This may have been one of the most ridiculous moments in Bay Area TV News history. Frankly, PIX and its new news boss, Lisa White, should be called into the bosses office for this TRAVESTY!

Wait a minute, Scott Warren, you had to OK this so you're just as culpable.

A TOTAL ABOMINATION!

  1. Since July 4, I think KPIX mornings has changed significantly; first they put different CBS Local music compared to weekend mornings (I watch recordings nothing more). Before that they were consistent with the songs every day.

Second thing is everyone is standing and roaming around the set. Unlike before, in the AM, we are not seeing everyone sit in one place (at least the anchors).

About Burch, she was out 3 days last week and Peck filled in for her.

    1. Right after Len Kiese left, that’s when they started to change the pace in the morning show.

It’s somewhat tacky especially when they end the newscast standing at the weather center.

At least the 3pm show would end on the Couch set with Reed and Sara sitting down.

  2. KCBS, about 9:05 AM. Dead silence for a bit, before whoever was on the air started sputtering about how fire lookouts work. My laugh for the day.

  5. KTVU, the best. More permanent and familiar face anchors. KGO, the worst anchor like a kids clown show.

    1. Ktvu is the best at what? Lousy newscasts? Hiring unqualified dunces and has-beens? The most on air people auditions for jobs as social media influencers? Please be more specific.

You forgot that KTVU can't get their mics to work. And what familiar and permanent? It took them a year and a half to hire the permanent male anchor for their flagship show, and their other shows are still in chaos You never have the same people on for longer than a week, except for Bill Martin, who like that eccentric uncle at Thanksgiving refuses to go away.

  6. I don’t know Darren Peck is the odd person out. He’s more than competent. I can’t blame LT. she was probably blindsided by this around 4:15 am.

    1. You can blame the LT for many things but this is not one of them. they just threw her to the wolves.

  7. @11:37AM It would be on archive.org for KPIX but what day specifically is Rich pointing out?

  9. Enough with the sensationalism. You know what a real "TRAVESTY" is? The collective MSM NOT REPORTING THE REAL NEWS! You know what I mean. Prove me wrong. I dare you!

    1. You've said nothing concrete that can be proved, but I do agree with you.

As someone posted here just the other day, the morning meetings are now about what you can't say or it will upset advertisers, and what you can't cover because it's not easy/uncontroversial. That leaves press releases and free PR stories.

    2. One TV reporter in this town is so petrified to leave the newsroom and cover a story. This person is afraid of, covid, gangs, viewers with opinions and ANY backlash or email they may receive about a story. We have to set every interview up online via zoom and skype calls.
      It's a mess.

  10. I wonder how CNBC and the business stations with anchors in SF can hire competent, intelligent, newscasters, who present the news with professionalism and accuracy?! Even the newscasters in the field in Podunk are smooth and relaxed and informative. Maybe the Bay Area stations do not pay well enough for folks to trade Podunk for a shack in San Bruno. You would think that a market of 10 million pairs of eyes would draw some interest from well-trained talking heads. To those writing the checks, look at the fringe news offerings and you will find several qualified candidates who can put a spark the newsroom.

  11. Your idea of an "abomination" is ridiculous. She was fine. If she were black and anchoring for the first time on a morning news show, you'd be claiming she was "god's gift" to mankind.

  12. The San Francisco News Anchor teams need to look at the Sacramento News Anchor teams as the Sacramento teams are way better in their presentation and delivery of the news, weather, and sports. KCRA3 (NBC) blows everyone away as they have the best News team with ABC10 a close second...... it is more informative and informational to follow then the stuff you get in San Francisco or even San Jose.....

  13. Team her up with the KCBS real estate chick!

  14. I thought she did a really good job. For this time period I say keep her there and I am sure she will get better and better.

    1. I saw the LT having lunch with a friend last month. It was during the week and she was still in tv attire. Goodness, the amount of makeup she had on was horrifying. Made me realize we have no idea what she really looks like. Also, she’s very thin - I mean VERY thin. I hope she’s ok.

  16. You are high 8:52… Jessica is gorgeous. She wears very little makeup in person and she is fit. Not sure what your standard is.. but Jessica is doing just fine I’m sure.

    3. I really do not know why he is on the air at all. He is pompous and smug. And him anchoring yesterday was horrible.

  18. She has a funny *something* in her speech that they will probably weed out in time. It makes her sound a little mousy. Other than that she's not *that* bad. There have certainly been worse who have gone on to have long careers on TV, such as Amber Lee, who can't read one sentence in her standup without flubbing something, and who can't take her eyes away from her notes for more than two seconds.

  19. You want to talk about a terrible meteorologist, look no further than Roberta Gonzales, who looks like that boozy mom who keeps showing up at PTA meetings and you wish she would go home. Look up "embarrassment" in the dictionary and it shows her picture.

    1. I like Roberta. You all are so mean, and snarky. No wonder the anchors are having nervous breakdowns.

  21. At least we KCBS listeners got a break as the Pecker took her place for a week. He's much easier to listen to than Burch.

  22. I think Ann Makovec is one of the best news reporters around. I used to love watching her & Phil Matier on Saturday mornings. She may not be the “Barbie Doll” type, but she is competent, intelligent, articulate and has a natural presentation-a real person. She should be in the morning/noon anchor position. Loved Mary Lee, too. Gianna Franco is great. Liked Kenny Choi much more than Ryan Yamamoto. KPIX has missed the mark with the new anchors & I really don’t like watching this news cast any more.

  23. KTVU, I swear Dave Clark has said "yeah" after every news story he reads on the teleprompter for like 15 years . Pam will comment on a story and Clark goes "yeah". Never says anything else, never.

  24. The KPIX crew right now is underwhelming. Why so many recent changes to the staff? The new female crew members I will name Anchor Barbie and the LT Weather are TRASH. Just a few weeks ago, Gail tossed a question back to our local team and the anchor could not answer…REALLY…how do you not know your own stories and features…Lil Barbie fumbled badly!! The weather is just awkward now.
