Jack Hanson, the most steady and congenial #2 weather guy in the biz. He was
Pete Gidding's back-up at
KGO --
Circle 7--in the 70's. Always a #1 in my view.
Hansen also spent time at KRON.
Vitals: good guy. Nice guy. Cool. Calm and well-liked by everyone at KGO. The exact opposite of Giddings.
Real people here. Not the botox lady (Robbie G) or bored to tears (Billy Martin). Shoot, if we had the former baseball manager with the same name, at least the weather reports would sound interesting. As Pete would say, "Just go do it!"
ReplyDeleteI think Robbie is less Botox and more Vodka
DeleteRip Van Lieberman continues to glorifies these guys as if they were really something special. They weren’t. This is more about Rich’s romanticized delusions about a bygone era than reality.
ReplyDeleteWow, talk about being triggered. lol And what’s your point? Yes, it's clear Rich speaks fondly of some anchors from yesteryeae. His opinion is obviously different than yours. Why does that bother you so much? Geez Louise.
DeleteSure, they’re from a different era, but these guys had ‘chops,’ gravitas, knowledge, and viewer respect - all are timeless and essential qualities in the tv business that will never become outdated.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, fast forward to 2022, where Ryan Yamamoto just stuck out his chin an extra 2 inches hoping we’ll take him seriously, and Roberta Gonzalez goes on tv doing her best Elvira impersonation along with a hairdo that fell out of fashion in the late-1960’s.
I interviewed Jack many many years ago about a children's show he hosted early in his career called "Jack's Place." It would be pretty impossible to think of a nicer guy.
ReplyDeleteCould you help identify if a certain voice/image is that of 70s KGO sportscaster John O'Reilly? https://m.facebook.com/groups/remembered/?multi_permalinks=2201874696681036&comment_id=2201900343345138¬if_t=feedback_reaction_generic¬if_id=1653515813981912&ref=m_notif
ReplyDeleteThese guys could make TV happen without the dependence of telepromters and someone taking in their ear. A completely different era of when one had to have talent to be on TV and news did not dominate programming.
ReplyDeleteI remember Van Amburg ignoring the teleprompter and reading off the copies instead.
DeleteTook my mother about 5 seconds in an elevator with Pete Giddings for her to really dislike the guy
ReplyDelete5 seconds? Talk about a snap judgment about a guy she literally didn’t even know.
DeleteWould see Jack in a local Supermarket all of the time. Really nice man!
ReplyDeletePete Giddings was a loyal supporter of my son’s nonprofit in the South Bay for several years. I met Pete twice and he was incredibly gracious and genuinely interested in the conversations we had about ways to support local non-profits. He left a great impression on me. My son and his co-workers all had similar experiences with Pete.
ReplyDeleteThen Lloyd Lindsey Young comes along and changes the entire playing field
