Anybody there, KCBS? Never mind.
*Hey KGO/Circle7 morning and yahoo, Reggie Aqui? Anybody home.
The self-indulged moron made it back to the set (after Covid) with "greetings about a 'new haircut and new suit'" --Only this schmuck survies at a once-proud ABC-SF because Disney has to placate its PC crap and build a better Bay Area. What a farcical clown show and Aqui is head of the moron division.Hey, Circle7, anybody home? Never mind.
*From a KRON point of view, if Pam Moore leaves sooner rather than later, it wouldn't be the most devastating news, but yeah, she has star power and local TV News gravitas. The new KRON, by the way, continues to not act like the old KRON which supercedes any impending Moore news.
*ADD KRON: as long as Vicki Liviakis remains on the anchor desk, I'm good. I think all of us are.*Don't get all freaked out, people, I didn't get up on the wrong side of the bed the other day, I merely brought you the real stuff you want and deserve and why you come here. I'm not beholden to the assorted yahooas that make up a good part of this alleged cosmopolitan area that gets overun by not only garbage on the filthy streets, but the DRECK you watch and listen to on TV and radio. They're nothing special. They are rank amatuers. They need to be CALLED OUT. So there.
*Hey everyone, you're damn right: what a great terrestrial listen: Bloomburg 960 with nonstop news, local traffic/sports and commentary --and NO kars4kids bullshit and commercials onslaught!
*Jobina Fortsen continues to get network interest from back east and it isn't the alphabet network but a surprise third-tier cable network that makes its coin with news, info and a youthful, urban flair--my bet is that Countess Fortsen stays put at Circle7 but they'd better pay up. *Dennis O'Donnell is NOT coming back to KPIX. More than likely, Vern Glenn will be the new #1 sports anchor and probably official come the fall. Glenn has been working overtime and then some. He's due the weeknight nod because he knows the market and has the blessing from the local teams, most notably, the 49ers and at PIX, that part alone is significant.*O'Donnell has been away from the scene almost a year as he deals with a neurological disorder.
*The new GM at PIX has to understand that in order for him (and PIX) to shake things up and make things happen, he has to make a BOLD move. But before that, he also has to acknowledge that the recent hies are DUDS. Not just my take, but everyone under the sun at 855 Battery. The entire staff chat it up every day, from the break room to the lunch room and beyond. Yamamoto (Ryan) is a nice guy, sure but he has ZERO screen presence. Donchey (Sara) is a SoCal LA misfit that the local viewers have tuned out. Period, end of story. *And if Brian Hackney is your savior, then you have problems. He's better but he's not a top dog. A good second baseman but not a shortstop or center fielder.*While Liz Cook certainly lights up the screen, she's not a hallmark anchor. Cook still hasn't developed real news chops (not my feeling, but PIX staff) --her co-workers continue to mention she has an entitled attitude that doesn't sit well with the rank and file. Cook has vastly improved on the anchor desk but she needs to do a whole lot more house-cleaning and perhaps buy some dinner snacks for a few others who share her work space --on and off camera.
*SINCERITY is best even if it's mean and disoriented. As Larry King always said, "be yourself." There's nothing more pathetic than someone trying to be someone other than themselves and it's a scam otherwise.
*Ex KRONvict, Robin Winston is kicking ass in LA at KNBC. I thought so. She has an Ell-Lay vibe and beauty that rocks the southland. It was meant to be on several fronts.
I don't get all the hate for KCBS. I'm a longtime writer here at one of the TV stations...and tune in at various points on my off days to see what if anything is going on. Yeah, Al Hart and Lois are no longer there. But the anchors/reporters keep me informed. I'm guessing I'm like most listeners, I tune in for short chunks...and don't spend an entire day listening and counting errors/awkward moments. KCBS does a good job.
ReplyDeleteIt’s not that complicated. Lieberman hates everyone.
Delete*Hey everyone, you're damn right: what a great *Hey everyone, you're damn right: what a great terrestrial listen: Bloomberg 960 with nonstop news, local traffic/sports and commentary --and NO kars4kids bullshit and commercials onslaught!
DeleteHE DOES NOT HATE EVERYONE. This new post from him proves that. Bloomberg is my new preset news station. Calm, interesting, professional with traffic and weather. Amazing all around with no issues. I have been listening for quite awhile now and have never heard ONE mistake. Can't believe it but it is true. All the other stations should listen in to see how it is done. Thanks Rich for the heads-up on it. Small reach but if you can get it, it is fun.
Listening too. Pleasantly surprised.
DeleteI have a car radio that scans the dial and you can't set it by hand so I cannot get Bloomberg 960 because the signal is too weak.
DeleteThe content is quite business-specific. You are not getting fluffy stories, or sound effects, and if you are looking for that you will be kind of disappointed. But they do have local reporters which surprised me being that the station is based in New York. I am a casual listener too. They do do a lot of national interviews with big people, not so much local.
Delete@10:05 AM KCBS "short chunks" or long chunks its not the quality station it use to be.
ReplyDeleteRebecca Corral still missing from KCBS.
Vern Glenn. I click to another channel when he's on. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteThe George Costanza of sports reporting.
DeleteVern Glenn thinks he is the reincarnation of a former KRON sports anchor and KNBR talk show host. Glenn is awful and unlistenable. He is full of himself.
DeleteKPIX management is giving its viewers the finger if they promote Glenn. Andrea Nakano is sooooo much better than Glenn.
Ryan Yamamoto is FUBAR. Vern Glenn is a clusterfuck.
someone is on assignment for 2 days, not needed in the booth, apparently.
ReplyDeleteThe big problem with KCBS is coverage. It used to be a breaking news station. Now it's trying to imitate KQED with countless stories about nonprofits that push political causes. It's like another Jeffrson Award winner every minute. Boring. On Wednesday there was a massive apartment house fire in Mountain View that killed one guy, injured five and displaced dozens more. Smoke could be seen up and down the peninsula. Not a word on KCBS. That used to be the kind of story KCBS would break and cover with updates throughout the day.
ReplyDeleteKCBS is all about the virus and climate change. Just recycling the same old stories over and over.
DeleteOne soft feature after another. If a jetliner crashed at SFO, they'd break into the story to tell us about an LBGTQ nonprofit that helps frogs find homes. I don't understand why they have so many features and almost no hard news.
DeleteLiz Cook is worthless and never should have been given the job that she has. Vern Glenn is most irritating and at best second rate.....my God this market has horrible
ReplyDeleteIn LA and just tuned to KNX, KCBS' sister station here, and what a difference. No dead air. Professional announcers. First-class broadcast. No time for amateurs. And then at the KCBS School of Broadcasting, we get Lisa Chan, the moron woman from KCSM on Saturdays and dead air and sloppiness. I'll bet WCBS in New York is in KNX's ball park.
ReplyDeleteThe standard is much higher in Hollywood. KNX is not run like a Montessori preschool.
DeleteKNX is run by Julie Chin, Former KGO Assistant New Director from the 900 Front Street era.
DeleteCongrats on Robin Winston on her success in LA. Well deserved. If KRON moves Liviakis off the anchor desk I be also furious. Yea she may studder a bit reading the news but she is indeed beautiful “eye candy” to watch. Just keep Liviakis where she is...
ReplyDeleteHow does that Reggie Aqui joke go? Knock Knock.
ReplyDelete(And that's it, as no one is there.)
And as for Sara D, lighten up. She's got a disorder and you don't want people to start screaming "Discriminations!" She suffers from MSAEDSCCFS* Syndrome. There is an OTC cure, available at most drug stores.**
*Must Stop At Every Department Store Cosmetics Counter For Samples
** Makeup Remover Pads
Wow that's brilliant, you must have spent all morning and part of last night coming up with that one.
DeleteI don't care if you took a month to come up with that Knock knock joke It was hilarious...
DeleteHackney has this ability to ooze condescension that is off-putting; it leaks out at odd times, like a snarky response to a innocuous comment from a colleague during a toss-over or a attempted one up after an aside. I can't be the only person that notices it.
ReplyDeleteHe sure seems intelligent and well-spoken, but rather than use these abilities like a cudgel, a few measures of self deprecation and some gentle collegiality would humanize him a bit and tone down the haughtiness. You'll still be you, Brian, just a little more likeable!
Well-put.
DeleteNo, he should stay the way he naturally is, which verges on George Sanders, who was great fun.
DeleteI'm so glad to see Reggie Aqui back on the air. He is a good morning anchor that I enjoy watching. I only wish he would shave that stubble he's trying to grow and also wear a tie while at the anchor desk.
ReplyDeleteMark Ibanez to KPIX, Dennis O'Donnell to KTVU, Vern Glenn to KNTV, Gary Radnich to KGO
ReplyDeleteIbanez, O'Donnell, and Radnich are done. And Glenn ain't goin' anywhere.
ReplyDeleteI am still at a loss as to why anyone watches local news anymore. I don't get it. I don't watch and know what is going on around me. I am curious to know what it would take to, as you put it Rich, shake things up at KPIX or any station, to make it better and get people like me to watch.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 8:25 PM : Are you paying attention AT ALL? None of that is happening.
ReplyDeleteThe donkey is terrible with that wig and heavy make up. She looks so out of place and uncomfortable when they are seated on the couch.
ReplyDeleteKPIX needs someone better than Charlie Walter, he is drier than a desert.
