Ashley is KGO's (ABC7) vital cog; the face of Circle7 and their lead anchor at all times--5, 6, 11 PM (sometimes 4) and it would be pragmatic for management to re-up Ashley--even if he's still under his old deal and quite content to play ball under the present arrangement.
Forget about building a better Bay Area--without Ashley, you might as well build a better news foundation.*The KCBS crud extended (again) to Monday morning.
*The banal and benign Jason Brooks and ice queen, Melissa Culross, had to cut short a live interview with a local podcast host when she (podcast host), couldn't hear both anchors. Worse, the host was in studio! I'm not going to hold back laughter, go ahead and giggle.
There were benefits to the glitch. The artificial and robotic nothing burger, Brooks, who is so dense he has to have sports tosses written for him, was immediately off air. Brooks couldn't ad-lib his way out of a paper bag. Culross has ZERO personality and no chemistry with Brooks--another pop-up KCBS morning anchor team and about as invigorating as a Union City strip mall.
THERE IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY at KCBS--which is why the technical crap still exists and why everyone is leaving in droves. How does this continue; why doesn't anyone speak up?
"They fear for their jobs. They don't want to lose their liveihood. If they bring up all the shit going on here, they might as well go packing," a KCBS Insider tells me.
Some people still care about the KCBS call letters. They still remember the legacy that was once KCBS. Now? A rotting corpse has more meaning.
*The TRUTH about BOTH all-sports radio outlets here: they both suck.
KNBR, what a sad and pathetic hodgepodge of mediocre bread crumbs disguised as air talent. And 95.7 FM, The Game? A cesspool of uber-schmucks with no talent led by a crummy marketing yutz with all the genius of a 1979 Hustler magazine foung tattered in a Fresno Shell station.*THE BEST Baseball broadcasters in the country: the NY Mets triple play magic of Ron Darling, Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez.
They not only have intellect and possess a wicked sense of humor, they are knowledgable and informative. They bring it on every telecast.
They don't BS you with false narratives; they will inform you their wherabouts and not invade your senses with "on assignment" bullshit; oh, and as loyal and passionate about their beloved Mets, they will NEVER wear a baseball cap inside the broadcast booth.Welcome to the Bay Area, NY Mets and SNY.
They better not give the prime time spot to Reggie Aqui when Dan Ashley quits, I will not watch Reggie if he is on prime time.
ReplyDeleteVery true, but do they take games off because they’re on “assignment?”
ReplyDeleteThat “Building a Better Bay Area” thing is starting to stink.
ReplyDeleteit's just a news slogan, no more offensive than other. think of others over the years...''where the news comes first" a complete lie, since all the newcasts come on the air at the same time.
DeleteStarting?
DeleteWhen did it not?
I have been a New York hater since I was a youngster as far back as the 40s. However, it was the finest sports broadcasting trio of Cohen, Hernandez and Darling who hooked me some 15+ years ago. I became a Mets fan because of them and now I watch more Mets' games that any other team including the Giants and it's simply because of the on-air talent. I am not looking forward this week's series with the Giants because I much prefer the New Yorkers and they'll be blacked out. Ultimate joy for me would be for Cohen, Hernandez and Darling win the Ford C. Frick Hall of Fame award as one, they all deserve it as a team.
ReplyDeleteYes, the Mets crew exudes professionalism. Not like the Homer Gomers who work for the Giants. But the media here think everything out of 24 Willie Mays Plaza is sacred. These are the same folks who tried to con the local media into starting a Baseball Hall of Fame campaign for Krukow and Kuiper that went over like a lead balloon. Seriously? Grab some pine, meat and hit it high and deep and outta here!
ReplyDeleteGiants broadcasters are as good as Mets homers, both regions are lucky to have great announcer teams. And nobody cares Jon Miller wears a cap except you. Miller is in the hall of Fame, with or without a hat. Get over it
ReplyDeleteLieberman should seek psychological help for his “on assignment” insanity…
ReplyDeleteSomeday the Bay Area will have a sports talk radio station again. We sure as hell used to. Back in the heady days of Pete Franklin, Ralph Barbieri and Gary Radnich in their prime . . . they took calls, talked sports. Now it's song parodies and soundboards and beer and endless pop culture references. Sigh . . .
ReplyDeleteIt's New York - a much more polished and sophisticated city than San Francisco could ever hope to be. Don't forget - this is still California. The armpit of humanity.
ReplyDeleteArmpit of humanity? I beg to differ there. Many states follow California. We're trend setters out here. Just look at how covid was handled in California compared to the rest of the country at the start of the pandemic. I bet you didn't think California was the armpit of humanity then.
DeleteBeyond the Hudson, there is nuthin....cept SF
DeleteThis is off the subject, but am very excited in my desk drawer found yet another list of John Rothmans favorite VIPs.. these are people John claims to have interviewed and/or personally knows or is related to
ReplyDeleteMort Sahl, Shecky Greene,Bob Dylan, Hary Reasoner,Burt Ward,Jack Larson,Les Tremayne,Harry Hooper,Sigmund Freund,Alf Landon, David Soul,Patty Shepard,Totie Fields,Annete Haven Mr Goodwrench,McGruff,Deloris Deluxe,Tess Trueheart and the entire San Francisco PD
Since money drives everything, why do advertisers stay besides Kars for Kids and Moskowitz? All others should bail. Rich,do you know why they don't leave? Seems like that would have to make corporate do something?
ReplyDeleteMoskowitz pays for his own spots and time, unless he's doing a trade-out for KNBR execs who have tax issues.
DeleteKrukow and Kuiper are awesome STFU.
ReplyDeleteHey @601: Go hug your Panda doll which has your odorous drool from garlic fries and watch the 2014 World Series highlights again and again because that's as close as your precious baseball team will get to the World Series this year.
DeleteThey're both washed up has-beens. They’ve had a good run but it's time for them to go. the broadcast landscape has evolved and they haven't evolved with it. Adios amigos, don't let the doors hit ya where there good lord split ya.
Delete@4:07- That's blasphemous what you said about Kruk and Kuip. Yeah, Kruk and Kuip are getting older and are slowing down some and not able to do as many games, but they are still sharp and are very informative. Why do you feel they haven't evolved?
DeleteThe Giants are going to have big shoes to fill when Kruk and Kuip retire.
So why doesn't KTVU or KPIX simply hire Ashley away to solve some of their aimless anchor issues? Such an action could also whip their own wanna bees into place by putting them on notice that they can be replaced. Could be a very Foxy approach!
ReplyDelete"So why doesn't KTVU or KPIX simply hire Ashley away to solve some of their aimless anchor issues?"
DeleteMoney.
Because neither one of them are Building a Better Bay Area!!!
Delete"Worse, the host was in studio!"
ReplyDeleteWow. That's beyond embarrassing.
The Giants broadcasters which used to be some of the best are terrible now
ReplyDeleteProbably cost them a pretty penny, but it would be worth it for them for sure. KGO won't want to lose him I'll bet.
ReplyDeleteKeith Hernandez??? He spit a Luigi on Kramer AND Newman!!!

""They fear for their jobs. They don't want to lose their liveihood. If they bring up all the shit going on here, they might as well go packing."
ReplyDeleteThey are smart for keeping quiet. TV jobs are hard to come by today--especially in Top-10 markets. Why risk losing your job and having to move away from the Bay Area? I'm one of those who just puts my nose to the grindstone--the hell with everyone else. I just, as Bill Belichick likes to say, "Do my job." And as that famous 21st century philosopher Blige (Mary J) opined in her terrific song "Family Affair":
"No more drama in your life. Work real hard to make a dime--If you got beef, your problem, not mine."
