Dead Air Monday Hits KCBS (Again) --Anchors Clueless

Dear Lord, what a complete MESS!

FIRST, KCBS, at 4: 58 AM, DEAD AIR for a good minute--right before the CBS hourly news--not helping matters, anchor mutt, Peter Finch, who couldn't ad-lib his way out of a paper bag, sounded incapable of saying there were some issues (duh!) and just didn't know what the hell to do.

The result was a bizarre toss to CBS.

Oh, BUT WAIT!, threre's more!

Shortly after the news, more DEAD AIR as clueless anchor, Holly Quan tossed to traffic anchor, Kim Wonderley, who was, nowhere to be found resulting in more DEAD AIR!

Meanwhile, Quan, also incapable of ad-libbing, was left by herself to mumble, "...just some (Monday) gremlins, I guess..." as co-anchor, utterly awful, Jason Brooks, was asleep at the wheel. What else is new.

Just another day at the office for KCBS and its usual plethora of technical glitches which is so common now it's almost expected. Compounding the mess are anchors who are simply inadequate and obviously incapable of cleaning up this mess and what a mess it is and what an embarrassment!

  1. CBS hourly news is always on point and then it gets turned over to the KCBS preschool. It's crazy how this station is still on the air. On top of that they call this station the bay area news leader. NOT!

    1. KCBS is "the bay area news leader" because it's the ONLY local bay area all-news station.....

    2. And that's a sad statement. Right up there with KNBR calling itself "THE Sports Leader." The only "competition" they have is 95.7 No Game. Thank God for satellite radio!

  2. Wait a minute! Lisa Chan wasn't working today? The champion of the low audio levels and dead air between segments?

Kim the Wonder Dog was busy recording another commercial. That's why she wasn't around.

Perhaps KCBS should hire broadcast students from KCSM or SF State. They'd know how to avoid dead air, not to mention they're cheap. Right up KCBS' alley.

  5. Rich, love your site. Must read, as always. Yesterday morning I was listening to KCBS and the anchor stated Noe Valley as "No Valley" instead of "NOH-ee." In the same breadth, he mentioned Willie Stargell Drive (after the great Pirate) as Willie Stargal Drive. Maybe I'm getting old, but I instantly lose credibility for anchors--and I'm seeing it on broadcast outlets as well--when they name cities, even countries, incorrectly. Can't they take a moment to ensure they have the correct pronunciation? C'mon people. Keep doing what you're doing Rick and we'll keep reading!

    1. This blog post isn't about Christine Craft. I don't see Christine's name mentioned anywhere in the post, nor in any comments, and she's not one of the commenters. You're just being a jerk with a grudge, so crawl back under your rock and die.

  8. Speaking of mumbling, I'm sure Dave Fowkes is a nice guy, but I don't think he should be doing traffic reports. He mumbles and always fades when he talks. I have an extremely hard time hearing what he is saying. Wish they'd bring back Ron Cervi !
